I'm 41 and recently realised I'd be considered an OG Rollerblader due to when I started. I'm thinking about getting back it into a little more seriously after 25 years. Much thanks to guys like you for keeping the scene alive. Also I recognise most of the places in this video as I'm in the Norwich area.

Hey, that's awesome. Definitely get back I to it. Plenty of people in their forties and fiftys are still shredding. Law from 50/50 just started a new boot company at 48 🤙 He's got a channel called back to blading if you haven't come across it yet Definitely worth checking out. Come join us for a Wednesday night skate if you fancy it. Every Wednesday 7pm till 10pm at Delta 4 Skatepark in Norwich 😁

Spot on. When you only have 2 hours to skate, you can’t waste an hour waiting for everyone to agree on a spot only to be kicked out in the first 10 minutes.
@chrischadwick15 ай бұрын
Hey Corey, thanks for swinging by. Yeah agreed man. Its even worse in the UK where the spots aren't even good 🤣
@chrisgoblin48575 ай бұрын
I agree with everything here. At 33 I maybe get 3/4 hours on a Sunday morning for the crew to get out and skate. I don't want to spend my time skating from spot to spot. Go to a park and you can use most of that time actually skating.
@chrischadwick15 ай бұрын
Yeah agreed. So rare to have a whole day to skate these days. You have to make the most of your time.
@Andrew_DC55 ай бұрын
At 37 i agree with all of the points made in the video. Skateparks are so convenient, you know you arnt going to get hassled and can just do your thing, put on the skates and roll. I cant afford to injure myself these days so skating street, unless its with in my limitations isnt really a good idea. I still suffer sometimes from a skate injury i got back in 2019. At this age i’m not about having confrontations with the police or property owners over skating a ledge or rail. I will still skate street sometimes if its a spot out of the way of the general public etc where you arnt going to get bothered by anyone or damage anyone property. Being older skateparks are also an easy meet up point and most people our age have kids they are introducing into blading/bmx/skateboarding, so it just makes sense.
@chrischadwick15 ай бұрын
Spot on mate. It's an interesting shift but makes so much sense for older blading
@DirectedByRocko5 ай бұрын
Agreed with everything, another small reason is, when you fall in a skatepark people understand it's just a thing that happens. When you fall in the street people check on you and try to give you advice lol. Also no car traffic in the skatepark, no gravel, pebbles or sticks and you're more likely to see other skaters use obstacles in ways you or your crew may not have thought of.
@chrischadwick15 ай бұрын
Yeah that's a good point man. Falling over on skates in the streets always attracts unwanted attention

Great video, man. I am 49 and I've been skating since 1994. I agree with all you said. I've been living in Taiwan for the past 18 years and we are fortunate to have lots of great street skating spots and skate parks here. I prefer street skating, but once in a while, I do go to a skate park. Whatever place you pick enjoy it and have fun

Spot on. Skate parks have increasingly gotten better over time with a diversity of obstacles, which make them more appealing to session.

Im 41. im too old to be interested in handrails and getting kicked off or moaned at . I'd rather go to a local skatepark nice and early when it's quiet. Do a few grinds on the box here and there not bothering anyone nice and chill.
@chrischadwick15 ай бұрын
Yeah totally get that Dave. Nothing beats a chill session at the local 👌

I grew up and started skating from the very Beginning. Lived in Connecticut... would make my parents drive me to NY to skate. Often times street with the locals. There wasnt parks the way they exist today. All I had was street. I never got good. Only souls and frontsides on big ledges and rails. Now a days I love parks and only skate park because I can actually learn grinds.
@chrischadwick15 ай бұрын
Yeah definitely. Parks are way better for learning grinds and progressing 🤙

On the other hand side, I love my street spots (those where I'm never kicked out), because I mostly have them for my own and I can practice in peace when I need to. Park is great to meet other people obviously.
@chrischadwick15 ай бұрын
Yeah definitely man. When it's a no hassle spot in a public space I absolutely love skating Street from time to time. All the spots in Anchor are all just that, but we had to travel across two counties for one section
@tahneejenkins94445 ай бұрын
I'm 34 and I do street skate 👀 the only skate park near me is not begginer friendly. I'm not exactly a beginner I did this 15 years ago but it's been such a long time I'm kind of starting back at the basics and I find the skatepark to be overwhelming although I do find potholes and the blind markers to be a challenge when I first got back out there. The blind markers have made me crash more than once haha

Spot on mate. Especially the time factor, I'll usually skate on an evening so want to go somewhere that I'm sure I'll be able to skate. When we used to have an entire Saturday to hit as many spots as possible it didn't matter if we got the boot or there was a car parked in the runup as there was always other options but if I'm only out for couple of hours or so I want to get my money's worth!
@chrischadwick15 ай бұрын
Yeah definitely man. It's a lot of work to make street work and be fun. We managed to bring it together for Anchor though. It came together really well.

As an adult, I have better perspective on what it means to be a property owner. If someone was trying to wax up my front step, I don't think I'd be very pleased. So knowing that I might be causing someone else the same stress doesn't feel good. If it's a generally public area that won't create an issue for someone, I don't mind skating there. But those spots are usually pretty on-note and I don't have interest in dedicating much time to them unless for a specific reason like a video section. Skate parks offer me the choice to skate rails, ledges, hips, banks, transition all in one place. The streets just don't have that versatility, unfortunately.
@chrischadwick15 ай бұрын
Well said man. When you have limited time to skate you don't need that kind of friction.
@whatchaMACALLEM-2225 ай бұрын
yeah all i used to do was skate street and you'd only catch me in a park in the winter or a rainy day now im a park rat. this was pretty spot on.
@chrischadwick15 ай бұрын
Haha I know the feeling. We used to jab at people who only skated park, now that's definitely me. Tom absolutely crushed it in his street section though. Can't wait to put it out!

Difference is exactly like free range (street) vs battery chicken(park) especially with scooter guys bashing into u in park

There are more skateparks in the UK now than there ever used to be. Park skating is just that much more accessible than it used to be.

Yeah absolutely. Even in Norfolk I have a handful of decent outdoor parks on my doorstep. Very different from the early days.
