@@WillJL20 Sure they did, read the book "Trouble Boys" by Bob Wehr. The lead single, "I'll Be You" from the album "Don't Tell a Soul" was a final attempt to create a hit single. @@Jamie-pm7we Plenty of successful bands have had hardcore alcoholics and that didn't stop them from commercial success. As a matter of fact, sober bands would be the exception to the rule. And the comment I was addressing claimed "they didn't want to be huge." That's completely untrue.

@@ronchapman6525 I don't know, having read Trouble Boys I'm inclined to think their focus on achieving a hit wasn't something they were particularly passionate about, but instead pursued because they thought it was what they should be doing. If they really wanted to be huge then I doubt they'd have dropped F-bombs on SNL, shown up to industry insider events completely drunk playing parody sets, or do music videos that didn't even show their faces. The Ledge should’ve never been chosen as the lead single by Warner Bros on this album in my opinion. Even outside the unfortunate political atmosphere around the song during time of the teenage suicide pacts that the label couldn’t have predicted, it’s just a bad choice. It’s melancholy and honestly kinda a weak song. Never Mind should’ve been the single and i think the album would’ve done much better regardless of the mess of political baggage that came with The Ledge.
