I feel like we're so divided, from races, religions to education. Moving forward, idk what's best for malaysia anymore and how to fix this.

The reason why we are not unite because of language barrier. A Malaysian is when they can speak Malay language. Lancar or not doesn’t matter. You’re not just a chinese or indian, you are Malaysian. By born and by rights.

I love how Alvin mentioned that it took him many years of hard work to perfect his Bahasa Melayu. His acting in Cik PA Tuan Ash surpasses the lead actors (sorry but that drama is ridiculous but Alvin single-handedly carried it).

It’s devastating that the people in Malaysia are so divided. Maybe less in areas that consist of diverse ethnicities but it’s important to acknowledge the sad reality. I believe that every Malaysian needs to break the habit of only mingling among the community of the same ethnicity. My experience in Chinese primary school (6 years) being a Malay student, taught me valuable experiences. I learned to not only respect the differences in mannerism and culture, but also to be part of their culture. My Chinese friends treated me equally because I never thought of alienating myself from the circle. It all comes down to your own willingness to see other humans as humans despite the differences in culture and religious beliefs. In college, my closest friends were Chinese too (which we remain as close friends until now). Point is, if you’re willing to look past certain aspects like racial stereotypes/ difference in religion, you can build genuine relationship with just ANY human being. To progress as a functioning member of a mixed society, it’s important to practice and live respectfully with diversity.

i love alvin, but this one 23:44 right here should not even be a question. Of course a Chinese Malaysian need to be fluents in Malay language since Bahasa melayu is a national language of Malaysia. Bahasa have been spoken in this land since thousand years ago, so have a guy that have nationality on this land, but cant even speak a national language correctly is kind of unacceptable. Its unacceptable but still, it shouldn't make fun of. But you must understand why some people make fun of it. Chinese people in Indonesia and Thailand can speak the national language very fluent, that you can't even tell that their have chinese ancestor. Its not the same with Malay try to speak Mandarin, since theres no reason for Malay peoples to be great in Mandarin language. They not live in Mainland China. Even lot of chinese singaporean can't speak fluent mandarin. And Its not same when matsalleh have broken Malay. Since matsalleh is not even born here. Their are foreigner. Chinese Malaysian is not a foreigner, so their should not act like a foreigner. I think a lack of bahasa is one of the reason our country is so separated. So i totally agree with Amelia in this one. Especially with vernacular school, i think people should think about it whether its beneficial or not in developing our country.. a diverse country. Amelia kind of have more understanding in this topics since she is neither Chinese or Malay. Very open and no biased from amelia at all. But i still love Alvin. I hope you see my comment as an opinion, not confrontation. I just want to give my little view on this topic hehehe no hate

If someone says that melayu is rasis...i can say that persons are "blind". He did not know who is Tun Mahathir. He is not a malay..he became Malaysia prime minister for so many decade...and if malay are rasis..I dont think they will accept hin as prime minister of Malaysia..if all non malays accept malay language as their first language it shows thatt he or she is proud to be Malaysian...Someone might say chinese is my language my ancester language..my answer is why many of those who live in America or in western country or even in Malaysia or Singapore can't speak chinese at all..This is just my thought..i look at indonesia as a good example to start with..the choice is in our hand no one to blame

Perhaps consider educating yourself before posting such an uninformed comment. Why would non-Bumis be proud of being Malaysians when we’re treated as second-class citizens? DBP is doing such a terrible job of being the governing body of the Malay language. They can’t even settle on the grammar rules. They keep flipping-flopping every few years. Ask any Malay language teacher or professor, and they’ll share their frustrations with you. On top of that, DBP is doing a poor job at translating important information into Malay, such as scientific studies. Why would we want to learn a “useless” language? It’s a waste of time. As for the cases of Indonesia and Thailand, you need to read their histories. The atrocities their government committed in the name of forced assimilations. While many Asians in the West were bullied out of speaking their own languages. We non-Bumis will never be loyal to Malaysia if we are not given equal rights. We have absolutely zero problem with swapping our Malaysian citizenship for one that gives us equal rights.

So many things here that's up for debate. I adore Amelia's Studio Sembang but she comes off rather privileged and sheltered here. As an actress you don't have to agree with the character because you are ACTING. Say you're playing a serial killer, ofc you won't believe everyone should die. Also, growing up in a multiracial environment but attending a private/international school here in Malaysia would still only expose you to one kind of culture; upper class Malaysians, because only the rich can afford these schools. That's why Amelia was shocked when she came back into the industry so I don't think it's fair for her to judge and I'm glad she's now aware of it. I agree you should speak a language with whatever accent you have but if you speak English with an accent in America for instance you'll get bullied too. If you go to any country and speak their language with a heavy accent you'll get made fun of. It's not just a Malaysia problem. I agree with Alvin that it's a personal desire to fit into the society you're in that motivates you to change, not necessarily the teasing itself. About vernacular education. I too think it should be abolished BUT some things were set in stone long ago, and I don't think the society is ready for that kind of change (yet).

And there have been many cases of Malays and Indians being bullied in SJKC. Amelia's brother was lucky because he's literally half white. When you're different from others you will get picked on. I got isolated too at an English centre for being the only Malay in a place with only Chinese students. Some even threw racist remarks.

okay here’s some thoughts after watching this, it sounds like this is a “Malay” problem. most of the problem you guys facing is somehow causing by Malay people, so just like you mention in the video we have the power to decide and make our own decisions, why still entertain and partake in so called toxic, old-fashioned, Malay Industry since it’s that bad. so why still entertain Malay audiences ? and i’m not saying this to make you racist or something just why put yourself in this position if you complaining later on? and also i love Amelia, i think she’s so smart and beautiful but she’s giving main character energy, LOL, like okay in real life nobody actually really waiting for you. like the world doesn’t revolve around you. everything moves when you had your “moment”, i’m not saying you can’t say NO just sometimes we also have to remember other people is living too and we are intertwined with each other if you like or not. so this is not saying you’re wrong this just a reminder. toodles! xoxo
