My personal headcanons for both Chara and Frisk are as followed; Frisk was just a curious child, climbing Mount. Ebott to see how people would disappear. Frisk doesn't have any close family, and lives in an orphanage. They're happy with their life, but they would like more of an adventurous one. They then head to Mount. Ebott. Chara, on the other hand, lived in an abusive household, where they were continuously abused. Other relatives and "friends" knew about the abuse, but did nothing. This fueled Chara's hatred of humans. Chara went to Mount Ebott to commit suicide, but they tripped into the Underground before they could actually jump, leading them into the underground.

I thought Chara was trying to commit suicide by falling into Mt. Ebott, but some yellow flowers broke their fall. And... as for Frisk... I think they just wanted to go on an adventure, but didn't know what they were truly getting themselves into. The reason I think that is because that is the main reason that most people played Undertale for the first time. They just wanted to play a game, but just found more than the average person would've expected from a random RPG they bought on Steam... or a random fairy tale about monsters being sealed away in a mountain.

Maybe they (and Chara too) jumped down not because they wanted to specifically commit suicide, but because they wanted to go away and disappear. Either just because they knew that humans who climbed on the mountain disappeared or because they had that the myth that monsters where sealed underground, they probably both wanted to disappear from humanity and explore, if there was actually anything to explore. I do think that they both could be depressed in the point of suicide, but decided to give themeselves a chance instead of completely ending it all.

Because a 10-12 year old could throw a ball from the bottom of a mountain, somehow get it to land in a hole that’s on the top of the mountain and for some reason, climb the mountain just for a stupid ball, and then be stupid enough to jump down the hole. To be honest though, that would be nicer to think about rather than the darker theories about why frisk fell down the mountain... those make the most sense to me though. Believe what you want too

A theory once popped into my head (though it has no real evidence) that the entire story of Undertale is also no more than a work of fiction within its own world - the fallen "child" is actually an adult or teenager that went to the mountain looking to end themselves for reasons which I still cannot explain. However, while they were looking over the ledge, they began to wonder what might happen if they survived their fall. Not wanting to think about the excruciating pain, they imagined a flower bed to catch them. At first, the dark thoughts seemed to be taking their imagination over when a deadly creature appears, proclaiming that, "In this world, it's kill or be killed." Yet, still, they did not want to give in just yet. So they imagined a source of light in the darkness - Toriel's attack. They continued to imagine scenario after scenario, continually willing themselves on through every trial, becoming more and more determined to keep going as time went on. And finally, they made it to the end of the journey within their head. And realizing that there was more to the world than just the principal of "kill or be killed," they decided to return home and share their story with others.

Yeah, it gets a bit complex though... Frisk isn't the one asking, it's us players. So we can't be sure 100% that Frisk wants to go back to the surface.

Yes, but they also consider the option to stay with Toriel in the True Pacifist ending, which isn’t something a child who knew they had loving parents waiting or looking for them would do. So there is a place Frisk calls “home,” but doesn't have any real attachment to other than they probably have nowhere else to go.

My theory is that reasons all the children fell down is that the reason they fell is their trait. bravery was brave enough to climb the mountain but fell, Justice wanted to justify where the missing people went (the other 5) and Chara and Frisk was determined to climb that mountain. I can think of the other 4 I didn't mention.

it's kind of like theory two. You just missed a few details. just read this: You know how flowey can manipulate time and stop and start and go back through timelines? yeah, and he got bored and tired to helping people over a great amount of timelines. Which resulted in flowey going insane and massacring monsters. He was tired and knew whenever he wanted, he could reset the timeline and nobody will remember what happened. And we know that the player (supposedly frisk) can also manipulate time, quite similar to flowey. Still with me? Here we go. Frisk got tired after doing everything they could in the overworld. Frisk got bored of everything and everyone since frisk had done literally everything to do. And then legend says that those who climb mount ebbott never return. Having the power of time manipulation, Frisk obviously decides what to do next. You can probably guess. Frisk decides to explore what kills people in mount ebbott, becuase she can always go back. And that's undertale. Curiousity.

