I'm glad they are not making a move with Castillo just to make a move, but they definitely need to do something at third. The in house options are not good and I hope Moncada is not the fall back.

Austin Shenton is penciled in at 3B right now. I too hope they can bring back Rojas at a more reasonable salary.

My ideal off-season was to trade for Brandon Lowe and a reliever, sign Christian Walker to play 1st and give Rojas another shot at 3rd. Lowe should be available for prospects allowing most of the winter dollars on an impact first baseman

They only need a major league ready first baseman and third baseman and they could find those within the organization during Spring Training, so they don't necessarily need to do anything this off season.

Someone told me just because no one else doesn’t have 4-5 great starters means we should be willing to trade one of the young controllable starters. I say hell no!!!

Gotta boost this lineup somehow.

The M’s cannot easily trade Castillo this offseason, because he has a no-trade clause so he can decide if or where he can be traded.

3 way trade Boston, Miami, Seattle. Miami get’s Both of The Mariners mitches and locklear, mariners give in on Casas for Castillo straight up to Boston with marlins giving up a prospect to Boston to complete the trade. Saving 50 million dollars. Giving us all we need for Alonso. We bring back Rojas and Polanco cheap, sign Roki, Kim and Kim.

The reality is Dipoto is way overvaluing our starting pitching and is hampering our ability to build a team with his unwillingness to move guys who are heavily aided by pitching the majority of their starts in T-Mobile Park (and the rest of the AL West) at their highest value. What Jerry is doing is like the lovechild of Shiny Object Chasing and Prospect Hugging, not exactly a winning strategy. There is no competitive window if the team is unwilling to commit to their own espoused strategy of "draft, develop, trade". We saw it with Kelenic not being traded on time and now it is happening with the starters. Playoffs are "Plan Z to some denominator" for Dipoto and the Gang, nothing to do with how much money is on the field.

Along those same lines Dipoto and the club have to factor what a player coming from a good hitters park will do in T-Mobile. Like Casas with that friendly short porch at Fenway that inflates some of his numbers. Looking at his spray chart his numbers would definitely not have been as good at T-Mobile. Will Boston lower their value expectations because it's a friendly hitters park? No way. So I'm perfectly fine with Dipoto not lowering what he feels our starting pitchers are worth just because of where they pitch half of their games.

@Michael-id9bw I think both things can be true. Dipoto overvalues our pitching and a player like Casas isn't worth a straight swap of Castillo. I didn't say he should give them away for free, just deal from a position of strength. Kirby to Baltimore is way more appealing in terms of return than anything Castillo could get you from Boston.

@@aaronstreitenberger6012 Kirby would be worth more for sure, but let's call what dealing Castillo really is. A salary dump trade without calling it a salary dump. Ownership handcuffing Dipoto with a small budget again and Dipoto having to trade a high salary player to free up more payroll just to be able to fill out the roster.

@Michael-id9bw I don't have any issues with a salary dump or the M's being on a budget. Dipoto has handcuffed himself in plenty of ways that can be fixed without spending another dollar. This roster is already too expensive as it is currently constructed and the FO has turned down easy, cheap solutions to their roster already. Jake Burger got traded, Horowitz twice! Either guy could fill 1/4 of our lineup holes for league minimum and for packages we could easily beat. The problem is not how much money is on the table, it is how Jerry uses it.
