Show runner Miguel Sapochnik reportedly left House of the Dragon as showrunner back in August 2022. This came as a shock with no real reason being attributed for his departure, until now.
It has been reported that Sapochnik left House of the Dragon because HBO would not make his wife a producer on the second season.

Did you know there's no such thing as a professional producer? All kinds of people get producer credits, especially those who do nothing but finance movies and actors whose managers negotiate producer credits so they could get more money even though they don't do anything other than act. Producer credits are a bargaining thing a lot of times. It's not a question of whether she has experience but what she was going to do as producer. If it was only so that she and her husband made more money off the show then they were right to not give it to her. But we don't have the full story here. If she had been contributing ideas to her husband that he used on the show then asking for producer credit isn't that out of line.

@@ajae...nepotism in general should be frowned upon. It’s basically “hey give my wife this job in the show or I make a big fuss”. Nobody wants to work with that kind of drama

@@rayray6490 Regardless of how she got the job there are no real requirements for it, so her lack of experience isn't a factor. I'm choosing to frown upon blaming her for things we don't know she did rather than nepotism in one of the historically nepotistic industries in the world. It's entirely possible that she gave him some of the best ideas he used on the show. Wives of powerful men are rarely credited for the work they contributed to their husband's success. That could be labled a team effort as much as it could be called nepotism

@@ajae...but you’re also assuming she’s actually useful in a production role. It’s also entirely possible she’s contributed none of those things you described. That’s why nepotism should be frowned upon in any industry, you’re taking a lot of risk and costs for the unknown. Just because Hollywood is notorious for nepotism, it doesn’t mean the vicious cycle should continue. People should get their position based on true merit, talent and experience. I’m not blaming her per se since we know almost nothing about her but the fact that her husband has to push this so hard on HBO and later left because of it shows so many red flags about this couple

I think it’s actually going to get better. Sapochnik lost touch w/ reality there for a bit, in his bid to make his wife a producer. Not even close to the credentials necessary for a show of this level & investment. Methinks he got a bit too big for his britches. I think this spinoff actually needs Alan Taylor. We need more emotional investment in the characters. It’s hard to get invested in mostly two -dimensional characters bc not enough time is spent on that aspect, like it was in GoT. It’s not like we all have ADD & can’t stay interested unless there’s a bunch of action in each episode. I became invested in every character & secondary character in GoT, despite how D&D screwed stuff up in the latter seasons. That’s what’s missing in HoT-D

I was surprised that Miguel Sapochnik accepted the Golden Globe award for HOTD (Best Drama) after he parted ways with HBO.
@SelphieTheNutter
@SelphieTheNutter Жыл бұрын
I think that is his wife was a producer on HotD HBO would already be giving her credit. On that note I think it is completely unfair of Miguel to use his position to get his wife a job as a producer. GoT was one of the most popular TV series of its time. It's popularity led to the creation of HotD. There are so many people who would love to be involved in the creation of HotD. Some with more experience than Miguel's wife. Which is why i dont blame HBO one bit for refusing to let Miguel bully them into giving his wife a sympathy job as a producer. To use his position as a show runner as leverage over HBO to get his wife a job is very low. Threatening to leave if his wife isn't given a job is low. Be bloody greatful she was given a job as a actress. True it was a minor role but it was still a bigger role than the extras got, all they got to be was people in the background, their characters don't even have names. Miguel should be greatful his wife was given a named role in the show. To try to bully HBO with threats of him leaving if he didn't get his way is appalling and I commend HBO for trying to settle the dispute peacefully while refusing to let Miguel abuse his position as showrunner.

I mean to be fair, HBO was justified to do that, after all such a request is idiotic given that his wife has no history of writing or production anything so it’s ridiculous she’s be credited with season 1 despite having a VERY minor background role. They both got some audacity I’ll say that… For Miguel’s case this a stupidly petty reason to leave a production. Like whiny, spoiled child level of petty.

I'm honestly glad HBO doesn't give in to the show runner's stupid demands like they did with D&D. Also, isn't Ryan Conell the one who made Daemon killed his wife? And you still think he is a capable writer?! C'mon...😂
@TemariNaraannaschatz
@TemariNaraannaschatz 6 ай бұрын
Ryan Condal said in inside the episode that the book scene obviously ment that Daemon did it (killing Rhae), which makes no sense due to multiple reasons. 1. Daemon was in the stepstones fighting at war during the time 2. If for whatever reason he would have personally gone there he would have been seen 3. Rhae didn't die right away she was alive for 9 more days during which she was partially awake and would have told people if Daemon killed her 4. Even if he sent someone to do it he would have had the money for someone to finish the job and not let her linger aound to tell people for 9 days. Like that is a really stupid thing to say, because it just isn't canon and even in F&B where so many rumours are going around no one questions Daemon because it's physically impossible for him to kill her.

@@browniebear There are cases in which I think they did a decent job, but this was not one of them. And that it's not canon is quiet obvious if you look at the character ages, they are all over the place, you can say a lot about the measters but they did not screw up everyones age. The show is basically one version of how things might have turned out, but that's it.

Plus hes most likely ruined his entire career because who would want to work with someone who would jeopardise a project for personal bias and nothing to back themselves up with. Like fair enough if his wife produced before but never producing before and then being dropped onto what is one of HBO's biggest project. You gotta be nutts to think they'd go for that and that they would risk that for a showrunners hissy fit when they have plenty of qualified candidates to replace you. Its idoitic and unprofessional
