I have an idea. Parries guide. In T3, it all seemed very straightforward. Most of the parries did damage, there were "chickens", okay. Somewhere around Leroy, I lost track. Autoparry this, autoparry that, then add that you have parries that guarantee some attacks and require inputs, parries that don't... I guess every character just learns its own, but maybe a neat tutorial or a tierlist would make sense. Have a good one

...2 more years, I feel like. Tekken 7 spent 1 year and a half in Japan's arcades getting tweaked over and over before it reached consoles. Then a few months before that being loc tested. Tekken 6 base also spent a while before BR version got released. What I'm saying is, this is a fine start, but we're barely out of the woods yet.

@@rqx999 I’ll allow the parry but power crushes don’t need to be doing more. Tekken is getting way too many 2D fighting game elements and it’s annoying. It’s also funny because people complained about the 2D characters then the devs work to remove a dimension of movement from the game

@@Solavation Damage isn't everything. Paul's strength was safety + high damage previously. Well, in Tekken 8 everyone has tons of safe shit that does a million damage. Yeah, getting launched by a deathfist in heat sucks, but most of the cast can do similar numbers at this point. Reina does the same kind of damage. Bryan does the same kind of damage. Claudio, Jin, King, you name them. Those who don't, like Kazuya, can compensate with highly rewarding setups that exploit frame traps, momentum, evasion, plus on block situations or a combination of those. He is also trickier to play than you'd think for a series of factors (the same move having different purposes depending on the range you do it at, the fact that you don't get an "easy" kbd due to backsway and the fact that while backsway options are good they do require you to be creative rather than mindlessly flowchart). You can play caveman Paul and just do df2 all day and think "wow, why would they buff this guy". Then you get tu Fujin and suddenly your experience will be "How the fuck do I open people up now".

@@rensmasteredarchives6796Except Bryan at least gets punished on every key move if not launched/wall splat punished. Bryan still has the worst hatchet kick/move despite the execution and lack of frames/reward his gives. Getting Paul and Bryan’s combo damage was always more difficult than the rest of the cast. Bryan just now with this patch got an improvement to part of what used to be his identity, counterhit and keep out. So many characters have a better counterhit game and over half the cast has better keep out than Bryan to include Paul. Bryan still can’t get in on players when they turtle with life leads or maintain offense…Paul and Kaz can on top of the much better mix up moves and their damage! Bryan’s ONE buff in how 1,2,1 now reacts on ch is very welcomed. The taunt and everything else are things that should’ve been/were once normal. Only intermediate and above Bryan’s will notice any of his positive changes.

Quick note on why they removed Bryan taunt scaling is because heat dash at the wall used to give +18 which was a guaranteed taunt for Bryan. Now that it doesn't anymore they felt that the scaling wasn't necessary anymore

3:09 this is the biggest change for me holy shit. I'm ass at recording anything in this game. I also wish they let us save the actions that we recorded for example if I recorded the Speedkicks' Law drill I could just save all of my recorded actions as a preset and the next time I'm in practice mode I could just apply this preset and don't have to re record everything. I would also love the ability to be able to share/upload these presets and they would work the same as battle replays i.e just the inputs being shared and downloaded so that we could just download drills that other people have come up with and shared.

The change to Bryan's (1,2),1 behavior on counter hit is actually pretty great, imo. That used to only give really awkward, bad combos previously, but now it has the same crumple as CH 3+4 which leads to significantly better damage and wall carry. Definitely makes getting CH there much scarier than it was before.

Bryan’s changes only affect the intermediate and above Bryan players (I’m personally not complaining!), his changes and the 1,2,1 buff won’t make him any more desirable to play for folks who don’t main him already…and I like that 😎.

One side effect of the Steve fc df2 buff is that you can now launch between the hits of Alisa’s hellsweep (i16 interrupts the second hit, i17 trades)

As an Alisa main, its way to easy to beat her, all you have to do is block mid, all her attacks or mid or high. She has very telegraphed lows, really easy to beat

As a stereotypical purple dragu scrub from t7, the downwards hitbox extension for wr2 (and even df4) is more than enough to make up for no longer being able to open-whiff b4 for free :) always felt like I couldn't trust his offense with low-profilers! Much love for being the go-to for tekken content with a brain, keep it up Phi!

