@@markdavis7397 Bills > Packers Only reason packers were in NFC chip was their o-line + Aaron rodgers. Chiefs would've blown that Packers team out without Bakhtiari. They just make it look so easy that people think all their opponents are pushovers, but Chiefs can literally push over 31 teams when they choose to. 25-1

Knowing Andy Reid he's probably gonna know the Bucs are preparing for this concept and have like 5 different counters for it. Like what he did after the Browns 4th down play, he did the same play vs Buffalo on 4th down, except Tyreek became the decoy and they got it to the back in the flat for ez 1st down. Brilliant mind. I'd say the one design issue with the play is the risk of Mahomes getting hit when you read these people up on the line of scrimmage on a RPO, rather than reading linebackers. (but I'm not an expert maybe reading d-lineman has some benefits in RPOs)
@steveaustin2686

Yeah, it looks like the Bucs were moving in the late RPOs to head off the successes in the early RPOs the Chiefs had. Now, do the Bucs do the same when the Chiefs run it Sunday? Will the Bucs be looking for other changes in the RPO to offset what the Bucs were trying at the end of that game? Definitely going to be interesting. The Chiefs have tackles injured and/or out and the Bucs have safeties injured and/or out, so it will be on the backups to step up. The Bucs are definitely underdogs, but can win if they minimize mistakes and play well. Hoping for the Bucs to notch their second Super Bowl win. Go Bucs!

After the first time they ran this RPO, Bucs DC Todd Bowles made a great adjustment rolling the corner to outside leverage every time Tyreke motioned to run the wheel. Andy Reid countered on the last play having Tyreke run a wheel and then a comeback, knowing the corner is going to be playing with outside leverage. It's a chess match fellas

@yeahr1ghty
@yeahr1ghty 3 жыл бұрын
Typically teams only run their "good" plays multiple times, the average play is not usually repeated in a game unless it is a very basic play like inside zone run or mesh. So it depends on the scheme and coach. For the Chiefs, using the same play 5 times is incredibly rare, they probably average less than 2 repetitions of every play because of how many plays and variations they have. Greg Roman offenses, they call the same play 3-6 times a game frequently. Runs or passes, their playbook is fairly simple and Roman likes to repeat play calls.

How does this work with blockers... The left side tackle is 3 yards up field when the ball is thrown. Are they going to get called for that?
@zachary56
@zachary56 3 жыл бұрын
I think there's a common misconception about how the ineligible receiver downfield rule works. In the NFL, an ineligible player who is *continuously blocking* an opponent has no restriction on moving downfield before the pass (as long as they started blocking before moving more than a yard downfield). It's only if you aren't blocking anyone that you aren't allowed to move more than a yard downfield. Note that this rule is different in the NCAA, where it's a hard limit of three yards past the line of scrimmage regardless of blocking, with one exception: when the pass doesn't cross the line of scrimmage (e.g. a screen pass or shovel pass).

Obviously none of us are in the room, however, are full on passing concepts as RPOs like this typically read as a whole or individually? Meaning, is Mahomes keying a particular route of the RPO based on a pre-snap look and then pulling post-snap, or is it all taking place post-snap?
@JudislavHolmski
@JudislavHolmski 3 жыл бұрын
He’s first of all reading the defensive end then reading all of the routes to see which one is most open. Which is very hard to do so fast. Because if he’s not quick enough his linemen will be down field because they will assume the balls been handed off

Looks like you have to make every open space look occupied to the QB & watch then swarm to the ball. The key is not to tackle the ball carrier right away. The first defender there must hold the carrier upright & the 2nd/3rd defenders there must strip or put a helmet on the ball to force the T/O. Just like defending against the double wing or zone run, every defender MUST occupy their area/space. A young defense likes to immediately pursue & get themselves out of position. This says that PM is not too bright as he is not running actual plays. Let's see how he would do against a Ray Lewis/Ed Reed led defense.

