These people are such douchebags about this stuff. How is this video commercially damaging to them? Having some idea of what the record sounds like might actually persuade more people to buy it. My parents have been doing just that every year since the late 90's, and neither of them play PC games or listen to Trent Reznor's other music. They just like the tense mood it creates, and generally recognize a talented musician when they hear one. The CD they use isn't even the full game, it's one of those $10 demo discs.

I recall a post John Romero made on his website forum many years ago saying that the tracks originally didn't have names and instead they should be called the name of the Quake level they are first heard. He didn't know where the names came from but said they weren't legit. Trent Reznor either did come up with the names then after all or otherwise adopted them because they have floated around the internet for a long time now.

I played the GOG release when it first came out and it worked out of the box... but the game was pretty swiftly updated to make it a little harder, likely due to all the copyright stuff :/ I'm fairly certain the game includes the CD Image of the original release that you can pull the audio files you need from it though - people go into more detail about it on the forums there too. The game with the music working really is worth the hassle. Also, Quake 2 with music does work out of the "box" on GOG at least

I still have my original CD. I have played the game many times and listen to the soundtrack on its own many times. This is one of my favorite soundtracks of all time in any category. It is also a great Nine Inch Nails album in its own right. I've always felt that way about it. It is nice to see it finally be recognized as an official Nine Inch Nails album and not just a game soundtrack.

Quake was what started gaming for me, so it is my beginning in a lot of ways. Always loved this soundtrack as well, and I bought this vinyl record as soon as it went on sale and I'm not disappointed. I personally can't hear the difference between the record and the CD audio, but it is just damn cool to have it on a vinyl record and makes me feel like i've now had the "complete" Quake experience. Speaking of Quake experience, it is also quite fun but incredibly intense in VR. Playing the soundtrack with Quake, multiplies that intensity for sure. I can only play it for about 15 minutes or so of Quake in VR before my brain is just so fried from the experience that I have to stop and relax. I can play calmer VR games for hours, so its not like I don't have my VR legs - this game is just that intense. If you have VR on PC and you love Quake, VR is a must try.

I was maybe 13 or 14 when quake was released. But it was on a cover CD on a UK Metal Music magazine that I got to try the demo of Quake for the first time. Along with musical tracks like Type O Negative Wolf Moon. If you put the CD in while the demo of Quake was running then it would use the cover CD tracks as audio for the game which was amazing to me at the time. I probably still have that CD somewhere, not that it would work on modern machines. ^_^ I still remember all that because the demo for Quake combined with Wolf Moon just blew me away as a young teen. Certainly put an impression on me. Enough that I bought Quake when it came out. Now I am 42 and barring anything unforeseen, then I am half way to the grave. hahah ^_^

Dust particles on the record immediately after being removed. 5:28 You can hear the dust pops at several points like at 10:35 (obviously go back a second or two). And for what? This is ELECTRONIC music, created digitally. You're not losing information with a CD of this. There's no gaps to fill or stairsteps to smooth the way an analog recording of singing, or violins, or steel guitar gives you.

Ooh nice! It's a wonderful piece of kit, been using it to record all sorts of things every day. I love how good15 ips tapes sound on there, no noise reduction needed.

@@LGRBlerbs nothing beats R2R at 15ips, I used to be cheap and record at 7.5ips, but the difference is incredible

@@LGRBlerbs Noise reduction on 1/4" tape at 7.5ips is a lot like anti-aliasing at 8K. I mean, it technically does *something*, but will the listener notice? Probably not.
