I'm happy to know such great man exists in our world as an iranian who is obsessed with history and politics i admit his knowledge on our geopolitical history to present day is ridiculously accurate and he knows more than many politicians who are actually inside our government robert kaplan's speeches never fail to amaze me

I'm from the US and I agree with you 100%. Kaplan is probably the preeminent geopolitical historian of our times. As an aside, Persia was a truly great empire.

Wonderful presentation by a great geopolitical analyzer. My favorite author in this area and one I enjoy sharing about as a full time educator.

This man is a genius. My all time favorite quote (from "Earning the Rockies"): "We struggle diplomatically and through our military deployments to prevent the kind of domination of the Eastern Hemisphere by a rival power that we ourselves enjoy in the Western Hemisphere. This is an amoral endeavor that achieves a moral result." Truer words have never been spoken.

"...so Taiwan is kinda like Finland, and the whole planet is kinda like the Weimar Republic. Anyways some stuff happened, and then Hitler happened. Hitlers just kinda happen sometimes. In conclusion the end times are near." -- Robert Kaplan

Weird, huh. Wonder why you put quotes around your words and then attribute them to the speaker.

Well and informative presentation, although I would like to see an bigger picture of what has happened since partitions of Aryans 5000 years ago I've read a book about that which says it was a geological between groups of Aryans or indoeuropeans which ever you have, it was about Zoroastrians(iranian groups)and those who believed in gods(Europeans)which they had different names in their respective culture like Odin in Norsemen or Zeus in Greek and even the Greek _persian wars had it's roots in that argument and it has evolved into many different forms since then but it's been same at it's core.

If I believe what I read in the comments, then I'd be impressed by how smart everyone is and frighteningly arrogant they are. Or, I'd be impressed by how stupid and ignorant the writers of the comments are, and still be astounded by their arrogance. Speaker makes good points on Putin.

Nearly an hour recounting a rote history of 20th century maxims. Kids, this is what retirement can look like if you hitch a ride on the sweet coat tails of the American Imperium.

You should start a KZbin channel. You seem to know quite a bit. But, I think you lost perspective, this is supposed to be a primer talk, not an advanced anything.
