Congratulations on having that record player, I want one like that, but let's see if I can do it, I've never made one, but I must learn how to do it, because I have 7-10 and 12-inch records and about 40 16-inch diameter records and I want to listen to them and well, the few that I have seen on KZbin are very expensive. That one you have here is something like what I use. Once again congratulations. It's a nice approach to reducing tracking errors, but very long arms tend to have resonance issues that reflect/feedback into the cartridge. Good ones, like the Graham 12" arm have solved this problem, but are $$$$$. VPI also has a 14" arm that due to its length doesn't require the shell to be offset as the error with such an arm is less than that of even an offset 12" arm.

Trial and error I suppose and the sheer curiosity if and how it works. Many great inventions of mankind were made like this. Even though I highly doubt that in the inherently imperfect turntable/ vinyl system itself can be achieved reasonable improvement without completely negating practicality. Nice to look at and great handcrafts though…sound isn’t lifelike. Got myself the Eva Cassidy cd …sounds WAY more lifelike on a really good CD player and system.

Beautiful, but I doubt that an arm of this length can be done without resonance issues that are worse than the problem it solves.
@rickhigginson85462 жыл бұрын
Experiment! Thin bamboo tube may have a resonant frequency which is quite high! Fiberglass & / or composite material may minimize resonance issues. Materials may be inexpensive, to free! Assemble it yourself! May be delicate, as are modern cartridges. Moving coil cartridges should impart very little vibration. In, `the old days,' cartridges used crystals, which, while more distorting, worked! Requited more tracking force, sometimes a LOT, incurring wear on the disc -

"Beautiful, but I doubt" The lie is before the "but" the truth after. Negative Nancy much? Can or have you done better? Please share if you have. Why not just give credit where credit is due. This is what it looks like... Great job!
@gaborozorai37142 жыл бұрын
@@jootb I would hate to be seen as someone who is negative for the sake of it so let me respond. I have given credit where due, it is indeed beautifully made. I would be glad to have the tools and skills to make such an object. However, a tonearm is not purely an exercise in aesthetics. It is there to face up to some technical challenges. Why is it unfair to point out one's doubts when a design focuses single-mindedly on one of these challenges, thereby making it more difficult to meet another equally important one? Of course it may still work. Maybe the length and slenderness of the arm wand puts its resonances in a range where they are less harmful.

Great work, but always the same music, which will sound great on any player! Eve Cassidy, Diana Krall, which in fact are easy to reproduce. I want to hear when it really get's tough, and not via internet!
@sc0or Жыл бұрын
Hm... Have you checked internal resonances of such looooong tonearms? There are no materials stiff enough with a such diameter and a length. An effective mass I guess is insane. You are limited with only few Japanese cartridge models. I hope you've found a crazy customer for that ... piece of art.
@madmeister407 Жыл бұрын
Any system will sound half decent when not given a complicated piece of music to reproduce (go to any Hi Fi show to witness this). Eva has such a depth and tone to her voice which gives an overwhelming sense of emotion when she sings. This seems to be missing here and her voice sounds a bit sterile. Maybe its because the speaker is firing directly towards the cartridge, who knows but I have heard Eva sound better.
@alanrogs3990 Жыл бұрын
Nothing beats a larger well made driver. Music is just simply fuller. It could also be the amount of oil in the tonearm pivot cups.
@madmeister407 Жыл бұрын
@@alanrogs3990 Its just a bad design. The plinth is like a sail catching everything the speakers throw at it which in turn will affect the arm and sound. Basics are small isolated plinth, rigid tonearm and keep it away from the speakers. You don't need anything bigger than a 12 inch arm. This turntable is a shocking design.
@madmeister407 Жыл бұрын
PS, you could snap the arm like a twig its so femmer. Its not a diy HI Fi turntable, it's a home made record spinner.

Impressive job.However, while a long tangential tone arm may reduce tracking angel error, a well placed and well designed tone arm with a proper overhanging tracking angle may achieve the same result or even better with a shorter arm length, resulting in a stiffer and more rigid mechanical advantage in low frequency response and better attack of bass quality. The motor , even though mechanically isolated from the mounting rack, it may theoretically better isolated from the platter and tone arm, and not mounted to the plinth, but sit isolated on its own. Just a one cent worth of personal opinion, no offence.✌️🙏. The finish is fantastic.
@sph76742 жыл бұрын
All things being equal and with the alignment done properly, a longer arm should sound better due to less tracking error.
