Most pension schemes currently have a premium that increases with your age. Also known as an age-rising premium. That means the percentage depends on your age. For example, if you are 26, your premium may be 9%. And that of your 10 year older colleague 12.1%.
Soon that will change.
In the new pension system, everyone will switch to a flat, age-independent premium. This means that every employee who accrues pension contributes the same percentage of his salary for his or her pension. Suppose the employer in the example above opts for a flat premium of 10%. For a younger employee, a higher premium (+1%) and for an older employee a lower premium (-2.1%).
Reverent operation
Switching to a flat premium can have negative financial consequences for people who have been accruing pension for a longer period of time. After all, you can build up less than before. Do you belong to this group? Then luckily you don't have to worry. Your employer can choose not to transfer this group to the new flat premium. This is called the respectful effect.
