The Repair Show: The "Amish space heater" troubleshooting/repair

Today we take a quick look at an infomercial classic, the "Amish" space heater! We also find out some things along the way they did not tell you in the commercial..
This was suppose to be up yesterday but the upload had failed and I am trying again.
Edit: I meant shaded pole motor @2:12, my mistake. And I also did a proper termination with a screw on plug after the video.

My dad gave me one of these over 11 years ago and it has always worked fine. But for some reason it won't reset when I tried to turn it on this year. I've only had to replace the bulb's once. I think I will try taking it apart and blowing it out before I scrap it. It could be full of dust and dog hair? It's got sentimental value since he passed away and I love how it looks 💓

Just what I needed ... have one just like it, given to Me. Plugged it in and smoke ... I will disassemble and blow it out with a air hose and try again. Thanks for your Video!

Thanks for your comment, please be careful and make sure there is no other fault inside the control circuitry, it could present a fire hazard

I was scratching my head too. There are four screws on the inside of the cabinet that hold the metal housing to the wood. I got those off but then still could not slide the heater out of the front of the cabinet. Finally figured it out by the video that you have to bend the brackets straight and then it will slide out from the front. Hope that helps.

How do you fix the flame thing I've got a new thing that's supposed to fix it that I bought for we cannot get into the bottom part to see the flame thing we see the cables going down into it but we can't get into the bottom of it

I just got a broken one in perfect shape. I blew it out and it works except I can run it on high. It trips the rest button. I might have to check those wires

A 'true' mish heater isnt like most space heaters. It uses an intermitent heating coil in between two pieces of copper sheeting using mostly the retained heat in the copper and not firing the heating coils all the time. Made my own more efficient version at home and it raised my electric bill for 3 months by 11 to $12 and never used $500.00 in fuel oil like past 3 winters

how do you replace the bulbs in this fireplace? The heat and fan work but the light has gone out for the fake flame.

I have one of these someone gave me and it will work all day on low but as soon as I put it on high it shuts off any guesses and is it worth fixing bc it’s the only thing I have and not much money thanks

It's tripping the thermal cut-off, probably dust contamination.

I replaced the cord with a 12 gallon air conditioner cord. Thi s after replacing a burned out outlet. Still blows the breaker. It's going into the trash.

I tuned in because I had the same exact one but the screen is not lighting up. I do not see flames in the background although the heater works just fine. But you didn’t pull back so I don’t know if your screen was working and the flames were visible. Mine or not they are extremely dim you can hardly see anything.

I have that one and it beeps when I plug it in, but that’s all. The reset button does nothing, no resistance at all. Any ideas?

I got the exat same model, at least the main board is the same, but it stop to work. The remote is not working, and the button also. I gave a visual inspection to the main board and nothing is burned. Also did a small diagnostic with multimeter and nothing wrong. But it is no more working. Anybody encounter a similar issue, any idea?? Thx

You can access them by removing the screws in the lower panel.

You can turn the light on for ambiance, without heat, there is switch for it.

Don’t buy these heaters there junk overpriced inefficient Chinese junk the cabinet is the inky thing nice about these
