We are missing the point my friends. Dr. Shetty is not saying there are no government seats, but how less compared to the number thats supposed to be seeing hight population health needs. And he is speaking about the insane competition for the seats. And this situation has become an opportunity for private colleges to sell seats. Government is so pathetic in meeting the needs of medical education. There are disproportionately high number of aspirants who are disappointed each year because of intensely narrow entries. The smart, rich,fittest, the strong, they can get whatever they want, its not about them. There are plenty of passionate people out there who couldn't get through the tough entrance test but can prove their metal once they get in there. The bottom line is there should be a level playing field. This is where Indian educational system differs, falls behind from the rest of developed nations where there is competition but not to a ridiculous degree as here. You don't find colleges selling seats in us or Europe, It's there in India. This is a bad culture, it must change. Interesting aspect Dr. Shetty mentioned, doctors are artists and that he personally probably may not be able to clear entrance exams in India but can be better at surgical skills, this awareness is lacking. I wish Indian educational system focuses more on a persons passion and skill rather than mere brain power. Heart over head, passion over power, not survival of the fittest but a fare and level playing field.

In the US, the wealthy class here bribes prestigious schools to accept their offspring. If a sufficient number of these young people wanted to become doctors, we also would see the bribery happening in our medical schools. The US has had a chronic doctor shortage too. The powers that be won't increase the allowable number of students accepted into medical school to eliminate the problem. This is allegedly done to keep this profession's incomes high. To alleviate at least some of the shortage, the US steals doctors from India and other poor countries. This in turn creates (higher) shortages in theirs. Really sucks what's been going on.

It's not about exam. He's talking about the ton of fee a "private" medical college charges where you can get admission just by scoring 120/720 in neet, which is pretty easy to do.. The actual pressure is in govt medical college seat, a few bunch of seats per state and students have to suffer, cutoff around 590/720!! This is too much..

Not neet pg Or aiims pgi nimhans jipmer.These exams test core concept of subjects.Just because everyone is cursing the exam system doesn't mean a standardized system of evaluation is bad.It is the most scientific way to assess the skills.In neet pg 2020 most of the paper was clinical and the exam should test the diagnosing ability of the candidate.The exam system is not faulty the way our teachers teach us in medical college is faulty.I feel the pg exam is much more fair than mbbs professional examinations. Minimum amount of bias is there.Image based and clinical questions are already introduced.Some of my friends said 3.30 hr of neet pg 2020 feels like a hard session in opd.Clinical scenario probable diagnosis image based , investigation,next step of management.This is the pattern.

India is loosing some talented doctors. Those who go to study abroad may not be returning to India. Most of the Indian students wasting their time for cracking the exams like UPSC,KPSC, IIT, CAT etc whereas foreign university students do research in different fields. if you are burdened with just the entrance then the best for you is to choose other proffession, it will get tougher and tougher as you progress. I will give you a glance (im not trying to scare you) first year- 4 subjects ( all books are > 1000 pages) and if you fail anyone you will lag by 6 months toughest is anatomy- you have to remember 10/ more nerve course, 100 musles name, complete details of main bones including attachment. ( For a try Google muscle attachment of femur bone and you have to remember all ) 2nd year- 4 subjects ,patho toughest ( 2000 pages) next toughest pharmac, in this literally you have to remember nearly thousand drugs name and their action (I'm not joking). Micro and forensic are little easy compared to above(they are also 1000 books) 3rd year- toughest is Ophthal , as this is associated with optical instruments, community medicine( 1000 pages) is too much to read but we can pass it little related to general knowledge, forensic is easier (~ 500pages) 4th year - for this year you should know all of the previous subjects to understand this subjects or else you won't understand it.all are big subjects, medicine( >2000pages) requires patho, micro, pharamac knowledge , surgery ( anatomy knowledge is must), Obstetrics and gynaec is new subject but basics from anat is required, paediatrics is easier and some small subjects like anaesthesia, radiology, Dermat, phsyciatry have to be read Every year has 3/2 internals and have to get 50% in every subject theory and practicals Final exams also requires 50% to pass, both theory and practicals and they can ask from any where from those huge books internship- everyday has duty except govt holiday/sunday- half day, should be in hospital by sharp 8 And will leave by 4/5 night duty minimum 1/week , where you will do 24hr duty with minimum sleep and continue tommorows duty as usually (=36 hours duty with 5/6 hour disturbed sleep ) I didn't expalin practicals part and they have separate books😔, and many more.... so if you can't study/intelligent enough to pass entrance , I'm sure you are not intelligent enough to pass any of these subjects. "one last thing everyone has heart to serve, but in this proffession it needs both brain and heart" so study well👍

There are many govt based high quality colleges in India, like my own college JIPMER, where Postgraduates are paid while they learn. Generalising the "buying" of medical seats is wrong. I would disagree to the proposition that doctors are artists, because there is no right way to paint, there is no wrong way to paint. But there is definitely a right way or ways to practice medicine (or perform a surgery) and there is possibility for mistakes when knowledge is inadequate.

Karthik Ajith I do agree that there are highly prestigious institutions like aiims, PGI and jipmer. But the amount of competition to get into these institutions is extreme. The amount of UG seats are increasing exponentially and pg seats aren’t increasing proportionally. This is definitely creating a huge gap, which can not be bridged by countable number of seats that are available in central institutions. Moreover a persons ability to be a specialist can’t be depending on 250-300Questions that he answers in a span of approx 3hours, or the amount of money in his bank account. These exams are testing the stress handling capacity, and the ability of cramming information rather than his ability of being a specialist and working as one.
@karthikajith2831
@karthikajith2831 4 жыл бұрын
@@DrAnuHegdeTheMeanderingMedico I was just stating that there are institutions where quality education is provided at a subsidised rate. (Many state Govt colleges are good too.). So, giving crores for a pg seat is not the only way, not the most common way of getting a good PG seat. In a country like India, where the number of people wanting PG is so high, is it possible to keep an alternative to MCQ tests. If we keep interviews, letters of recommendation and research experience, in India, we can be sure that there will be a lot of backdoor entries with the influence of politics or money. Although MCQ tests might not be the best way to judge competency for a pg seat, it is impartial and gives credit to merit.

@karthikajith2831 4 жыл бұрын
@Being Human Keep in mind that PG entrance MCQs are becoming more and more clinical oriented year after year. The US system also has MCQ tests. Although having research publications is desirable, the MBBS curriculum is not designed to let students have time to do research . I did one in 2nd year and had to skip classes to do research work and get papers signed for ethics committee and what not.

Yes exactly , work experience should count in addition to the neet score for getting a pg seat . You are missing the point my friend. Dr. Shetty is not saying there are no government seats, but how less compared to the number thats supposed to be. And he is speaking about the insane competition for the seats. And this situation has become an opportunity for private colleges to sell seats. Government is so pathetic in meeting the needs of medical education. There are disproportionately high number of aspirants who are disappointed each year because of intensely narrow entries. The smart, rich,fittest, the strong, they can get whatever they want. Shetty mentioned, doctors are artists and that he personally probably may not be able to clear entrance exams in India but can be better at surgical skills. I wish Indian educational system focuses more on a persons passion and skill rather than mere brain power. It's a complex subject anyways

And then the student keeps on dropping the years...putting all his money in the tuition for those entrance exams. And as if now due to covid-19 it has became worse😔and i am currently preparing for NEET-UG without any tuition.
