Says a lot that this dude has been in the sport for 20 years, is 37 years old and is still one of the top contenders in the best heavyweight division in mma.
@craigyp6 жыл бұрын
ApeHead damn right bro, and that’s also post usada too. Look at how the likes of Browne, rothwell, Bigfoot and Barnett went from competing to completely vanishing once they came into play. We all know it’s not the old version of the reem we used to love anymore but even so he’s still hanging with the elite players of the division and beating his fair share of them too. Even if he fails to get the ufc strap I’ll still always consider him one of the all time greats
@MidwestDIY6 жыл бұрын
I am on the fence here, on one hand he added to MMA history on another his PED history, it is like Lance Armstrong, on one hand cancer survivor and other PED user. I would prefer someone to be a champion who did it the right way without cheating his opponents (and their families indirectly).
@craigyp6 жыл бұрын
Arlan T. That’s a fair comment, difficult to argue it really but I guess all you can say is he definitely wasn’t the only one who was doing it, and since usada he’s definitely not the same fighter anymore but he is still competing with the top of the division where quite a few others who were also caught have faded into the distance. A very good point though mate

what i was thinking. i think the guy sees himself as a human embodiment of mma and perhaps believes giving that up would be some kind of betrayal of his identity. having said that, the guy had made buckets of $$ and doesn't have anything left to prove (IMO) even w/o the belt, sadly. should lay the gloves up soon. still seems 100% mentally coherent so he may luck out and keep healthy for a good while

The Overeem who fought JDS beats every man in the world
@craigyp6 жыл бұрын
Aaron Cooney Cooney I fully agree bro! It’s a damn shame he didn’t fight the exact same way against Francis cause he drew jds in and kept safe on the backfoot throughout the first round with a couple of good shots landed, then round two he got so loose and relaxed once he knew jds was slowing down and the left hook to end it was about as clean and crisp of a left hook you’ll ever see. Without doubt that was the best and most relaxed Overeem we’ve seen in the ufc. Yet to see him fight so calmly and confidently since then though which is a real shame cause he’s good enough to beat anyone in the division if he’s on his game like he was that night.
@craigyp6 жыл бұрын
Висша сила! Благодаря ти! Thanks man, and I fully agree with you too there. I was actually really surprised he did stand and bang with him so early in their fight, maybe when he got the clinch early and couldn’t move him at all he then panicked a little cause maybe that was the gameplan, but even so he should of at least tried to carry him towards the second half of the fight. Having seen what we’ve seen now with Francis if they do ever meet again down the road then I’m sure it would be a completely different fight

Full respect to Alistair, with the benefit of hindsight now it’s a real shame he let himself get involved in close exchanges with Francis early in round one cause if he’d stayed on the outside and kept safe then his far better cardio would of let him take control of the fight after the first round once Francis had emptied the tank, and he’s the best technical striker in the division for me so he could of really showcased that in second and third rounds and at least won a decision. And let’s not forget he did drop Stipe in their fight, and in that split second Stipe sat up if he had followed up with ground and pound rather than the guillotine then he would of taken the belt that night I think. The fact they’ve just given DC the next crack shows you how much of an ageing and stale division the heavyweights has become, but I’d like to see him get one more eye catching win over a top 5 guy then have once last crack at the belt before calling it a day at the ufc. Just struggle to work out a decent fight for him to take next though. Regardless he will always be one of the best heavyweights I’ve seen and a true legend of the sport.

Craig P Cain vs Alistair is intriguing.
@craigyp6 жыл бұрын
Ian Stultz yeah I agree bro, and very much a winnable fight for Alistair given all the injury’s and time out cain has had. If there was one matchup you could make in the division for Alistair then that would be the one. It makes perfect sense for both men really I think. If he beat cain then he’d get an immediate title shot no doubt about it! I’m just not sure if cain is ever gonna be fit to compete again and if he was would his team throw him straight back in with an active guy like Alistair right away after the surgery’s and long lay off?
@craigyp6 жыл бұрын
Ian Stultz when you look down the rankings it’s really hard to see anything else other than what you just said really bro. He’s beaten werdum, stopped hunt and jds, and although rothwell beat him he’s on a long ban from usada currently and before that jds dominated him. So it’s really hard to pick a worthwhile fight for him other than cain I think. I can see them matching nganou and werdum together next though definitely, but neither of those fights make sense for Alistair at this moment in time so who knows what they’ll do with him next
@noseystooges93186 жыл бұрын
Ian Stultz Yes it is. Idt Cain can beat him
@craigyp6 жыл бұрын
Nosey Stooges yeah me too, a prime cain could definitely beat him but his best days are gone now, too many injuries and inactivity have caught up with him, so if Alistair could get that fight next he’d be catching him at the perfect time

We can see here friday training, one day before the fight. First boxing rounds. throwing combos with left hook at the end. And what do we see? Drop on the right hand/side. What did we see on fight night? KO by left hook, with dropped right hand. WHat you do in the gym, you do in the fight. If your coach was persistant he would school him on that. Not "yes man" type mentality...
@markovendetti97046 жыл бұрын
Overeem can beat Francis next time especially since the world knows Francis is only strong for 1 round and he hits very hard thats all he has.
@johnbishop25366 жыл бұрын
But Overeem isn't a wrestler and when he clinched up with NG he immediately reversed it and NG wasn't blowing his load Lol I know how it sounds.
@markovendetti97046 жыл бұрын
john Bishop But overeem is a very good wrestler I can tell you haven't seen all his fights since the late 1990s. You know he won a European ADCC world title back in the early 2000s. The man can grapple son!
@johnbishop25366 жыл бұрын
He can wrestle but he's base isn't wrestling, I never said the man couldn't grapple but when was the last time you saw Reem go for a single or a double leg.... it's been a while but he does have pretty good takedowns and trips from the clinch as he used against Bigfoot, Struve and Brown but he was way stronger than all of them but against as guy bigger than him he had no answer. ADCC is a competition for very good grapplers preferably BJJ competitors but that doesn't always mean you can take a dude down who is stronger and possibly 20 lbs heavier assuming that NG cut to make heavyweight.
@markovendetti97046 жыл бұрын
john Bishop He doesn't matter of he takes you down with a double leg, single, or body lock trip as long as he does it. I dont get your point. Who cares how a job is done as long as it gets done right? And who cares if it's not his base. GSPs base isn't wrestling either but his grappling is the best in MMA especially in his prime and he use to take down pure wrestlers becuase competition wrestling and MMA wrestling is different.
@johnbishop25366 жыл бұрын
There's not a lot of people out there like GSP lol
