There are so many great reasons to move to Ireland. Why I moved to Dublin is a bit of a long story. From study abroad, to Irish Working Holiday Visas, to live music and my hostel tour (the Foreign Voices Travelers Tour), this video covers it all. If you're wondering, "Why move to Ireland?" I hope you now at least understand why I did! I feel extremely lucky to be living in Ireland.
The music in this video is my song 'Foreign Voice,' which you can listen to on Spotify: open.spotify.c...

Claire, I’m green with envy! I came across the pond long ago in 1993 from the US, and after a lot of trouble with work visas and temporary jobs, I finally managed to settle in the UK and make a very pleasant life for myself and thought I would stay there forever. Then came Brexit in 2016, and that made me reevaluate my situation. I took UK citizenship decades ago, but I was very bitter about the decision to pull out for a number of reasons. So I moved to Holland to study psychology, but discovered if I ever wanted to take Dutch citizenship I would have to give up my British citizenship, which I really didn’t want to do. And I already had a vague idea that free movement between the UK and Ireland might allow me to settle here, so checked into that further and moved last November. I have been so pleased since I arrived. The Irish are such a kind welcoming people. It really worked out much better than I had expected. When I can apply for Irish citizenship you may be sure I will be. By the way, you realise that now that you hold Irish citizenship you could establish residency easily in Berlin if you chose to.

In terms of living (on a permanent basis), I'd have to say Copenhagen, and Geneva are my favourites; Dublin, and New York are nice, too, but I wouldn't like to live there more than on a temporary basis (for more than a year, at the most).

@@ClaireHawkins Hi, Claire, kind thanks for the reply!! Yeah, to me, the two most important reasons that I'd like to live (the most/on a permanent basis) in Copenhagen, or Geneva (or their surrounding metro areas), are (1) cultural, in nature (in fact, the cultural allure surrounding these cities is an integral part of their character, and the secret to their charm); and (2) both, Copenhagen, and Geneva are among the cities all the way at the top in terms of the quality of life/standards of living (accordingly, they are, also, among the cities all the way at the top in terms of the costs of living)!! In terms of the costs of living, Copenhagen, and Geneva are, actually, in the same league of cities with Dublin, and New York (e.g. salaries/wages of at least DKK(Danish Kroner)20 000/month, CHF(Swiss Francs)4000/month, €4000/month, and $4000/month are the bare minimum salaries/wages for anyone to be able to survive on their own, i.e. no one to share the costs of living with, and/or no social welfare assistance, in the cities of Copenhagen, Geneva, Dublin, and New York, respectively). One important reason that the costs of living in Denmark, and Switzerland are so astronomically high, is that the general salaries/wages in these countries are also (equitably) very high (in Denmark, the deals on working-class salaries/wages, negotiated by the Trade Unions Federation, guarantee that, virtually, all the working-class salaries/wages vary from ~DKK15 000/month, at the least, to as much as ~DKK30 000/month; while middle-class salaries/wages vary between DKK30 000/month and ~DKK40 000/month. In Switzerland, the trade unions are not as powerful as they are in Denmark, but, still, the working-class salaries/wages have quite a wide range, from as low as ~CHF3000/month, to as high as ~CHF6000/month; also, in Switzerland, just like in Denmark, the middle-class professions are highly regulated, to ensure all-around high quality/standards, and the salaries/wages accompanying those professions, while high, of between CHF6000/month and ~CHF8000/month, reflect those tight regulations). The reason for emphasizing these details about salaries/wages in Denmark, and Switzerland is that, while they (the salaries/wages) have a great impact on the costs of living there (in Denmark/Switzerland), in Ireland, and the United States, the costs of living are, largely, dictated by supply-side economics, hence the (perpetually) ongoing housing crisis in Ireland, or the homelessness-causing practices of gentrification zoning in the United States. I didn't mean/start out with the intention to make this reply a long read; I just felt like expanding a little more on my thoughts from my previous/original comment!! Hope you'd enjoy.
