Major anxiety watching this but I’m so glad you can trim them without sedation.

Thank you for the informative video. I just purchased 10 of this species. How do you determine when it is appropriate to trim their beaks?
@brendanwalsh6640 Жыл бұрын
Not when you see teeth inside their mouth but their mouth is permantly open AND they start to struggle to eat certain foods. I have 4 and 3 are fine 6 months in but one has a terrible overgrown beak I'm getting ready to trim. One must not be eating crunchy enough foods

My word those are some steady hands. No way I could do this so immediately given up on keeping them 😢

How do I know if my puffer's teeth need trimming?
@steve8520112 жыл бұрын
Just did mine, think i may have injured one of his pectoral fins cause he has it clamped tight against his side... such a stressful thing to have to do, i so hope i didnt hurt him, i was super super careful...

It’s not an easy thing to do! How’s the puffer now?
@steve8520112 жыл бұрын
@@Fishkeepingmadeeasy He is doing really well now, his fin is going again, i think it was from the eugenol, but its fluttering again, and now he can eat!!! He has been eating like an oscar and his belly is all fat and round.

Kept holding my breath I’m not looking forward to the day I have to do this. Just trying to catch my eXtremely shy guy may be to much for either one of us.
@Fishkeepingmadeeasy3 жыл бұрын
We were dreading it too! But the little guys were very calm! We’ve had to catch them a few times due to house moves and they’ve always been pretty calm! How is your puffers teeth looking?

do you have to do this

How many puffers do you think I can keep in a 150 liter tank
@Fishkeepingmadeeasy2 жыл бұрын
Probably quite a few. I would advise at least 3 but 6 would be ideal! I would have more but I can’t find anywhere locally that sells them 😅 pretty hard to find in the UK
@jackdorward47772 жыл бұрын
Can I keep them with other things like tetras apistogrammas platys and corydoras in a heavily planted tank or would that be to much bio load or not enough space for the puffer
@Fishkeepingmadeeasy2 жыл бұрын
You can keep them with other things 👍 just don’t go over board to begin with and slowly add the new additions!
@blackjaguar8072 жыл бұрын
Are they venomous
@Fishkeepingmadeeasy2 жыл бұрын
No, but I believe they are poisonous if eaten

Can you keep an amazon puffer with a pea puffer ?
@Fishkeepingmadeeasy2 жыл бұрын
I don’t see why not. As long as the tank was big enough and there were enough hiding spots. I would say the Pea Puffers could be quite aggressive towards the Amazon Puffers but the Amazon Puffers wouldn’t touch the Pea Puffers.

@@Fishkeepingmadeeasy thanks! I've got a 40gal tank with just those 2 little guys in there now so far

Do you ever see them puff up?
@Fishkeepingmadeeasy2 жыл бұрын
Yes, one time I had two breeding Geophagus who were very territorial. One of the puffers swam too close and the Geophagus grabbed it and the puffer just instantly puffed up! It looked like a golf ball. It deflated after about 10 minutes and was perfectly fine. That’s the only time in over 2 years one has puffed up!

@@Fishkeepingmadeeasy nice… did it get at least twice it’s size or just a little bigger? I just ordered 5 to add to my tank with Discus fish hopefully they will get along and do well

Oh sorry I didn’t see this video before asking my other question. This is the stuff that really keeps me away from these guys. Seems far too stressful for the benefits of keeping them so sadly I do think I will have to pass on these lads as cute as they are
@Fishkeepingmadeeasy2 жыл бұрын
I’ve only had to trim their teeth once in the 2 years and 2 months I’ve had them. But once you trim them it seems like the teeth grow back a lot quicker? I will have to trim their teeth again in the next few weeks. However, only two seem to have their teeth grow the other one seems fine so it must either bite the rock and wood
@DemDiddyDizzy2 жыл бұрын
@@Fishkeepingmadeeasy seems like you’ve had a lot of luck with their diet keeping their teeth ground down haha, good on you for thinking of the frozen cube of food thing. I think I’ll still sadly pass cause I can’t handle the thought of still having to do this regardless of how I care for them
