Very interesting with some good historical information. It seems like sections of the ROW must still be owned by either the railroad company or LA Metro. It's obvious from the overhead images that there are no permanent structures on many sections of the ROW. If LA Metro owns the ROW, I wonder if they have any plans. I wonder if they could convert some of these abandoned ROWs into BRT lines like they did with the G line, which runs on an old train ROW. That would be a great use for them and would cost a lot less to build and could be built much faster than a light rail line. I know that part of the Southeast Gateway line will use an old existing ROW along Randolf. Thank you so much for doing this and showing the Abandoned Rail website. I already bookmarked it. Great job on this video.

Great vid. Love to see ancient Los Angeles. I appreciate the hard work. Why was it called the "Air Line"?

The term "air line" referred to a direct rail route before commercial air travel became popular. Part of this line ran in the median of Exposition Boulevard, but there was no true "street running" except in Santa Monica.

Most of the Santa Monica Air Line was turned into the Expo Line.

There is the abandoned ROW in the middle of Santa Monica Blvd. It's obvious where it goes through West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. A lot of it is still contiguous from the last time I saw it. I would love to see a light rail line here that could connect to the proposed North extension of the K line. Take it all the way to the Westside, where it could also connect to the proposed Sepulveda line.

It would have been like Honolulus Skyline system, but with a street-running portion in Santa Monica. It might of had little worse frequency but was similar quality.
