I read a post on SRK years ago where someone insightfully described this as cranking up the noise on your “signal-to-noise ratio” because it makes you way harder to read or react to. Wish I could remember who to give credit to. The idea itself is permanently seared into my brain.

It's worth adding that if you know a great button to whiff on someone's wakeup, then by all means, do so because tricking them into thinking you're mashing will just cause them to play worse. Great does not always mean fast, just try to whiff something that won't leave you negative if you want to trick them.

@@SupermanSajam yea but I feel like the only way this idea works is if the opponent expects they should be able to whiff punish it. Otherwise it's just preemptive buttons in neutral no? Like pre nerf Nago just doing 2s over and over again because that move had k button recovery, I wouldn't exactly consider that baiting since everyone knew that move was essentially impossible to whiff punish. So in faster games people would have the same assumption. It's the moves that look like you should be able to whiff punish them that seem to ve where this strategy is most useful.

Whew I could answer this question just by reading the title. Half the cast has such negligible recovery on their attacks that they can whiff (intentionally or not) without repercussion. The game is the most "balanced" it's ever been, but it's also the most boring it's ever been because they keep removing notable weakness from characters except a small few and just give everyone all the tools they need. Weeeeeee. SF6 soon.
@mattb6616
@mattb6616 Жыл бұрын
Comment gives me the sense you didn't play sf6 beta because "removing notable weaknesses from characters" and "just give everyone all the tools" seems to be the M.O. for that game.

Can't wait for you to make the same complaints in SF6, see you in the comments there~
@MotorcycleYeti
@MotorcycleYeti Жыл бұрын
@@mattb6616 I try to only compare games to themselves throughout development. GG and SF are developed by different people, even if the general mindset seems to be approaching a similar trajectory. It's one thing to give every character all the tools they need to be successful, but that's just not the case in GG. They have however given like half the characters what they need while eliminating just about any risky gameplay. For most of the cast, "weaknesses" tend to be matchup specific rather than design. Things like, "This ability isn't even that good because can punish it!". Meanwhile, other characters have universal weaknesses and seem to simply exist to elevate the fan favorites.
@MotorcycleYeti
@MotorcycleYeti Жыл бұрын
@@ArkRiley Depends on whether or not Capcom applies the logic unilaterally or if they cherry pick like Arcsys. I don't typically expect that level of nuanced thinking from randos in the comment section though.
