I’m in two minds about how it’ll go on Thursday. I’ve a feeling they might pull off a shock result and then go on to lose/draw with Hibs or whoever they play after us. Another part of me thinks this might be Sevco’s “chucking Mars bars at the directors box” moment. People old enough to remember the January 1994 game at Celtic park, will know what I mean. If Celtic go to town on them and get our noses in front early on, it could turn really nasty, even by ibrox standards. I get the distinct impression that loads of them are at the end of their tether and Celtic racing in to an early lead might just be the tipping point for major disorder in the stands. Whatever happens I hope our players just do a professional job because we’ve an equally important league game coming up 3 days later. At the end of the day, all that’s at stake for us on Thursday is 3pts, same as yesterday against St Johnstone and the same as against St Mirren on the 5th

14pts clear and rangers in absolute disarray so by all logic there is only one outcome on Thursday but I just can't help be reminded of the 1990's (the first half of that decade in particular) when rangers had a much better side than us. We were regularly finishing 4th or 5th in the table, struggling to even qualify for Europe but from 1990 to 1996, we had 12 visits to ibrox in those six seasons (1990/91 to 1995/96) and in those 12 matches we only lost twice! For whatever reason, we always just seemed to do quite well in what (on paper anyway) was our toughest game of the season. This was in an era when Motherwell were regularly finishing above us in the league! There was no real disputing that rangers were a much better side than us. The current rangers side are giving me proper 1990's vibes. Their best domestic performance in the last month was in the cup final against Celtic when they could easily have gone home with the cup but for one bad Igamane decision or a penalty kick missed/saved in the shootout. They ran us as close as it is possible to run us without actually winning. Yet the same group of players cannot beat St Mirren or Motherwell and are scrapping 1-0 wins at home to the likes of Dundee.... It is so reminiscent of the 1990's except the tables have turned. It's a strange situation because on the one hand, the league is a forgone conclusion. Over the course of 38 games, they just cannot live with us. They threaten to drop points in pretty much every league game they play whilst Celtic have barely conceded a goal, let alone dropped points. But on the other hand I do think they are more than capable of rising to the occasion in a one off match and drawing/winning against us and I actually wouldn't be all that surprised if they did beat us on Thursday. But as I say, it wont change a thing in terms of the destination of the league trophy. if they do claw back three points on Thursday, they'll have been donated back to us in the next game or two anyway
@rambojp7318 күн бұрын
Can you tell me the years when Motherwell were regularly finishing above Celtic? Cheers 🍀
@Mantis_Toboggan_MD.18 күн бұрын
@@rambojp73 They finished above us in back to back seasons. 93/94 & 94/95. Maybe "regularly" was a poor choice of word but that wasn't really my main point anyway. My point was that we weren't very good in that era and rangers were a much better side. In those two seasons that we finished behind Motherwell in the table, our record at ibrox was 2 wins & 2 draws

It's easy a fan to say go for the throat from kick off everytime we play Rangers but a 14pt gap we have the comfort to really go for them as tactical sense -if we resoundingly beat them it could feed into next season never mind just this one -things have aligned that we can emphatically put them back in their box for many a day -and if we play pants and grab a draw it doesn't matter and even if we have a real off day which i think we'd have to have to slip to a defeat -we'd be 11pts ahead -we can't lose in the great scheme of things because no chance they'll stuff us but we can.seriously win if we thump them and for the first time in fair while i think we can go to Ibrox and bang 4 or 5 in

There has better be a strong police presence on hand, even though there will be no Celtic fans there. If we go two ahead in the first half, say, I would expect some sort of reaction from the stands. One thing I notice from watching all the meltdown videos, none of "them" bring up the point that they can't afford to sack their manager, its like total denial. I read a month or two ago that Rangers were in the process of applying for two different loans, one for four million and one for eight. If they sack Clement, that probably takes care of the first loan, so they will have to compensate a manager with borrowed money. This would leave them looking for a manager who doesn't need a lot of pay, and then give him the second loan to buy players? Either way or situation they can't buy players without selling and finish the season out with the current squad. If Clement can't figure out who to start and is now hooking players at half time, why would you let him buy new players? Not my mess to worry about, but its fun to watch. I think Taylor will start. Schemichel, Johnston, Vickers, Scales, Taylor, Hatate, MacGregor, Engels, Maeda, Kyogo, Kuhn. Hatate or Bernardo is the hardest one to pick.
