Learning aggressive skating in South Texas is is of course absolutely brutal in the summer. I'm very motivated to still get out there at the peak of the heat but a session goes like doing a few tricks then retreating to any shade for at least 10 minutes chugging water and being drenched in sweat. Also getting crazy farmer's tans too lol.

Aside from skateparks there are often no good places to rollerblade either. Just hills, crappy pavement, crappy roads. Some amazing exceptions too, but if you live in most rural towns, yeah good luck. The Waikato now has some amazing brand new skateparks that popped up in the last years, no idea how this happens behind the scenes but very pleased!

Growing up in San Diego(north county) near Esco was amazing. Top tier pros everywhere, skate parks, sick street spots.. it was just the best.

Don’t come to Darwin NT Australia, 3 parks, 2 bigger parks but they’re old AF and pretty rough and in need of an update, then the “newest” park has a couple of alright things going for it, but it’s soo small. Recently got to skate a newly built park in Melbourne, holy hell, it was heaven, soo smooth, great obstacles, not the best designed park but hell I appreciated it a lot.

Feel ya on the weather aspect. Growing up skating in the UK was depressing as fuck. Not even the Summer guaranteed skate sessions. Damp wet conditions for 6-7 months of the year. So happy I made the move to Australia.

My son and I skate in North Carolina USA and it has to be one of the best places ever. We have at least 10 parks within a 2 hour drive, and an indoor park 30 minutes away. It hardly ever snows in the winter and you can do pretty much any sport all year. Summers are brutally hot and humid, but you get used to it and just drink lots of water. I skateboarded in the 70's and we got run off just about every place we ever skated to the point you think they outlawed fun. Now that I am older I see the other side as one viewer commented, protecting your property is also a right. There has to be a middle ground, but seems like no one agrees and I see capped rails and ledges in places no one even visits, and that always gets me. I'm sure its to avoid litigation, rampant in the US unfortunately, but again there has to be some middle ground somewhere. Keep enjoying NZ!

Hey man, you must have seen the new skatepark that's being built in Avalon out in Lower Hutt, it looks pretty sick, I used to skate when I was a teenager and I've still got some k2 fatty pros that I'll likely blow the dust off to hit up this new skate park, would be rude not to it's just down the road from where I live haha

Blade solo sometimes during weekdays. Lucky we have a skatepark(Davao city Skatepark) under the bridge so I can blade rain or shine. 😃

Try growing up in an old French city with ancient stairs, cobblestone, arch bridges and churches. Way better looking than the giant mall that the U.S.A are, but definitely not as fun to street skate.

The anti skating stuff in the US is likely related to our insurance system. If I bust my face open on a 12 stair at a bank, my insurance company will want to sue the bank and the banks insurance in order to not pay out my expensive medical debt. If there are no signs or skate deterrents up, that 12 stair can become something known as an "attractive nuisance" and the property owner can be liable for anyone who hurts themselves on it. Also I grew up in Southern California, but lived in Welly for a bit. The skatepark by Te Papa is great. I wished I had a park that sick in my hometown. And our weather in California can get hot, but I'll take heat over 60+ kph winds that we got in Welly.

I'm in a major US city and we do not have a public skate park. There are about 5 DIYs in abandoned lots, but it's a 40 minute drive to the suburbs for any real park. America is very much a "You can't do that here" culture.

No idea about NZ but have compared EU and US handrail height regulations. The US upper limit is pretty close to the EU lower limit. EU handrails can be about 40 cm taller than US.

Those anti skating laws are upheld based on private property and trespassing laws. If someone owns the building or land, they can prohibit whoever they want especially if we’re gonna scrape up ledges and wax them up (seen as vandalizing) or bother customers or whatever.

Forgot to mention, this might sound daft but I would never buy bright red or blue skates in NZ, because you might accidentally start some shit. Is this actually not a thing in the USA where this "culture" was imported from? Like the new THEM skates would probably get me a beating at my old local.

Lol I was arrested once because I came off a ledge and tipped over a plastic ash tray and a cop saw me. I even cleaned up all the butt's before he came over to me! Long story short I spent the night in jail and they tried to charge me with destruction of property. It got thrown out. But yeah it's was super lame. 100th like btw!

Most the spots that have signs up that says no skating or you will be fined are usually on government buildings like court houses so you just can't skate at a government building yeah those usually have the best ledges but not a huge deal most the time they don't fine you they warn you and if you don't listen then a fine

still baffles me for rain how can rain 5 times on a summer day and be dry in 10 minutes but 1 rain a week in winter can take 5 days to dry thats ireland. still something to be said for being able to wear extra layers without sweating in winter when its dry. still gotta get through leaf season

Just a quick explanation on the no skateboard laws in America that got started in the early 90s and what I saw back then was a bunch of disrespectful skateboarders and rollerbladers that did not give a crap about other people property they would cuss out security guards and people that worked at the businesses and buildings and shopping centers I believe they just wanted the skateboarders to not interrupt their customers because these kids would hang out all day looking like a bunch a homeless and be an absolute assholes to everybody and anybody It was just the culture back then so really the skateboarders caused the whole mess And that’s why they created skate parks so they had a place to skate