I’m sure someone has already pointed it out but Lee’s rising 2,3 into heat burst was like a prayer every time. They extended the range just for that. Honestly they could have nerfed lee across the board otherwise and Lee mains still would have been celebrating lol

@PhiDX I discovered the move changes has allowed Victor to have a new combo route that does 90 damage minimum no wall required! The exact combo is (any floater) df42, iai 2, df42, iai 42 (new way to spin), db11, perfumer 1+2 which leads into a guaranteed ff2. I’m trying new wall combo routes for him involving perfumer 1+2 as well

How cool I get to see this game evolve in real time. I'm glad I got to play the builds with the overpowered Azucene attacks in all. I'm actually going to miss the unique feeling of sidestep ducking and full punishing her running 3,2. And I have that be a part of the legacy and with the community was all focused on is I really enjoyable part of seeing the game advance. The tournaments have already been crazy and fun and as a legacy player of over 26 years I can immediately tell these changes are moving in the right direction to make it even more enjoyable

They made f,F+2 safe cause all the extensions are delayable. So Asuka gets more safe string mixups. It's a pretty underrated move, but now hopefully people start using it.

Yup, pretty much spot on! The game has matured a bit, and Namco has nerfed the strongest characters, and buffed the weakest, and promised not to do further changes. The worst game-gimmicks and OP mechanics have been toned down and the game feels a bit more professional and not too scrubby. Now the real grinding can begin.

46:40 hey Paul main here (2k matches, Tekken King) he is “good” because of his strong defensive moves. But to consistently pull off high level defensive play in this game is super difficult and almost exhausting. Sometimes it feels like you hold back for 10 seconds just to try your luck with his “strong” moves just to lose turn again or be power crushed. While you have many stances and transitions, people after Purple ranks know the setups and how to option select beat them. So it really felt like Paul was falling behind every character in the sense of being on your face and maintaining an offensive. So the changes to distance from heat engagers and follow ups from knockdowns are very welcome. I agree with you tho even I can’t see where that 13f launcher came from but ig we’ll see what happens :) and thanks for the video super helpful

An example of what I meant with losing turn with strong moves is, using old uf2 or f1+2. You had some +frames but you ended up so far away it was basically neutral again lol

Bryan's CH on the last hit of 1,2,1 is actually super good, the reward is so much better for landing it. Also the increased range for mach kick and d4 is hella good.

Yeah, Rip made the point in his stream on the patch notes that Nina doesn't have any really obviously messed-up moves you can point to (like e.g. Victor did with the power crush + running 2 + Expulsion) so she was less likely to eat significant nerfs. As a non-player myself, i would've said Blonde Bomber if i had to pick one such move for Nina (and maybe Wipe the Floor after seeing what Arslan was doing with it) - and whaddaya know, those were the ones that got relevant nerfs!

The 3f added recovery for both players on Jin’s zen u1 is worth mentioning I think, I found that weirdly difficult to launch for some reason and it was like the bane of my existence in the Jin mirror lol also i have to add i’m going to miss king’s old wavedash, i loved messing around with it for fun and always got hype seeing other people do it

The GEN 3 situation for Jun is definitely a solid buff. On hit you can pretty go for whatever FC mixup you want because of the threat of a counter hit WS 2.

All Reina nerfs I completely blame Anakin for I know for a fact everyone watched his video and every mirror match I fought with Reina spammed that forward forward 2 move. They basically killed it themselves. For the most part I’m not to hurt but I def think it’s not fair that my rolls are no longer considered crouching so people can just literally jab me and put me In a combo cause I rolled? Seems like they just made it more like your supposed to mix up with rolls which is kinda annoying cause I felt like the rolls were under utilized in the first place

A note, all command throws can be stepped to the right, 2 breaks cannot be stepped to the left, so if youre stepping, keep in mind on a step left have your 2 breaks ready

I play Azucena, Raven, and Victor and I’m pretty happy about all of the changes they got. Especially Victors changes. Being more of a stance/read character is makes him look and play cooler IMO

As a Hwoarang main, I am a bit sad about those nerfs. I think you could have mentioned the slight buff to his parry tracking or definitely his WS 3 buff of making the net damage standard to 22 whether the opponent is mid-air or on ground now.

