I think originally VShojo just seemed like a company with a lot of strong individual members but not really a cohesive group (other than them being friends) but after Henya joined one thing that really showed was that other members really try to create a sense of comradery like Zen initiating a lot of collabs that include new members as well as current stream friends (Heavenly and CDawg) so it feels like the new members are getting help getting acclimated to the VShojo ecosystem. Also I think for the nepotism part, I think some people dont know that quite a few members from Holo and Niji were fairly established before joining their respective agencies so while it's not necessarily like a "we hire our friends or already known names" type like how VShojo is, already having a fairly successful channel/PL really helps the audition process rather than being a completely new and unknown person.

True, early VShojo was so disonnected, that I was always forgetting, that half of them were not indie. But in the period, roughly, between Kson joining and Silver, Vei, and Nyan leaving they seemed to be figuring out, how to actually be a group, and when Henya joined they were already on it. For the nepotism thing, the problem isn't that they do it. Most streamer orgs (which is closer to what vshojo is) only take on larger streamers. Vshojo just requires you to basically be friends with someone in the group too. It's that it's not made clear in the audition process and instead they advertised early on like they were like hololive but better (no idol stuff, basically no split, and you own your IP). People don't like it when companies aren't honest about application requirements. Doesn't matter that it's an entertainment company and not some office job. Admittedly, they still would have had drama initially, if they said you needed minimum 50k followers on a social media platform. That gets mitigated with the correct branding. So not positioning yourself as the West's answer to hololive, and instead as a vtuber streamer org.

Sometimes, that nepotism works out in our favor. Haruka is someone that would constantly do stuff with VShojo (Primarily Zentreya, but still). It got to the point that I'm sure a lot of people commented or joked that she was essentially an "unofficial" member of the group by that point. Then, one day, the big announcement that she's joining them officially and everybody was thrilled. As for VShojo's general culture, the other big thing is that they've got a track record for not only being a "retirement home" of sorts, but legitimate financial salvation for a couple of its members. Kuro was talking to Mouse one day about his finance issues and she got him in contact with Gunrun. Kuro was impressed by the effort taken to help him that rather than stay independent, he opted to join VShojo. A fact by the way, that also show's they're more than willing to be more than just their name implies by also allowing men to join. If I recall, it was Michi that was in a similar boat due to Niji screwing her over big and VShojo helped bail her out too. Any group can say they're better, but it's actions like that that often prove you're better.

I think the Selen/Doki situation and other Eastern agency debacles has made VShojo's hiring of pre-established talent seem more significant. In the case of Doki/Selen, she got big during her time with Niji, which gives management the delusional belief that they are the dealmakers, that they know whats best, and that the person behind the talent is inconsequencial. However, with Vshojo, because people like Melody & Ironmouse & Kson were already big before they joined, they can't justify such a viewpoint. This results in a much less toxic, more talent friendly environment. The company is doing everything it can do to support its talent and give them all the leeway in the world. So no matter what your view of the individuals in Vshojo are, or how it's "elitist" for only bringing on pre-established talents or friends of talents or former talents from bigger agencies given a second life, rather than fostering their own: remember just how other corpos treat said talents.

I think a lot of the reason why the company's "vibes" have shifted it because the new talents know how to toe the line between creativity and chaos. All the previous niji members that have joined seem to have an almost muscle memory like restraint when it comes to their words and actions. While VShojo received a lot of hate in its infancy, there are three things that really stuck out to me in their metamorphosis to what they are today… 1. Learned from the NuxTaku incident - I was extremely critical of how GunRun and some of VShojo’s talent handled that and a big part of it stemmed from GunRun’s lack of productive conversation between Nux and the VShojo talent. It felt like there were a lot of VShojo talent that were “in the dark” on what Nux was working on and really GunRun should’ve been more open with them about it. 2. Got rid of some of the cancers - I’ll be very blunt…I didn’t particularly care for Nyanners, Veibae and Silvervale (which is ironic that I am a MASSIVE fan of Nyanners bf Aethelstan). I actually miss when IronMouse, Nyanners, Aethel and CDawgVA (Connor) used to collab because those four together were hilarious. Getting back on-topic, I didn’t particularly like the “vibe” of these three. I don’t know if it’s just a feel that they were a high school clique, but they didn’t feel as easily relatable as the likes of mouse, Zentreya, Haruka or even Melody to some extent. 3. Signed some absolute game changers - While Kson was a very good pickup for the company, adding Henya and Matara were about the equivalent of hitting the game-tying and walk-off home runs in the bottom of the ninth. Both of them bring such a positive energy to the company that I think people are seeing VShojo in a different light. The ironic thing I get a laugh about that Twitter post of “I hope your favorite talent joins VShojo.” Well guess what…some of those talent did and now everyone LOVES VShojo considering it’s one of the few agencies out there that doesn’t rule their talent with an iron fist. That tweet really aged like milk.

