Speaking from 2022. What was on center stage in Houston in 92 is now at the head of the Supreme Court in 22. We thought we defeated them, but in our ignorance they festered.

It feels like the progress of the last 40 years is getting erased, when people thought they were vanquished the religious right was merely dormant, and they now once again hold a seat of power at washington, and god only knows how far they'll go.

Okay, One of the main goals of the Religious Right was to elect family valued conservative politicians who would appoint family valued conservative federal judges(Including Supreme Court Justices) who would in turn over turn Roe Vs Wade, bring prayer back to public schools and rule against gay rights. In other words, turn America back to family values. I wonder if they feel betrayed by the fact that a lot of the federal judges who are over turning gay marriage bans were appointed by REPUBLICAN presidents(Reagan/Bush/GW Bush)? I long for the day when Christians are no longer held hostage to Republican lies.

ORYIN Right, you have clearly not read or understood history ,your reason and basic morality is based (wether you like it or not) on a christian foundation (the poor being worthy of alms, murder being wrong in its own Right, sanctity of Life, the Right to equal Human Dignity, common Humanity,Human Rights ect) The foundations of science are basically Christian (they posit an ordered world, too ordered for it not to have been designed meaning created). I am a Catholic and i hate only people as much as the next man on Gods Earth. Grow up people dont get along, sorry son that is a part of being a human. Trump has actually appointed some good judges when compared to His predecessors so i guess religious conservatives had to wait for a Non religious three time divorced man from New York to finally give theme the results that they've expected from Reagan.

This is widely known as one of the most polarizing conventions, even among republicans. Reagan's speech at the convention (which is not shown) was one of the few that was full of hope and not hate. It is funny to read peoples reasons as for why Bush senior lost the election. It wasn't the religious right, it was Ross Perot. He won almost 20% of the vote, which almost overwhelmingly would have gone to Bush. People forget that Clinton won with only 43% of the vote and never got 50% ever.

I know McCarthy was a conservative Republican - and his name has become synonymous (right or wrong) with the demonization of others. There was no 'hate spouted' from these clips; they were simply viewpoints from a largely conservative Christian perspecttive. Groups like PAW, of course, take those clips and try to paint a broadbrush of demonization.....and, judging from your comments, I guess it's worked with you.

Nope, they certianly dont share the GOPs views (establishment views) on Trade and Immigration, maybe on Guns but everything else is the Christian Right that still delivers most Republican victories. I find it tough to view 'liberalism' - particularly in today's society - as a 'capitalistic ideology favoring DECREASED government encroachment on personal freedom.' The Democratic Party wants to get its hands in every single facet of our lives - from health care to education to religious expression, etc. Most of their viewpoints center on the redistribution of wealth and a 'government can cure all' philosophy.

Jesus is the only hope for America look up sodom and Gomorrah and see what happened to them with their acceptance of homosexuality. Jesus died for the sins of all people so our sins could be punished without us suffering anybody who denies Jesus will burn in hell, you say that’s intolerant but it’s the most loving thing you’ll ever hear. God must punish our sin because He is just if somebody murdered your family you’d want justice it wouldn’t be right for the judge to say “I forgive you you can go free” so why do you expect God to do that? Your sins can be pardoned through repentance and faith Christ but they cannot be overlooked.

@BobReidy Maybe the Religious Right is dying out, but nevertheless the party is still shifting to the right. Both McCain and Graham used to be "mavericks", and today they are both getting pushed to the right by the establishment. For instance McCain introduced that Immigration bill a few years ago, and now he is backing away from a lot of the principles in that bill. Graham wants to change the 14th amendment, doesn't like "centrist" republicans to me, no offense.

You're right about H.W., but I think W. is intellectually lazy enough to be more or less on board.

W is a conversion story, they do happen, its not an intellectual thing its a sort of sudden moment sort of thing, i believe he had a form of conversion event to be an evangelical Christian (methodist i think). In any case im not sure what an ex presidents Religious beliefs are to do with any of this. If a man is to be motivated by something why not good old fashioned methodism? Its more robust than most political ideologies.. and id rather politicans were motivated by deeply held spiritual beliefs than Greed, or lust for power.

No, really, it doesn't. If you listen to Glenn Beck, and believe what he says, you might think that, but it's not the case. No one wants to trample on your religious freedom (examples?), taxes are far lower than they were under 'conservative' Democratic administrations like JFK's, and no one is suggesting the government can cure everything. A public option in healthcare is not taking away your freedom, it's giving you more freedom. You would still be able to have private insurance if you want.

@BobReidy Yep, I definitely have found a new respect towards both moderate republicans and libertarians for there stances on social issues. I also do hope that your right and that the religious right is dying. I can definitely tell there is a change, the stuff that was being said in this video couldn't stand up today, not at all.
