its more of a song to the man who had lost a girl to another man, but still longs for her, with hopes to not only win her, but win her back, with the crippling depression at the back of his mind, the devastating truth that what once was, could never happen again, leaving her a meer thought of what couldve still been and the man, a hollow shell, doomed to live the past and what couldve been only in dreams... much like a dog who lost its owner and constantly waits for him to come back. that owner was the only thing it knew, and it doesnt know how to be dependant on its own, how to get over it, how to move on. its not an empowering song, its actually quite a depressing one. the song is really good, but if this was my situation, this would actually be one of the worst songs for me to listen to, i would bawl my eyes out. but dont mind me, im just putting my 2 cents in
