What do Tijuana and Haitians have in common? Recently... a whole lot. Tijuana has become a home for a community of thousands of Haitian refugees. They took great risk and traveled long distances to live somewhere they felt would be a better life and provide better working conditions. However, many of them have gotten stuck on the south side of the US border due to recent border control laws. Living in limbo, many of these refugees are still in need of proper shelter, resources and opportunities.
Rainn Wilson and Haitian actor Jimmy Jean-Louis have teamed on a very important lunch break to give you a peek into what life as a Haitian refugee in Tijuana is like.

Oscar Siguenza Not true They could had stay in any other Latinamerican country Not even go back to Brazil Do you know why they chose Mexico? Because it's economy is much better than the rest Mexico is the 6th most visited country by international tourists in the the world behind France, Spain, USA, China, & Italy Tijuana is the border city's most visited in the world. That means that in Mexico it's a much better place for a foreigner to make a living

Eliver Morales spoke to a person from Mexico that's works in the the U.S.A. HE TOLD ME THINGS ARE NOW VERY DANGEROUS IN OUR SOUTHERN BORDER! BECAUSE OF OUR PRESIDENT STOPPING ALL THE RACES FROM COMING TO THE U.S.A. AND ICE DOING IT JOB. NO MORE ILLEGALS LESS DRUGS. FOR MANY YEARS THE CORRUPT MEXICAN GOVERNMENT KNEW THIS. AND ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS CONCENTRATE ON OUR SOUTHERN BORDER. BUT THEY DIDN'T BECAUSE THE CORRUPT MEXICAN POLITICIANS LIVE LIKE KINGS. INSTEAD OF HELPING THEIR PEOPLE. WHY IS IT THAT THEY COME TO WORK IN THE U.S.A. NO FIELD WORK IN MEXICO NO JOBS. I WORK FOR OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT. ALL OUR custodians were from Mexico. OUR GOVERNMENT HOUSING more MEXICAN FAMILIES! THEY DON'T FOLLOW RULES OR OUR LAWS. GOT ASSAULTED BY THE MEXICAN CITIZENS FOR DOING MY JOB!!

Haitians are hard workers, after they got stuck in Tijuana, they didn't beg, they started to work and integrated to Tijuana society almost imediately. Less than 1 year they are all stablished, not perfect but there are alot of mexicans doing worst in tijuana. But Haitians are a reminder to all us, how if you work, you can be succesful anywhere.

@@heythere3780 Umm, I can't imagine someone, regardless of race, being in such a situation and not wanting to work to get themselves out of it. However, not wanting to work happens with everyone, not only Haitians. Edgar was obviously speaking in general terms.

@heythere3780 5 жыл бұрын
@@DarkEmpress1 Well not everyone thinks like you. Go yourself and try to give these guys some work, I guarantee you that some of them will turn you down if you don't pay them what USAmericans make. They never intended to be "stuck" in Mexico, they thought they could trick USA into giving them asylum. Mexico is a 3rd world country and gets paid 3rd world wages. Mexicans are offering jobs to the Haitians over their own citizens and get treated lile that. It's a shame. Once again, it's some and not all.
@DarkEmpress1
@DarkEmpress1 5 жыл бұрын
@@heythere3780 I know not everybody thinks the same and it's very obvious that you don't think like I do. I just found it funny that you came on a fairly positive video and comment section to say what you did. That's like people who talk bad about Mexicans and perpetuate the "lazy Mexican" stereotype. They never intended to be in Tijuana, OK. How is that different from other people (including Latinx ones) who want to get into the U.S. and get "stuck" in another country? And how are some refusing to take a job if they're not paid what Americans pay...yet they are given jobs over Mexicans? 🤔🤔 That doesn't make sense and it's contradictory because let's be honest, we all know that immigrants are usually taken advantage of and paid WAY less. They're probably refusing because the pay is probably VERY low for the kind/amount of work they have to do, which I wouldn't blame anyone for, no matter the race. Your comments are very reminiscent of what people in the U.S. who are against immigration say.

Teamototo TV Every group of people have done bad things, have Haitians genocided Mexicans in Tijuana? No. Now if Haitians purposely genocided true Americans (natives, not you white appropriaters) then you may have an argument. I suspect you are referring to DR politics. in that case, make it specific with historical context. I don't take sides, I am open to new and factually based information. I love both DR and Haitians, good people are good people and there are always some rotten filthy apples....please edify me.

Is this LOVE that I'm feeling? Helping people out in when they are at their lowest is such a beautiful thing. The Haitians had it bad and nobody wanted to help. I don't believe in god but this man is a blessing to humanity and we should learn from him. He put in money from his own pocket, his family's pocket and donations to create that church and to help the immigrants. I was always a bad person. Greedy, selfish, liar, manipulator etc. Events like this break me down and I start to question this life.

I can't even begin to imagine what it's like to travel through 10 different countries and make it to the final border just to have your dream for a better life be denied. The Haitians people deserve better, and anyone who is denying these refugees assistance clearly never sat across a table from one and talked to them. I can't imagine anyone with a heart would tell them "no". Even though it's still very difficult, it is comforting to know that the Mexican people have so much heart, and that they are truly trying to help with this situation, within it's limitations.

Unfortunately this is getting worse. I'm from Mexico City and now we are seeing immigrants from Southamerica and Haiti in places where you usually wouldn't see an immigrant. I just wish the best for them and they are welcome to be part of our country, to live here as long as they work and contribute to our society.

I'm from Mexicali which is 120 miles east from tijuana. Back in maybe November 2016 thousands of Haitians came to the border. Now after 2 years they are working in many areas of Mexicali. They've found significant others here, have found a new life and are slowly becoming part of the community. It's nice to see diversity in Mexico.
