This summer many expected some hits on the restriction list to dock Shiranui down a peg once again, but much to everyone's surprise - no changes. Bushiroad gave their reasoning for this, and some aren't very happy with it...

I’ve read the document myself…I get what they were going for in general, but I feel that shiranui needed to get hit. Again. The “win rate not large enough” is true for everything else except shiranui…looking at top 16 sheets from WGPs like Nagoya, how do they assume that Shiranui is “not impressive”? How do they define topping? Compulsory 1st place win? Especially given diversity cut(as u rightly mentioned) I’m alright with diversity cut as a JP player, but if they choose not to hit based on the skewed data as a result of the cut, it basically protects shiranui…. And also u mentioned correctly, I do agree with diversity cut, because of how it allows “rogue decks” to get a shot in top cut. Overall, if they continued to keep diversity cut, but dealt with shiranui a bit more, I would be ok with that result. The format is pretty healthy rn outside of shiranui, and what sucks is that DZLBT01 and also the upcoming Destined Ones could be very fun and interesting, but unless any get a direct counter ability, Shiranui will continue to prosper…does bushiroad WANT us to get an emergency ban mid way at this point?? Then again, this also raises the Wslasher Debate on how do u hit shiranui? Would love ur take on that DF…. Thanks for reading till the end of this PS yes V Gurguit needs a hit IMO

People would argue a few ways. I will just list the ones that come to mind here 1.) Shenryi. A very good plus engine for Shiranui, it makes the deck draw hard and very good plus in the process. Hitting Shenryi would be the best since it would slow down Shiranui's early game and stop it from trying to G2 stall as well as it does right now. 2.) Esperidia. The deck having a restander outside it's normal restanders that uses soul is big. it means that Shiranui has more multi attackers it can use besides the one in the stride deckset it comes with 3.) Shojodoji. This option would murder the g2 game of Shiranui. Now Shiranui players cannot use Shojodoji to try and farm advantage by riding to Genkai and then riding to Shojo from their hand and start trying to farm for stealth named cards. These are what came to mind and what I think would be the most impactful hits. as for why Shiranui's dodging the ban hammer. I suspect it's because while Shiranui tops, Bushiroad's releasing more decks in the future and that could change how Shiranui would play against them. If this is YGO where it's mainly singles competetion i can guarantee that Shiranui would be hit but since a majority of Vanguard tournaments are 3v3, even if you have shiranuis on both teams, you still got to have the other decks be good to win the whole set. Shiranui is a strong deck but you got to have equally strong decks to back you up otherwise you are not getting far

Just hit Fuurai. The thing that makes Shiranui disgusting is 7 attacks. Fuurai is the biggest one, the others are pretty puny.

For what need hits in the other formats: For V Prem as chat mentioned, Gurguit is a bit overtuned now with the ride fixer promo. It now has access to a card that calls 2 units from top 5 deck, and with Gurguit's skill, gives them a bunch of power. It's essentially like giving Gurguit another copy of it's own on attack skill with the power that goes along with it. A hit to the ride fixer would make it a lot better to play against Gurguit. For Prem, it going to have to be Granblue and Neo Nectar. Both have access to strides that allow them to search their deck for any 5 cards they want, making them very consistent in their gameplan. With Enlargov as well, they can recycle the g3 heals to use them again for g guarding. The easiest answer would be to ban those strides, but that makes NN a dead clan again and GB into another highroll clan with navigator (which is something that's not fun to play with and against). A theoretical hit would have to hit those deck's consistency without just murdering the clan's identity. Oh and I guess the g1 crest makers on a watchlist. Again, playing with/against a deck that lives and dies on a highroll isn't something that's enjoyable (even tho I've very much enjoyed my homemade CrestNui list). I don't think any of the crest decks are in need of a hit (including Shiranui, I've talked to a few pro prem players and they say the deck is easily beatable if you know how to play around it), but with Harri getting a crest, it might genuinally lead to some very broken stuff. If anyone else has anything to add, please do so.