Honestly I feel like this play has great potential, but Mahomes didn't run it all that well. Instead of just a slant or bubble screen, it's basically creating a Flood on the backside of a runplay. A "high", intermediate, and underneath read. Normally a Flood concept would take too long to run - not even Hill can run a Dig/Out/Cross in less than a second - so you usually can't pair Flood with a run-option. BUT, if you use jet-action as KC does here, you can get a WR threatening fairly deep on that outside wheel. A jet wheel, flat by TE, all paired with a run off the "strong" side. The 1st play the SMB is way too pressed up and gets beat by the wheel, but the slant and flat are open too because of how aggressive Winfield and White play the run. The Bucs really just butchered the entire play on this one and all 3 pass-reads were open. The 2nd time, as mentioned, SMB is much further off the ball so he can easily stay on top of the wheel. Plus both Winfield and White are much less aggressive this time, which is why the run works so well. This was 2nd-and-3, so anyone calling this 6yd run a "win" by the defense is wrong. The first RPO scared the Bucs into playing more passive the 2nd time, so now they get burned by the run instead allowing an easy 1st down conversion. So the Bucs lost the first 2, but the Mahomes blows the next couple. On the 3rd play, Cockrell is playing off against the wheel so that's shut down, and some excellent weak-side coverage by Lavonte David shuts down both the slant and then Kelce in the flat. Spoiler alert, not many LBs can shut down a SWR slant and account for an elite TE like Kelce in the flat. But as noted in the video, if Mahomes handed this one off instead it likely goes for a big gain. They had 5 on 4 in the box and with Barrett peeling underneath Kelce to rush Mahomes there's no read-defender to make a back-side tackle on the run this time. The 4th play the Bucs were in man with Cockrell on Kelce, trailing him as he cross underneath the OL into the flat. Mahomes should've recognized this and dumped it to Kelce, who likely could've manhandled the smaller corner and converted the 1st down. Instead he hands it off, which isn't a terrible decision if Suh doesn't blow the play up as detailed. With 5 on 4 in the box again, this should've been an easy run for a 4yd conversion on 3rd own, if Suh doesn't blow it up. But he doesn't get a chance to blow it up if Mahomes recognizes man and dumps it to wide-open Kelce in the flat. The last play is also on Mahomes. This time it's Devin White instead of Lavonte David trying to play both the slant and the flat, and he does it poorly. With the corner playing so soft and White blowing his assignment, this ball should've gone to the WR slant. White overplays the flat* hard and instead of just waiting 1 second for the slant/curl to open up Mahomes forces it to Hill on the sideline. The bottom line on this one is, by this point the Bucs had obviously adjusted to the play - really they had figured it out after the 1st time. Play off on the outside to eat up the wheel, have a LB cover the slant and then feed down to the flat if the ball is checked down. This leaves them vulnerable against the run, as seen by the 6yd conversion and the 4yd conversion they would've had without Suh blowing it up. Both runs would've gone for >6yd 1st downs, and Mahomes should've handed it off a 3rd time for another substantial gainer. What Reid should've done is tweaked the route combo on the backside. If the CB is going to play so far off and over the top of the wheel, then have Hill just run to the flat and square up for a screen instead. Have the WR throw a block on the LB responsible for the flat, and then peel off into a spot route behind him once he fights through. Have Kelce come around and just screen block for Hill. Yea it's only a 2-read option this time, but it would capitalize on the corner playing so soft and the LB playing soft to cover the slant. Throw the screen to Hill with Kelce blocking, and make the D respect it and force them to come up and press again next time. Then you throw the Wheel/Slant/Flood back at them. Don't run the exact same routes 4 times a game. They need to adjust like the Bucs adjusted. He opened the video talking about how on this type of play, the read-defender is always wrong. Well after the defense adjusts to better cover your option play, you need to adjust your play design so the defense is always wrong again.
