During last years, it seems that Cafe Racer bikes had a second chance.
Some kind of rebirth.
And the questions are: Why and when?
What caused this new beginning of Cafe Racer bikes?
When exactly it all started happening?
These are the questions, that you will see answered in this video.
I hope you like.
Enjoy.

I think the love or rebirth of the cafe race comes from seeing them as kids in the 50's, 60's and even the 70's. Now that we are older and can afford them we want that lost love and connection with are youth. And most of all, they are just so COOL!

Thanks for the video!

Yes, we can!

Just an interesting piece of information. In my opinion the café racer revival was of course brought about - as you said- by Ducati with the mh and later on with the 2006 sportclassic 1000 (at the time the brand was already super famous and their products received much more attention compared to other brands), but the first real modern version of a café racer was in 1992 by Moto Guzzi with the Daytona 1000 and later on with the beautiful 1999 V11. The LeMans version of the v11 is a head turner even today, very classic lines and fairing.
@RACER_TV
@RACER_TV 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I remember when the Daytona 1000 was launched. But the wheels and the front headlight, were still too modern to have some retro cafe racer flavor. To be honest, I think moto guzzi V7 racer is the key motorcycle, that caused this cafe racer rebirth. But thank you my friend for sharing your perspective. :) Cheers.

Where I live in Florida, U.S.A, there has been a resurgance of cafe racer bikes. Irritatingly though, it's the "hipster" crowd. I've seen many vintage japanese cafe bikes, with the rider wearing a british style driving hat, flannel shirts, long chain wallets, etc. While it may sound kind of snobbish, personally I feel they are diluting the true cafe scene and lifestyle. We used to have a shop called "Ton Up", that specialized in cafe style bike, parts, and accessories. Sadly, it only lasted about two years, because of the lack of interest. We would gather on saturdays, and ride to different bars and such, and meet back at Ton Up. Too bad really, because I personally loved it! Riding my '75 Kawasaki Z1b cafe...

A few weeks ago while I was walking on the street I heard an exhaust note that I would call "perfect" for my taste. I immediately turned my head. There she was. MH900e. One of the best looking things created by human beings. It's so beautiful to look at that I felt myself in another dimension. And if it was a girl I would get the ring and propose at that very moment. I wish there were more bikes like that.

I think that the motto that captures really well what contemporary bikers are seeking is Triumph's slogan, "For the Ride". Maybe in a soulless and virtualised world that achieved so many impressive technological goals (sometimes reminding a dystopian fiction) a realistic and simpler bike is something on which the 'spirit' still can manifest itself. Why we choose motorcycles? Because they're fun, fast and dangerous, because we become, upon a bike, a mythical beast the "mechanoceantaur" and, probably, there's nothing so powerful as that ancient feeling. So, we really do it, in short, 'for the ride' and nothing else.During the late seventies, all the eighties and a good part of the nineties maybe a too computerised mindset had forgotten the simple pleasures of life and motorcycling. I salute the new cafe racer creed for what it brings back to real world and to real man. Biking is related to passion and proper skills. Everything that we do that has those ingredients and aims the excitement of the senses turns to be an aesthetic experience. If it's so, it's hard to not recognize it as a kind of art. That's what cafe racers (the type of bike) stands for, and for me, that's what Racer TV is all about. But there is one doubt that remains, when you assembled the images of the THX 1138 cop bikes together with the sentence "(...)you have to make the choice, you can buy it, or you can built it." what did you mean? Is it a phrase that teases the viewers inclined to buy ready made cafe racers instead of building them to feel as robotic as those characters on the movie, or do you think those are really cool bikes and outfits who deserve to be among the beauties shown in your video? Whatever is the answer, you've been done a good job indeed. Regards from Brazil.

+felipe dourado cáurio Thank you my friend for all your kind words. By the way, your english seems to be very good.Congratulations. So about your question on "you can buy it, or you can built it). No be honest, is just the conclusion of something real. No second sense in that sentence. Because if someone likes Cafe Racers, there are only 2 options. Buying it, or building it. None of these options is right or wrong. Because some of us don't have the ability to build a cafe racer, therefore, buying it can be the right option.(or not)Is just a choice. :) Thanks for sharing your perspective. Um abraço.

