Thank you for continuing to talk about neurodiversity and making it seem so... normal. I know everyone has their own reasons for using fountain pens, but as neurodiverse myself, I have a theory - besides using writing as a therapy, I believe I am drawn to fountain pens because of how much I can customize and control the writing experience. I am extremely sensitive to anything sensory and using a fountain pen means I have control over each aspect involved. Colors, texture, weight, line width, everything. In a world that easily overwhelms me much of the time, it's great having that one small piece exactly how I want it. So again, thank you for all that you do. 😊

This is going back to last week’s spotlight on the Pilot Parallel Pens. One of the best videos on using these marvelous pens was made by Rachel Goulet probably 10 years ago. Well worth checking out! I love using the 1.5 nib and the 2.4 nib for addressing cards and writing birthday good wishes. These pens always start writing immediately, even after being left unused for weeks. That’s a great feature for a pen you don’t use daily, but want to have “at the ready.” Thanks always for your Pencasts! They’re terrific! Mary Kerr

At the start of the year, you guys had a question of which color will be popular for pens in 2023. I thought, "I hope it's the year of green." Since then Sailor have released the Golden Olive pen of the year and Mockingbird, Visconti has released Lotus Garden, Benu has released their new years pen, Pelikan is releasing a green M800, and there have been some green preppys, not to mention the green inks that have come out. I personally have bought two green pens and two green inks this year. Bring on the green!

I've been writing with fountain pens only since August 2022. Before that I wrote a LOT with rollerballs and ballpoints. Listening to you guys' answer made me realize that I still write with my fountain pens like I do a ballpoint. The hand cramping also perfectly described what happens when I write with a broad nib. I've already practiced moving mostly my hand and arm (versus just my fingers) and could feel and see a noticeable difference already. Thanks a ton!

On letters: a lot of competitive debaters advise that you take out all the vowels in a word in order to make a recognizable shorthand! As long as the first and last letter stays the same, most words beyond 5 letters are pretty recognizable.

Drew, you’re right about caffeine affecting people with ADHD differently. Caffeine is a stimulant, and stimulants are one of the major classes of medications that can be helpful for ADHD. 42:04 I get that reference. I’m a fan of the Office Ladies Podcast and listened to that episode last night. I love that Drew has never spent over $300 on a pen. I appreciate the responsibility of this. Not that it’s wrong to spend more, but I’m trying to imagine the restraint. Although I expect being able to try more expensive pens as part of the job helps. Then again it could lead to temptation. I have a question about that. I’m part of Club Turkey Hammock and recall Drew owns a Montblanc. I need the Dwight Schrute story on how that happened.

Hi Brian and Drew. I have to say I love the pen cast and hanging out with you is like having favorite beverages with old friends! Brian, I too, have just recently found GPT and had some fun with it. I Asked it, "In the Goulet pen cast, what does turkey hammock reference?" This was the response: "The term "Turkey Hammock" is a nickname for the Tomoe River paper that is often used in fountain pen notebooks and journals. The name "Turkey Hammock" comes from the fact that the paper is made in Japan but is named after Tomoe River, which is a river in Florida that is known for having many wild turkeys and hammocks (i.e. areas of elevated land with trees). The paper is highly regarded among fountain pen enthusiasts for its exceptional thinness, smoothness, and ability to showcase ink colors well. The Goulet Pen Company, which produces the Goulet Pen Cast, is known for carrying a variety of fountain pen-friendly paper products, including those made with Tomoe River paper." I am not at all sure on the accuracy but thought I should share the opinion of our robot overlords anyway. Until next time, 'turkey hammock' and write on!

It’s funny when Brian and Drew speak about the German inclination to link all their words together to form new ones. Some years ago when I worked for a German car manufacturer, Munich based engineers created a “gewichtsreduziertealuminimvorderbau”. Try saying that in technical presentations. It is a “weight reduced aluminum front end” which ultimately ended up being shortened to “GRAV” in North America.

Hypothetical: Aa much as I'd love to be able to speak with anyone, I'd go quiet. I love to read. And I could still LISTEN to my audiobooks when I wanted to rest my eyes. 📚 Plus, I text too much to give up ALL reading and writing. 😏 Phones are a huge part of our lives now. You would have to have someone set up your phone for you, adding pictures to all your contacts so you know who is calling you. You wouldn't be able to read the titles and captions on KZbin and other social media sites. Everything would have to be pictures.

I would absolutely pick reading and writing over speaking and understanding speech. Between ADHD and autism, I already have issues with auditory processing and when I’m tired speaking takes a lot more effort. Reading and writing are also my primary hobbies. And then there’s the fact that my favorite person lives on literally the opposite side of the planet from me, so we’d almost never get to talk if we had to find times we could actually speak out loud to each other back and forth.

I have a problem with broad pens also. I find I likes stubs better. But with broad I need lined paper because the spacing is usually larger. With broads my writing is too crowded. Writing position hints would really help, but can say Journaling on your lap isn't going to help your penmanship. I'm with Brian I have a t and L in my last name and i's in my first so I've crossed my L's and not my t's and dotted anything but my i's. That usually happens when writing fast. Glad you did writing samples on all the nibs on the 743, now I want a FA nib, and I'm not a lover of boring black pens. Drew, glad you had your birthday your way! Hope you got your carpet really dry, if you have padding, they are basically giant sponges, so many times it is best to replace the wet padding because they can be near impossibly to really dry or you will get musty odors. Is there anyone on staff who has great handwriting that you could feature? Your team might be a source for handwriting modeling. Thanks, guys, for another informative and entertaining video! One question (totally pen-unrelated): When you speak about drywall, are you talking about sheet rock? Or is that something different?

I'm the same way as Brian when things go sideways. I think it's just that once you've gone through enough various crises, you kinda skip right over the panic and frustration and jump right to, "Okay, right. How do we fix it?"

My B has no back line so it looks like a great looking 3. flat top line that curves into the middle and end.

4:37 Great. Now I have to divide my allegiance to Team Pie and add Team Custard. I’m not a big cheesecake fan, but creme Broulee, flan, bread pudding, and pudding (aka custard for the British) are my favorite desserts to make and eat along with pie (cherry and mincemeat are my favorites). I want to add steamed puddings (British puddings) to my dessert repertoire.

My franken pen would be an oversize pen (like a Leonardo MZG 2.0, a Ranga Samurai, or an Estie Oversize)with a piston-fill mechanism, a Jonathan Brooks resin, a Leonardo ebonite feed, and a #15 Pilot soft medium nib.

Silver has a higher density than stone. Silver has a density of 10.5 and marble has a density of 2.7. So the marble is actually ligthening the pen up... ;)

It’s been days since I watched this pen cast and I’m still walking around using “yes captain aquasky” in real life. I think it’s going to stick. If I ever find anyone that understands the reference, we’ll be instant friends 😂
