Chihshang is a rural township located in eastern #Taiwan, near the Pacific Ocean. It comprises only 1% of Taiwan’s rice-growing area, but surprisingly it has won first place in national rice competitions three times in a row. As a response to the entry of Taiwan into the WTO, the people of Chihshang mobilized to build up a geographical rice certification mark and promote organic farming to achieve healthy land and sustainable agriculture.
They are determined to protect their landscape of rice fields from development for generations to come. They believe in the pursuit of perfection, quality over quantity, and collaboration, and seek to reestablish the lost pride of the local farmer.
