This movie is so notorious for its comedy, people forget how incredibly nonstop nerve-wracking intense it can be. Dan O'Bannon (ROTLD, Alien, Dark Star) was an under-rated genius.
@jackbruno9534 жыл бұрын
Comparing it to some of the other Zombie films it definitely comes off as a comedy especially the over the top performances
@chriswyble1434 жыл бұрын
@@jackbruno953 agreed, for the most part. It's just that none of the comedy is of the, say, Will Farrell-fall-down-go-boom variety. There are no tension breaking gags. The laughs are derived from the outlandish hopelessness and the sheer panic of the cast. Hell, half the lines of dialogue are yelled on top of each other. It's an often hilarious good time WATCHING the events of ROTLD unfold, but the way it throws traditional zombie rules out the window and turns them into an unstoppable, cyclical force, laughs, outright, in the face of any fanboys' "zombie apocalypse survival strategies".

Saw the movie poster and assumed it was another Romero-directed "Dead" film, only to be VERY pleasantly surprised at an extremely different (for then, especially) take on zombies. Great movie that manages to succeed in being as funny as it is scary and, at times, extremely dark. Truly, a masterpiece!

turns 35 today! Both funny and scary in equal measure. Romero and screenwriter Jon Russo shared a collaboration but parted ways since legally Russo had the rights to use "living dead" as opposed to "dead" each time Romero made a zombie movie. The zombies in this movie are from several different ones; the usual ones eat human flesh while the ones here feast on brains and actually talk. Pretty neat how they looked into the mindset of the undead and why they need to feast. It's got a great punk soundtrack to boot. Director Dan O' Bannon would at times be difficult to work with on set but the movie thankfully garnered enough money and cult followers to staying power. Still has great makeup effects, dark humor, and great gore.

Cult film of the eighties, a zombie movie but let's say "sui generis" , a really horror but filled with black humor. It is difficult to effectively combine the horror and comedy genres, this film does it very well and is both disturbing and funny, always in the sense of black humor as already said. This movie have another great merit: the soundtrack. Really spot on, with both lively and atmospheric pieces, perfect for the gloomy setting. One scene above all that perfectly combines music and scene from the film is the legendary one of the crematorium, with the great actor James Karen and a song by the legendary Rocky Erickson.