I think Bushi needs to relook at how they ban cards. Back when Zarzan was the problem, they hit it before it was even legal in English. That was such a nice quality of life change they made to the game because they knew what the results were in Japan. Now, I think they need to learn that decks deserve some hits, not only because they top, but the potential is there to bring down the overall player experience. I’ve been hearing a lot about how games are dragged into time with the Keter hostage builds, and I think that hurts just as much as a dominant deck.

Bushi doesn't wanna hit shiranui until they can release another batch of stride decks to break the game in September :) They hit Shira now -> everyone angry, Bushi earns nothing other than pissing off players Hit Shira just before Nightrose release -> Every1 will be too hyped over Nightrose and forget that shira even existed which will just boost sales to the maximum as (stride-loving) players look for the next broken stride to abuse the meta with My hot take on why Bushi refuses to hit Shiranui

The lack of changes is cringe, the reasoning is questionable, but the fact that we did get reasoning at all is great and seems like it's going underappreciated. Card games having "patch notes" to go along with their banlists should be the norm IMO. Good on them for that step and I hope we so more of it in the future from not just Bushi but also other companies like Konami and WOTC.

I think it's crazy how they took away dog from Luard (although I agree that Luard with dog was probably the best deck in the format in Asia as we can see from Indonesia and Singapore especially) and all they did was slow down Shiranui's G2 game and a sacky OT winning play. Fuurai is the problem card but the problem is if you limit/ban that card, Shiranui is unplayable, but with it, anyone can play the deck.

What would you say the overall feelings are in JP towards diversity cut? As an English player I think it sounds super interesting, because it can reward you for playing decks you actually like and not just hopping over to what's meta if you want to be competitive.

I think it's the cost of those stride decks. But I do think they should hit stuff. Look at paradox's list. I get they don't want to. But when they see a problem meta in japan, they do nothing for the english side, when they know the results. I had a rep tell me oh the english meta doesn't reflect japan. but yet in english shiranui and luard has a lot of tops.

It could just be a sign that they expect their upcoming set to creep Shiranui out. Bushi just really doesnt like hitting things. That has never really changed with the exception of the one super strong Premium restriction list from 2021

I have a silly question lol So I haven't played VG in a HOT minute. Absolutely love Shiranui, totally get some people might be upset he didn't get hit, but I would love to play him again. Debating on buying a Shiranui deck, but is it inevitable he's most likely getting hit in time? Will the deck be dead once the ride line or whatever gets hit like in JP? I just would hate to buy it, deck gets hit, now I'm just out lol

The results of the last 3 months I showed in Japan are actually almost all AFTER the hit - the deck is still very much a top tier despite it! Honestly I feel like even if they hit one of the restanders of the Deckset it would still be Tier 2 at lowest, the core mechanics of the deck are just too good to be bad imo. You're pretty safe to pick it up!

I was really dissapointing in the lack of proactive action against Shiranui. The way they analize their tournament results is really wack, when they say Shiranui does not have an exceptional topping rate I feel we are not playing the same game. I think what makes me recent this decision about the lack of hits to Shiranui is that even if they went and say "Vairina Esperaridea cannot be played alongside Shiranui" it would not change the decks topping position by any significant margin. Shiranui would still be a Stride deck with excelent early game thanks to the draw power from the crest, Shenry, Tenrei and the new EB cyclers not to mention their consistency tools like the DS/DE dual nation and their Oboro searcher. Adding to the mix a deck that with only a SB2, a discarded card and CB1 makes 7 attaks (triple drive included) on turn 3 if went 2nd. What needs to go are the 2 native restanders of the deck, they were badly designed and Bushiroad would rather re-estructure the way stride decks work in standard and ban the usage of an especific OT rather than takling the main issue. Making cards like Ladder or printing more cards with "resist" is just dancing in circles around the issue. Dominate was (and is) a bad mechanic, a deck that can perform 2 out of 7 attacks using resources from the opponent and having the chance of performing drive checks with said units should not be allowed in the current game enviroment.

