Excellent explanation. Too many people were expecting a straight line down when that's usually not how these inflation cycles work. Most of the time there's a break in the overall economy with sustained decline in growth (a recession) before inflation settles down.

Dion, Love your analysis. Tony Seba says as people move away from oil and use Electric Vehicles, Oil Demand will drop. But there will be a trend towards Oil to increase price once in about 5 years. How is the Fed going adjust their models? Maybe this is more a question when demand drops by 50%.

Dion, unfortunately inflation is here to stay. I'm more than convinced about that. I just went to the grocery store to buy a stick of deodorant and it cost me $11 to buy it. That's crazy to me. As for the gas prices.... well that's a different story. That's how I really measure inflation. Ps. Keep the fro alive!!!

There could be a structure inefficiency in inflation, most likely to do with supply chains breaking and having to be reset after Covid. The suppy chains relate to US and globally. Or it could be related to rates no longer rising. There must be a rate sensitive component in the CPI. As rate rose CPI came down so a rise of 0.25% will tip CPI under 2% yr over yr.

Does anyone feel fuel prices have been being manipulated to lower inflation to make everything look warm and fuzzy? I still feel inflation is much higher than has been advertised

Manipulated in the sense that we're at record-high domestic oil production in the U.S., yes. It's an open secret that is a double-edged sword, politically, for the current White House administration since it would hurt their green agenda to make a lot of noise about it. But it has been helping to recover consumer sentiment a bit lately. If gas prices come back up and stay elevated, though, it will have the opposite effect.
