As a Bombayite, I'll explain the real reason. The city's downtown is far more developed than any other city in the country and than the rest of Bombay. The difference is stark. You can live in Navi Mumbai, it's also developed, but no. People don't want to - because the downtown of Mumbai is so special and different. In other cities, it doesn't make a difference where you live, the cities are like collections of neighborhoods, kya farak padta hai where you live in the city it's roughly equal. But Bombay has a special and urban downtown the kind you just don't find anywhere. So people die to live there or close to there. The closer you live to downtown Mumbai, the more expensive it is.

Same case with delhi
@milaanvigraham8664
@milaanvigraham8664 Жыл бұрын
@@axel3895 I hardly think so, what is Delhi's downtown? People don't even mind living in posh parts of Gurgaon. Rates are high in the lutyens area, otherwise they are the exact same throughout South Delhi (a collection of neighborhoods sprawling over an area around 50% the whole of Mumbai) - I mean there may be slightly different from place to place in South Delhi but there's no pattern. Nothing really distinguishes "downtown Delhi" - what does? You find auto rickshaws throughout the city for example. Mumbai's city district is instantly identifiable over the rest of the city, for having no rickshaws but iconic black and yellow taxis, the maidans, roads with pavements as wide as the road, no highways (mostly) but smooth at grade roads... it is iconic and instantly identifiable. Delhi you find Heritage monuments everywhere, the neighborhoods look the same across several distances etc
@nandhakumarsoman7813

You have written a long paragraph but still I couldn't get your point. What is so special. I kept reading to find that out.
@milaanvigraham8664
@milaanvigraham8664 Жыл бұрын
@@nandhakumarsoman7813 I can explain. I don't even live in downtown Bombay, I live in the western suburbs, a beautiful neighborhood nonetheless. The city district of Bombay is different in that, since it is the tip of a Peninsula, it is surrounded by seafacing promenades, has no random transit vehicles - no huge trucks and dumpsters (less, at least), does not allow rickshaws and has only kaali peeli taxis. Being an old money old city, is the only "old part" of any Indian city that is actually rich and well maintained and not poor. It has the oldest institutions in the country that still dominate - Calcutta might have old institutions but they are decrepit. It has several double decker red buses that you don't see elsewhere in Mumbai commonly. It has wide pavements throughout, and you don't find ugly pillars on the road anywhere, it's very much like new York - just roads without the need for flyovers or elevated trains. Mostly at least. Furthermore, every plot is used up as a building or a ground that touches right up to the road - you feel like you're in a "City" unlike other Indian cities where you find lot of properties but you don't find buildings and things coming right up to the road. You have entire streets with Victorian Gothic and Art Deco buildings lined along each other. It is the only part in Mumbai where people follow traffic rules no matter what - in worli seaface vehicles notoriously stop at one signal at a zebra crossing that was created just for pedestrians to cross, it's not even a traffic junction - they stop even if there is no one to cross the road. It's insane to see. There is a sense of discipline, importance, old age and urban culture in South Mumbai that you don't see elsewhere in the country.
