The slice serve off the drop serve is very effective, especially in the wind. It works if it's deep or if it's short, and can really handcuff beginners and intermediate players. It can make it difficult for advanced players to consistently return deep.

Great video! As a newbie to PB, I've been using a volley serve and not always successfully. I did practice to drop serves yesterday & I seemed more accurate with them and now knowing all the rules, I think I'll switch over to this serve!

Can you take a few steps before you make contact with the ball on your serve? Or do you have to be in a set stance?

New to PB, using drop serve. Do I aim my feet towards direction of serve? Serving from left side is ok but serving from right side always out of bounds. Same footing left foot at angle towards left and right foot parallel. Thanks

I enjoy a lot of success by keeping my feet in the same relation to the rest of my body. My left foot is perpendicular to the target line, my right foot is in its natural position. I drop the ball directly in line with my left foot. By doing this I can count on the direction of my serve. And, it sets the table for my hook serve and top spin. my reducing the number of variables I have more control. Simple.

Even for advanced players, a drop server makes a slice serve possible, allowing you to really make a lot more variation on your serves to confuse your opponents.

Maybe someone can answer this: when playing a few days ago, there was a guy using the drop serve and his feet were behind the Half of the court he was serving from, but he was dropping the ball behind his partners Half of the court. I know that the rules are that you can drop the ball either in or outside of the court, but can you drop it in your partners court or behind your partners half of the court?

Have any of the drop serve rules changed? A friend told me they heard that dropping the ball from head height is no longer legal. I can’t find any official information to confirm that.

So I was also told this rule but honestly the lower you drop it, the lower the serve so I’ve gotten really good serves from dropping it from my belly button down

You can also let the ball bounce more than once

Dropping a Franklin 40X it only bounce up around knee height. The ball you are dropping almost makes it to your waist band.

Yes the rules recently changed and you can not toss the ball up on any serve.