I've always interpreted Chara as someone who actually did trip and fall down, and was saved by Asriel. The reason Chara went up there in the first place was out of the thought that they might be a hero if they were to solve the mystery of Mt. Ebott. I interpreted Frisk's story as something completely different though. Frisk was an orphan who was adopted by an abusive family. Frisk did not "fall" into the underground. They purposely jumped in attempting to end their lives. They thought they had nothing to live for and jumped in hoping to end it, and potentially be with their real family. Again, this is how I've always interpreted it. We won't know what the real story is until Toby confirms or denies it, if he ever does.

201X is probably like saying a year followed by AD or BC, 201 after X where X is the year of the barrier forming, this means it was around the 11th century the monsters had cameras back then because just like they have transforming robots, mech suits, dimension boxes, lasers force fields etc, they put a lot of work into science.

Fatcatmeow Read my above comment, Monsters have magic to naturally make attacks like the laser, solid objects like their bodies from magic could teach them how to make force fields and a devotion to destroying the barrier would inspire multiverse research which would provide the dimension boxes and stuff, it is the modern era based on tech, buildings and stuff on the surface, monsters just love science and didn't have a religious dark ages to slow them down.

Curiosity is probably the ultimate driver for anything involving choice except for morality, so it would make sense that it's the reason Frisk went to Mt. Ebott to begin with. After all, Flowey did terrible things by choice out of curiosity. "What would this person say if I gave them this? What would they do if I said this to them? Once you know the answer, that's it. That's all they are. It all started because I was curious. Curious what would happen if I killed them. "I don't like this," I told myself. "I'm just doing this because I HAVE to know what happens." Ha ha ha... What an excuse! ... Nowadays, even that's grown tiring. You understand, . I've done everything this world has to offer. I've read every book. I've burned every book. I've won every game. I've lost every game. I've appeased everyone. I've killed everyone. Sets of numbers... Lines of dialog... I've seen them all." Curiosity drove him until he knew everything everyone had to offer him, then he became bored and became murderous. I feel like if it was cannon, the first run to ever exist was neutral, Frisk being afraid enough to kill in self defense. Then a reset happens, and they go out of their way to save everyone. After resetting numerous times, and seeing every end result, trying different responses out of curiosity, they decide to kill everyone, thus, genocide. We, the player, and ultimately frisk, are most akin to Flowey than any monster in the Underground. Because unlike Papyrus, with his happy-go-lucky attitude and high morality. Unlike Undyne, who wants only the best and to protect those she loves. Unlike Alphys, who struggles with who she really is. Unlike Sans, who is chill and laid-back 90% of the time. Unlike Asgore, or Toriel, who only want to help those under their care... Flowey is all about that tug in the mind- that luring whisper in the back of your brain that everyone has. That bad devil on your shoulder. The one tick that says "Screw it", curiosity is the driver of going from friendly to genocidal in the game. (Dang, I reaaaally got off topic XD)

Cesar Melendez - W. D Gaster was a royal scientist that help engineer the "Core" whilst paving the technical way for monsters to live comfortable under the mountain. That's it. After his "fallen down", you can say that he one with the planet, now; or, he was Pioneer for monster kind, or, whatever you want. As far as the storyline of Undertale, Gaster is irrelevant. So any questions about him is meh, at best. Grillby isn't the only monster that looks like fire. You see several of them in the core. And, like all monsters there, they are magical. You still wonder why Grillby doesn't set his bar on fire? Seen your answer in Magic.

There's an option in the ruins, where if you tell the frog that the yellow names are bad, they will tell all the monsters to use the pink names from last year, and while investigating the trash in waterfall, you will find piles of Yellow names. :)

Maybe Frisk was reading the story in the beginning in a diary (beacause of the date that appears) or in a book idk, and after reading it they go full on curious mode since theyre a child and wants to take a look but fall down or they just jumped down not knowing how deep the hole was and this Undertale begins. In my personal idea, I believe that Frisk is an orphan and actually almost had the same thoughts as Chara, but meeting those monsters and learning from them changed her way of thinking and loved them as a family she always wanted. I also consider Frisk a girl. But that's just my speculation which is what Undertale gives us the freedom to think about Frisk.

I think Frisk had a bad home life, and so they ran away. Trying to get away from their family. Only to slip/trip into the hole or even try and kill themself. This could really explain the routes. Neutral going for the ones who frighten them the most, Pacifist which is where they see kindness within the frightened monsters and gains a family or two. Then Genocide, where they are either fearful or panic when they see the monsters. Perhaps thinking of them as their own family at home, the ones who tried to hurt them in the past.
