Great Video. I have been to Sheringham and didn't realise there was this beautiful reef just offshore.

Hi Chris, good to bump into you at the lifeboat station last week. I just watched the Reef, some really nice footage in there, I see what you meant about the visibility - really good for the uk. Best wishes Clive

Wow. great video Chris. I'm based in Peterborough and have wanted to dive that reef for a while. I'll raise it with my BSAC club. What underwater kit do you use?
@christaylorphoto2 жыл бұрын
Thanks again! I generally just snorkel it - super shallow at low tide but it does require very calm conditions and we generally only get a weather window where the vis is worth snorkelling a handful of times a year in July/Aug/Sept.

Although the divers do go out further (shore or boat dives) and often dive and get good results when it's too stirred up inshore.

I’m a soldier in Norfolk and I would love to get out snorkelling in places like this - if anyone regularly goes I would love to come with. Novice and new to snorkelling I would love to get out with someone with knowledge and experience.

I’m also a novice.I live just north of Norwich.Would also love to experience this. If you don’t get a better offer I’d be up for accompanying you.

@@martinrooth4644 awesome mate - I’d love to . Il make an email contact I won’t mind putting on here. It would be cool to go with a few who know the best locations. I’m going to kayak and paddle board it this summer too

Is there a way to know when visibility is good?
@christaylorphoto7 ай бұрын
Just needs very calm water for 2-3 days minimum. If you are able to use one of the surf forecast apps like Surfline and see that Sheringham shows as Flat for a few consecutive days then there’s a chance the vis will be good but it only takes the slightest swell/offshore wind to stir it up again.

Thank you, Chris. Eye opening! Is it possible to predict the most likely weeks when it’s possible to see the reef in all it’s glory?
@christaylorphoto3 жыл бұрын
Not really, it just needs to be very calm for a few days but only takes the slightest swell for it to be all stirred up again. I generally try to give a bit of a warning when it might be getting good on my FB page if you wanted to follow?

Outstanding work all around. I must ask how you got the macro shots to be so still? I use a TG-6 and there’s always a bit of shake in each video. Is it auto-stabilisation or later editing?
@christaylorphoto Жыл бұрын
Thank you James! Depending on the camera abilities I use in camera stabilisation and shoot at 50fps so it can be slowed down to half speed in edit and then also will sometimes use stabilisation in Final Cut Pro to further smooth it out. The GH5 is great for this as it has IBIS plus the lens has IS and I can shoot 50fps at 4K so there's lots of options for taking out some of the shake!

obviously it’s a marine conservation area but does that mean you can’t take lobsters or crabs by hand?
@christaylorphoto7 ай бұрын
As long as they meet the minimum legal landing sizes then I believe you can.
