The true story of fur trapper Hugh Glass, who was mauled by a bear in the wilderness, at modern day Shadehill Reservoir, South Dakota. He crawled back to civilization, at Fort Thompson, South Dakota (Formerly known as Fort Kiowa), six weeks, and 200 miles, later. Now, that was a REAL MAN!
@blakebufford6239
@blakebufford6239 Ай бұрын
True! When he recovered he did try to find Fitzgerald and the young Jim Bridger for leaving him for dead. They even took his POSSIBLES BAG which trappers carried their flint and steel to make fire and his knife. That really pissed him off. He found Bridger but forgave him because of his youth. Fitzgerald joined the U.S. Army and they wouldn't let Glass kill him, however they did make him give his rifle back to him. Glass also did not (as far as anyone knows) have an Indian son. Hugh Glass's luck ran out a few years later and he was killed by Indians.

Alejandro Iñárritu also directed Amores Perros (2000), one of the best dog centric movies ever filmed. And he directed Babel (2006), a film of stories about how everyday lives interconnect on a global scale, starring Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, and Gael García Bernal. Definitely check out Amores Perros when you can.

DiCaprio more than finally earned his Oscar for this masterpiece. Tom Hardy also delivered with his casual psychopath Fitzgerald. Jim Bridger would go on to be quite the legendary mountain man himself, Glass would later be killed with two others in 1833 by an Arikara war party.

“The Revenant” is an existentialist survival drama that literally goes through your bones and takes the viewer on a hellish journey through ice and snow. Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy are outstanding. DiCaprio absolutely deserved an Oscar (plus Oscars for Best Director and Best Cinematography). The filming must have been extremely tough. Leonardo DiCaprio: >> The weather was definitely the hardest. Sometimes it was so cold that the cameras wouldn't work. But the filming lasted so long that spring came at some point. It was the warmest year in Canada since weather records began, so suddenly the snow started to melt. For some scenes, we had to move the entire shoot to the other side of the world and finish shooting in the snowy south of Argentina.

My favorite reactors! Great job, as usual, thanks! I don't remember if it's mentioned in the movie, but the "Ree" Indians are "Arikara" American Indians. Pronounced "Ah-REE-kara". So the trappers just called them "Ree's" (plural). Maybe you already knew that...if not, now you do! Thanks for letting us enjoy this movie with you, and God bless you!

If you ever get a chance read about the life of Glass. I read that after this incident he had another time in his life where he was scouting for a Army unit that came under ambush by Indians and everyone was killed but him. I don't remember how he made it out of the ambush but he had the same issue where he had to walk for many miles to find his way back to the Army Base. Its amazing how he survived so many crazy adventures. People where tough in those days.

One thing that I do like about this movie, Tom Hardy's character whilst yes, he is "evil". He was scalped at a young age I'm assuming, by Natives, which makes his "hatred" (more like fear and paranoia) of them through trauma understandable. Everything he does in abandoning the boy stems from a response to his trauma after seeing the camp being attacked, and immediately wanting to avoid them at all costs.

As a person I detest Di Caprio, he's a hypocritical, condescending, champagne socialist elitist. However...there's absolutely no question that the guy can act. I thought he should've won the award for Wolf of Wall Street to be honest. However, as much as I can't stand him he DOES deserve to have the Oscar. It's a truly fantastic film. Hardy was also fantastic.

From what I've been told, the reason you play dead with a bear is because bears like to eat rotten meat. That's why bears love trashcans. The bear is going to chew and tear randomly on you a lot until it thinks you are dead. Then walk away to let your body decompose/rot. This when you want run away because the bear will come back later. Though, most of the time bears avoid people. However, there is some very rare cases where a starving and desperate bear might attack and just keep eating you. This usually happens because the bear is trying to survive and prepare for the winter.