Not sure if you knew this but Nyanners was originally on 4chan & threw her entire fanbase under the bus, calling them all lolicons/pedos when she herself uses a loli avatar & she is known for being a drama queen mean girl behind the scenes. Melody was one of the worst from the Nux incident as he helped her with dealing with her exploitative model artist when he tried to extort more money from her because he sold her the model not knowing how big & popular she would get & tried to charge her for retroactive royalties, but then she spewed the most hateful slander at him, calling him a clout chaser just for trying to warn other potential victims when the agency failed to do so for half a year. She never once publicly apologized to him & refuses to do so. I lost whatever respect I had for her after that. Ironmouse was also in on dogpiling on him & couldn't even bring herself to write a proper apology to him for it. Even Snuffy, who wasn't even a member of VShojo, also dogpiled on him & regurgitated a bunch of old BS about him just to spite him! VTuber things ~ one thing u mentioned was the demographic of normal streamers vs vtubers. [then VTubers being different]. It's definitely interesting cause of various factors but I can give some random perspective for people {there's a lesson at the end of this long ramble incoming}, most vtubers are casual-chill style gameplay/vibes, for myself, I aimed for a pro level competitive VTuber and looking back it definitely wasn't the move [or at least it was poorly executed cuz I didn't dial in on VTuber culture aspects and embrace that aspect of the community a bit more], I was Rank#1 Global in a game named Spellbreak, then hit top ranks in various 3rd person shooters [Top300 Fortnite Zerobuild, then top ranks in smaller BRs]. I thought I would become known over time but I was not doing the proper things to actually be a big streamer. I was hoping my skill and personality would get noticed by a big Agency one day and have a chance to become one of the 1st Pro VTubers and applied a few times to Hololive, Niji, Vshojo but unfortunately never got a response. (Now looking back, I was naive and honestly joining an agency or gaming/esport team is something that would be very nice but not a direct goal anymore) Realistically I was/still am small [well I'm currently gaining huge traction thanks to becoming a Marvel Rivals creator, i had 100s of people watching me a few weeks ago for the closed alpha, but what allowed this success was I DIALED IN ON Fun VTuber Vibe.] When i blew up in a different game, MHUR, I went for top lvl skill content creator vibe with some memes and it made things too serious / too much of a joke to serious players, but it was scratching the surface of what I should actually be doing. I went into Marvel Rivals as like VTuber that was a retired pro vibe there for the fun of the game, our community & hype and it popped me off in a way I didn't expect. Now I'm in the calm before the next storm with the closed beta & going to continue to be more adaptive [and eventually move on from just having a main game niche but 1 step at a time] Realistically majority of the people watching a VTuber are not there for the gameplay, you can be one of the best in the world or better then every1 but still not be as large of a creator as a normal streamer, (people are watching you [vtuber] cuz ur cool!) so keep this in mind for competitive style games. Lesson here is being successful in VTubing there are things that are "meta" but there are things you can do to be different and hit where you want to hit. You can have a niche and make adjustments while looking to expand past it. Sometimes doing so you have to dial in on certain factors.

Glad you're finding success in VTubing 😁 I agree that showing off your personality is just as important as showing off your skills when it comes to VTubing. Nazuna needed a hand up. It's been said Kson demanded they get her as well as a requirement for joining. It's a shame she got in that fight with Delutaya. The husband stuff was always going to go bad the minute MafuMafu decided to use JP Keemstar to help throw her under the bus to save his career.

Vshojo has definitely gotten way better over the years. Sure they've had their setbacks and set of questionable moments. But now, they've become a place to give past vtubers another chance at life, and it worked.

the only problem I have currently is that they've for lack of a better word become stagnant nothing really new/exciting seems to happen there anymore, its one of the reason I think Mata decided to start her podcast series with Mint (Who I'm gonna say now will 100% join vshojo in the future)

This was something that I unconsciously felt over time. Like the frog sitting in a kettle that is slowly boiled or Marge Simpson realizing Fox gradually became hardcore pornography. Back when Vshoujo debuted with its initial roster I felt indifferent at best and would actively ignore them at worst. I didn't really vibe well with the initial roster. Henya really was the turning point when 3 members left at once, it felt like a shot in the arm of traditional vtubing from Japan for the predominantly western style vtuber agency. Personally though, I'm a big fan of Matara and she seems very keen on trying different things on her KZbin channel that go past livestreaming on twitch and posting vods on KZbin. I think the wider view of Vshoujo is transforming much like how Matara is dragging Bricky kicking and screaming into the vtuber side of content creation for collabs. For context, Bricky's channel can be described for its long-form video essays but within his interests of things like shooters and 40k, he is vocal about his aversion to anime. So for Matara, someone by definition anime, works so well with him, I think that says alot.

