I’m a married man and my own personal advice is to always be honest about how you’re feeling. Communication is very important. It doesn’t always fix your problem but you definitely cannot fix your problems if you don’t know how each other feel. It’s important you communicate, even if you know it’s not something your partner will want to hear. At least you know where the other stands. This literally saved my marriage.

As a father AND step father, I find a lot of truth in his last statements. I do my absolute best to treat both kids equally; my actions are based as if my step child is *my* child, or at least to the degree that I’m capable. But it’s very hard, especially when it comes to patience. I think the biggest reason might be the subconscious acknowledgement that my daughter looks like me, and so I see myself in her, and I like myself, so in turn, I can empathize much more naturally. With my step daughter, I really take a lot of time to reflect on every interaction, especially negative ones, to make sure that if I’m not doing something right, I do it less wrong the next time. So… as easy as it is to screw your own kids up, I am sure that it is even more likely that step kids go through a lot.

You know most psychologists know and do nothing about actual psyche of their patients. They just want them to live according to the wishes of the therapist, its like raising a child. You dont solve their problems you convince them to live like you want them. It is a corrupted form of maternal instict because the problem is therapist is human too and probably she is just as screwed as you are. Worst is a female therapist that is divorced 2 times with 3 kids giving you advice on how you should solve the problems in your familiy... GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.

Oh boy. The internet. Everyone is a master of what they’re saying on here. You’ve got one group of people promoting staying together no matter what for 80 years, then another side promoting running away from your responsibilities. Jordan and other motivational speakers don’t have some cosmic insider tips that the rest of us don’t. It’s all opinion. No one really KNOWS what the fuck they’re talking about; you just form opinions and present them as knowledge that resonates with some and not others. What we should be doing is promoting knowledge and understanding and preparation. What good does it do to shame someone for getting a divorce? Or to applaud someone for “living the life they want”? These things happen, no matter what, it’s life. We should be preparing for these some times inevitable outcomes. Teach people about marriage; the practical points. The fact that your spouse could possibly have an affair, or you might fall out of love, how you’re going to raise your kids. It’s not a fantasy world. Life is going to happen rather you like it or not. As a grown man who never had a father the perspective in some of the opinions on divorce and life is so surprising. My parents got divorced when I was an infant. That pales in comparison to the fact my father stopped seeing me when I was 8 or 9 years old and I’ve never seen it heard from him since. It’s all about perspective. Then people are talking about divorce like it’s a tragedy; what the people involved in that divorce do after the fact determines if it’s a tragedy or not.

"What's the alternative? Everything is mutable and changable at any moment?" Well, that's how life actually works. Get married if you want, I am going to, but doesn't change the fact she can die at any moment. A real relationship is built on a foundation of trust that you won't leave when things get rough. That foundation is built every day on a deeper level then you could ever get to with a ring, vow, and expensive wedding.

You may want to direct the "change" idea at the horrible shrew, but that's not my concern. If she wants to be such a horrible person that her husband would rather die than stay with her, then we know everything we need to know about her. My guess is that you've entirely missed the point of men going their own way. Nobody is trying to tell women to change. Nobody is trying to control what they do.