Just making sur ebut heat burst is the t pose then hit move right? Heat smash is the basically super they do by expending all of their heat right? So heat smash can still kill but not the little hit that nirmally acts as a combo extender.

The hwoarang ws2 could be a bigger buff in certain matchups as it’s increased range means he’s a lot better at ducking and launching highs

To do the wave dash previously for king you had to remove the neutral from the input now it easier and I enjoy that don’t need tracking when I can

Hi Phi! Love your videos and big fan. Wanted to share this message as a thank you for covering this Patch Notes because as a newer player it is quite hard to understand all the changes. For anyone else reading this I also want to share my take on Kazuya buffs. I also am a Kazuya main. I will be honest, you are not wrong about Kazuya downplayers. Some people who play this character need to learn to play his strengths and find ways to get away from situations where he's weak. My main gripe with the character pre patch was honestly just his inconsistent combos (being slightly off axis meant you couldn't do your mid 70 damage combo options). I will admit CD1+2 sounded pretty nasty to me as well when I read the patch notes. I can imagine this being reverted and wouldn't be mad at that. In corner this will be horrible to go against I imagine. I'd hope it gets changed however it was pretty useless before buff. I think the move just needs a solid identity that isn't oppressive. A couple moves seem this way to me where they are completely useless (not even niche) to go for besides... aesthetic? Besides that, 1+4 being usable more in Heat now might also be strong. I think that's probably the strongest most underrated move. Personally, I would have taken a change for WS44 or DF44 to be neutral or slightly + on hit (it's -5 OH). FF2 unga bunga brain changes are good for overall neutral health although I think Devil Jin's FF2 shouldn't have been nerfed. The pushback was pretty good, even too good and it still is safe. Making his wavedash mixup game more oppressive seems like an odd direction to me. The universal nerf to Heat Dash wall staggers being +18 is also is a welcome nerf to Kazuya. You do have to admit though, Kazuya having an inconsistent combo game while being hard to execute was pretty trash (even Execution gods agreed that they were inconsistent). I hope every character that has these types of problems get fixes especially if they are heavy execution. This is honestly the thing I wanted more than anything besides a 112 (Flash Punch) hitbox fix. Quality of life changes with cancelling Heat consuming options are very welcome. CD44 is still pretty useless as CD41 gives better oki for 3 less damage. Many Kazuya players wanted damage buffs but personally I think the current solution of hitbox fixes are fine because now we actually have consistency and access to our high damage options. Oddly enough, 3 Electric combos do less damage than 2 Electric combos. 4 Electric combos are the hardest hitting combos leading to 102 damage if carried to wall.

Idk I just went into practice mode and heat burst seems to reset combo and tornado off of certain combos smh. 🤦🏾‍♂️ db 3 ,3,4 f12 dash heat burst resets and gives tornado lili main I can get two thirds of health off a reset now

38:50 - Lee's ws2,3 into Heat Burst frequently whiffed against some characters or after ducking certain moves, so this change is to try and make that combo more consistent.

The heat burst range buff for Lee is important because his ws23 into heat burst would whiff on certain characters and situations randomly which lead to a big drop (losing 70+ damage) and a potentially round winning combo. It's technically a bugfix but most of us just consider it a huge buff.

Just FYI, Jin's ff2 didn't just get a phantom range nerf, the tracking on it got gutted with these changes, so it was a shadow nerf not even mentioned in the patch notes.

@@riceyboi7069 I agree, the tracking did need nerfs, what I don't agree is with the range nerf because his combo utility is way worse now, you lose about +6-8 damage per combo due to the range nerf. The moves range was never a problem, as it's basically identical to Lee's ff3, but it lacked the same weakness Lee's ff3 has, which is the tracking. Any competent player is going to easily step unless you realign. I am not a Jin player, but I fight a Jin regularly and I can tell the range nerf is terrible change for combo utility now and general use now. Either way, it just means more Jins will spam d2 more, good luck to us with that I guess.

@@IzNebula honestly it's still fine, u can compensate by doing a wave dash into ff2 for combo dmg. Jin still has great wall dmg overall, and the range nerf was very rightfully implemented. I would fight other Jins and ff2 would hit when it clearly wasn't on me. The phantom range was bs, and I love that the move is fair now.

They should have pulled the trigger on the heat engager power crushes. Should be -10. The non-heat engager high power crushes can be -8 or -9.