On the going 1st vs 2nd dynamic; as a Doll player I'd love to go 2nd more, but its only in Stride match-ups - where I can ask if they're using a G Zone before deciding - that I ever feel safe picking 2nd cuz the really aggressive decks that love going 1st are waaay too scary to go 2nd against, and if my opponent isn't on a G Zone I have no clue if they're on one of those scary going 1st decks when the decision is made.

I want all sort of recycle pg getting hit more than shiranui hit. Zorga + shadow cloak + pg, luard returning PG, Razeal call back pg, they might not seeing much in top because there are TIME LIMIT. In local where they did not really limit how long you play, these decks are cancer and hostage. And what more, there is one case where 2 Luard players can fight for one and half hours because they never deckout and play very defensively for getting first place in local.

Stoichea can recycle pg too and much worse they have a way to put bind cards back into drop so the pg will be reused again and again. The problem is you need to have hand to cover for the cost. Stoichea don't have anything as stupid as the dog so the abuse is much more restraint then in Keter.

what they need to do is conversion take a percentage of how many total of each deck brought up in the tournaments and see how much it converts into the top-cut if let's say 20 people brought up some decks like kairi or ezel and none of them managed to tops meanwhile 20 shiranui total in participants and 16 of them tops that in itself has to say something

Honestly, outside of DZSS01 cards (the dual nations and discard cycles), I think the most effective way to hit Shiranui is giving another choice restriction for the restanders, by allowing only either Fuurai or G4 Vairina in the main deck.

Best Shadowverse Ambassador talking about VG Banlist (There isn't one) On one note for Premium, Shiranui needs to be choice restricted to only have Fuurai at least. They already have the crest, das fine. But G2 stride wif the copy grade 0 plus 3 potential restanders, all for basically free, plus Shojodoji still being able to fetch put Shiranui only to have it returned to hand wif cards like Magatsu Gale, is a bit too much. Get rid of Sekiei and Esperidea, and you have a good deck that still can top, but just less toxic

honestly if buishroad looks at the misrepresented data like that its on their end. The biggest question to ask is if its unhealthy for the game? is shiranui such unforgiving deck does warrents a ban and even if u are going to ban it how would u go about it ? the dominant mechanic is an extremely powerful forces players their hand size and speeding up the game if u take away their mutile attacker they at most will 6 attacks. TLDR the dominant mechanic is OP and there not much counter play(beside checking a trigger ) the only thing to nerf the deck is to slow the deck down there really no other way u can go about it next is diversity cut if anyone say its a bad thing to implement then they one dont understand why its better or dont feel comfortable to be at the mercy of the event macthups spread.Taking a tier 1 -2 deck should be rewarded as their taking a risk as opose to playing meta (more effiecent) the argument comes to this would u rather be at the mercy of how fast ur teamates and ur opponent play or be rewarded for predicting meta.me personally i find it more rewarding to know that the deck me and my teamate planed paid off rather then doing what popular and rushing to complete games or being held gun point by double game lose.Honestly if u go x-1 in most tourney ur most likely not going to make it top cut its rather very difficult thats why diversity is a system that rewards players for game knowledge not external factors such as i turn 3 elder breath the guy then he just go hoho(not me ;{ ) on the note yes u could theorically hold people hostage if u know what people are playing and your damm confident u can win in diversity which is falwed but ahh if u do that ur smart and a retard lol . to sum up i rather choose something i can control and be rewarded then being relegated to my opponent playing

TBH V is a doomed Format. Gurguit is the best Deck, but when you hit that, Nightrose will be the best Deck, when you hit that, Thavas and or Leopald will be the best Deck and so on. And all these decks legitematly threaten lethal in their first Grade 3 turn, when they're going first so it is Heal Trigger in Hand or bust for the going 2nd player. It's not worth the effort anymore and they would need to hit too much or design even more defensive options. The new defense promos still need you to have a heal, so they're not really a fix for the format and they are clearly designed for Premium. Just let V die