Being able to keep your IP even if you leave Vshojo is so incredibly huge...to the point where I will randomly ponder how the members from other agencies are ok with completely losing themself once their time at the company is up. _"to the point where I will randomly ponder how the members from other agencies are ok with completely losing themself once their time at the company is up."_ They're not. As Kson said, losing that is traumatizing and inherently exploitative and any VTuber who willingly walks away from everything they built should be seen as a massive red flag about the company they left.
@Zijkrial5 ай бұрын
@@ElliotKeaton In that sense, absolutely. My pondering mostly comes from the fact that they sign a contract knowing it will happen, and ultimately nothing lasts forever.

This kind of company makes me happy and I don't blame them for only taking in people that their people know. Even if it makes your company smaller in the short run, it also secures for most part that you mostly get people that aren't a detriment to the company and creates a more healthy atmosphere with people knowing each other which helps prevent cases of isolation for newly recruited members. This is how new standards in an industry is set, starting small until it explodes and changes the status quo.

9:37 yet according to vtuber wiki, mint is still an indie. but i guess the "help/assist" part is partially true since matara carried the expenses to have mint's model re-rigged for her to use

A lot of fans think Mint is on a 'trial run' to see if she'd like to go with VShojo full time; we'll likely find out her final decision once the podcast winds down. It's actually not a bad concept, sort of like working in a temp position before coming on permanently.
@MunkkyNotTrukk5 ай бұрын
@@CarlFox I wouldn't be surprised if Mint eventually does join VShojo, she already has her foot in the door somewhat with how close she is to Matara, plus Haruka, Geega and Kson would collab with the VShojo members all the time before they officially joined. I'm not saying she needs to join them or anything, but it would make a lot of sense.

@@CarlFox I've had my suspicions of that since day one. It's only increased since Mint was the only non-VShojo in the walk around @off-kai. That being said, right now my money is on Mint & Sayu getting announced at the same time because 1)they all met at off-kai 2)Sayu already expressed interest and the roadblock stopping her has seemingly cleared 3)best timeline

One thing about VShojo is that I personally have heard nothing but good things about Gunrun. People have talked about how he goes out of his way to help them and in some cases even when they aren't part of the agency. I believe Kuro even said Gunrun offered to help him figure out his tax problems even before he joined. Also, Michi said she was just going to sign the contact but VShojo refused until she had a lawyer look over it when they could have easily been predatory about it. Michi and Kuro have also both said the company offered to pay for mental health care, speech therapy and other things. I may not have been around during the period of drama but they seem to be a good model to follow now with how they support their talent. And as far as people being outraged by toilet humor and sex jokes this might sound weird to say but... grow up. It's not that big of deal and if you don't like it just don't watch but there's no reason to send them hate over it. It's not limited to VShojo and that kind of humor is extremely common especially on the internet.

Just calling it vibes is a bit discrediting towards the members - Geega did a lot behind the scenes to get the members to properly interact with each other and communicate more openly while Zen & Mouse tried their hardest to make new members feel welcome and have them fit in. VShoujo acting as a normal western talent agency instead of a VTuber agency can only assist the members existing drive to make their group work and the overall change in culture definitely came from within. Also, I feel like the new members' speaking out for the management and everything they do changed peoples' perception from "the talents don't need VShoujo" - a sentiment that was stated in a previous video too - to a more positive opinion now.

As someone who watches some Vshojo talents but has never been into the JP vtuber idol model, this whole take is interesting but so strange to me. Like the view that hiring people who are established is nepotism. To me that's the opposite of nepotism, they built themselves up before joining. Anyway, it seems like VShojo has benefitted from the audience getting to know their style and changing their expectations, more than anything else. Also, there is no mention of Zen in this video but I feel like Zen has become happier and really contributed to welcoming the new talents.

Vshojo is like what Super Smash Bros. is for Video Games, but for VTubers. They inherently invite already established characters and allow for them to interact with each other. They have unexpected/hype “DLC characters” and that’ll make you become interested in who they’ll invite next. Literally Super Smash Bros.

VShojo is a traditional talent agency, as opposed to an idol agency. Both are agencies. In this case, VShojo exclusively manages VTubers, so yes, VShojo is a VTuber agency. They just follow the old standard talent agency model, as opposed to the more-recent Japanese idol agency model. In a traditional talent agency, the agency works for the talent. In an idol agency, the talent works for the agency (similar to a modelling agency, because that's basically what they are, and that's where they got their start). Pretty simple.
