Additional Tip: When some inputs or outputs on your audio device are almost always used for the same devices, say, your drum mics or an external synthesizer etc, you can go to the audio preferences and create aliasses for the input channels to name them. So you could go and name Input 7 "Mic Kick", input 5 "Snare Top" etc. Then they show up with input number and name in the routing matrix as well as in the input selector on the channels. You can also set aliasses for your outputs, so for example if outputs 1 and 2 always go to your headphone, and outputs 3 and 4 go to your monitors, you can name them accordingly to make it easier to see what's going on in routing.

I came here to tell you that I stumped on your video while looking to learn about Reaper routing. Your video is exactly what I needed. Your voice is easy to listen to, you are clear, eloquent and concrete - no nonsense. Not only I learned about routing, I also picked few shortcuts I didn't know and I just picked your theme from comments section. You have a fan mister. Subscribed and thank you for your time and your efforts.

You just saved me a TON of setup time when routing tracks for virtual sound checks! One of my favorite things about reaper is there's always a new trick / better way / feature I've missed

This was very helpful. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with Reaper.

I was gonna suggest set inputs sequentially from right click menus on your track but then I saw your mic sequence lol!!! I once went on a tirade against the Routing matrix (still find it way too painful to look at for big projects) but between you and me, I use it sometimes, and in this use case it's definitely the best way to do it.

Great tutorial! Straight to the point and easy to follow along. To make it perfect, perhaps you could inteoduce chapter markers :)

Thanks Myke. You are a natural professor! If you taught nuclear physics, I would take your course.

If you hold shift and click and drag the routing button from one track to another, it will send all selected tracks to that track. The routing matrix is still faster, but I thought I'd mention that. Great content man! IMO, you're hitting that compressor way too hard lol!

Great video Myk, thanks!! Is there a way to save routing matrix sets??? I have summing mixers in my studio, but sometimes have to travel and still mix. It's a pain to manually change all of the routing back to the master channel then back to the outboard gear again.

So in what scenarios or cases would you prefer to use a track folder Vs a send group? What are the differences & benefits of each?
@LetsTalkAboutReaper16 күн бұрын
@@jonesnyirenda I think my short answer is, I prefer a folder track for a bus, and a send for effects. For example, I put all my drum kit pieces into a folder. The folder track acts as a master fader for the drums and I can also collapse the folder for better organization and work at the bus level. Effects make more sense as a send in many cases because I may be sending things from various other groups to the effect.

@LetsTalkAboutReaper That's good to hear. New to Reaper here & I'm currently evaluating it. The other I was making a mixing template & was not aware of the send bus until I bumped into your video & I got curious on what could be the major differences between the track folder as I had used track folders in my template. While we are at it, since Reaper is extremely customizable, is there a way to save how I've customized it such whenever I reinstall it I can quickly load up my setup?
@LetsTalkAboutReaper16 күн бұрын
@@jonesnyirenda absolutely. You can export your entire config or portions. Go to Options>Preferences>General and you should see both Import Configuration and Export Configuration in the dialog

How do you get the tracks showing up in differrent colors when inserting. Or is this also magic of video editing?
@LetsTalkAboutReaper3 жыл бұрын
No magic this time ;) I use SWS Extension Auto Color to create rules for automatic track coloring kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4q4fJerhdqgf68

I HATE it when people label crap "OH L" "Room L" etc. Left of what? Half of the time, the hat ends up on the opposite side of the room tracks. If people watching only learn a better way to label their tracks, we've won. Thanks.