Two days ago, I was riding my Thruxton Ace Cafe edition and I just love it. I used to ride modern sport bikes (mostly Honda's) for nearly 16 years, but all these technology got me bored. When you take a forgotten motorcycle and make it unforgettable. With a new life greater than its original. Its a custom built racer as unique as its builder. Built in yards sheds barns and dinning rooms. To each its own flavor and character. Like the secret of grandma's cookies used to make a motorcycle. A mixture of speed and beauty. A unique combination of sounds smells and feelings like no other. This is only just a small part of what is a cafe racer.

They are here to stay, but kind of assuming new forms, more street fighterish (Remember that more recent basis for CR projects tend to derive from streetfighters from 2000 and on..that were the "modern CR"); and as production cafe racers are an obvious item on every brand nowadays... Kawa w800, guzzis, yamhmy... The only brand lacking is suzuki... and Honda... that CB1100 is way overboard (and overpriced)... there should be a CB750 Four at around 9k€... I have a Kawa W650, and I am building it... as a cafe racer is never "built". ;) Ride safe!

I believe the 2 major factors were left out: An ageing population that no longer wants or needs a 200CV motorcycle and growing speed enforcement. And obviously, the economy. A new Spor bike, like the new R1, is worth close to €20.000, far to much for the average 20+ year old. A Cafe Racer is an inexpensive way to look "cool" Please notice that it is not just the Cafe Racer movement that's getting stronger, it is also the likes of Vespa Clubs and classic bikes, to name a few. Alex Ferreira I agree with everything you said my friend. Curiously, i also thought about the ageing population as an important cause. But this was not enough to start everything. What i was looking for, is the "Spark". The point that brought back the cafe racers. And in my opinion, was the Ducati MH 900 E, and the fact that in 2000 there was a General appetite for the retro look. Thank you for sharing your opinion. Abraço.

I have managed to start a small business building café racers and custom fiberglass fairings, cowlings , seats/pans, fuel tanks and fenders that catch more cooling air. Every piece is hand made to custom fit that particular bike. CHILLY DADDY'S CYCLES TREME,NEW ORLEANS LA

Brilhante! Você sintetizou tudo. As motos de desempenho perderam o charme. Todas parecem um Transformer. Cheias de adesivos e poluição visual. Ainda assim as Panigales 1199 e 1299 me encantam. Rsrs. Abraço. Vintage

Its probably the younger generation appreciating them more due to the growing streetfighter scene. Since they share some resemblance in a lot of builds I've seen lately. Its like how the younger generation didn't recognize or appreciate the Nissan r34 skyline until fast and the furious came out lol. Just a thought

norseman4080 I respect your opinion, but i see Cafe Racers as something Genuine. From my experience with my little Honda Cb 125 Cafe racer, it is easy for anyone love a cafe racer bike. Even kids love Cafe Racers, without knowing what it is. Believe me. This is a genuine thing, and they really came to stay. Thank you for sharing your opinion. Cheers.

At 3:12 "...the general lines became more of the same..." This is because our motorcycles move thru an atmosphere...if the previous years style is un-aerodynamic, additional bodywork to cut the air will happen...sorry if it offends your eye...but aerodynamics are a constant, a fact, an immutable law of nature.

I know that 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' but some of those Ducati's look great. I was watching Jay Leno in his garage, and he said some regard the Ducati as a Harley that's gone through College! There's a very nice Ducati that had been in a barn for 20 years, and has been resurrected into a very nice 'Café Racer' by Rasio Motorcycles' in Back Street Heroes magazine (Oct 2015) www.rasio.cc Keep up your good work RACER TV

There cheap until you rebuild the carbs, and suddenly the fix is more than the bike's value, they are problematic for a novice & old technology may be a challenge for a beginning rider. You see as many choppers on the road as you do cafe racers, far better to look at, than ride.
