The RIGHT Way to Plan a Disney Cruise in 2023

We love Castaway Cay, but I’m on a campaign with Disney to make the beaches more disability-friendly. (Those sand roller wheelchairs just don’t cut it.) A great idea would be for Disney to designate a section of chairs and umbrellas near the sidewalks for guests with disabilities. This would make Castaway Cay SO much more fun for those of us who have family members with mobility issues. If this is the case for your family, too, you might wish to contact Disney with this same request!

Honestly, I hate walking so far in the sand to the beach, and I have two reasonably good functioning legs. I can't imagine what a pain it must be for someone who doesn't. I'm honestly surprised they don't have some kind of disabled beach; usually Disney is very good about such things.

Planning a trip of “firsts” for our fam!!! -first vacation in our 16 years as a fam -boy (20) and girl (6) first Disney experience AND first cruise -parents first cruise and first Disney experience in 30+😮 years O. M. G. I’m BEYOND excited. I found MUCH cheaper cruises on other lines, but NOTHING touched Disney as far as amenities, activities for both kids, and onboard “experiences” like from Halloween to shore excursions!!! Can. Not. Wait. This is THE PERFECT video for us!! Thank you!! There is so much helpful info in this video!! Lots of the random questions that pop into my head…I was really hoping to have the room decorated for the kid’s birthdays!! And was so if they would!!!

What about a future video combining a DCL and visit to the parks? Any tips on a split stay at a resort before and after a cruise? It would make sense to do one part of the split stay near AK (at the AK lodge for AK, do a cruise, and then do the other parks, staying at another resort. I enjoyed the Swan & Dolphin, but I don’t think split stays work with good neighbor hotels?

I know this is late but I highly suggest cruising after the parks if you arent from Florida. If you get flight delayed to Orlando then you wont miss your cruise. Also, having a cruise after a hectic Disney World vacation is the way to go

I did travel insurance on my last 2 trips but I'm taking a chance this time. I would definitely get it if I was sailing during hurricane season or flying. We are traveling in December and driving so while we are of course giving ourselves an extra day before the cruise just incase, I feel less likely to need it. I would also highly recomend reading the fine print on those policies and making sure to have the 24 hour claims number incase you need it or have questions.

Make sure your health insurance will cover you. People have gotten $30,000+ bills because of health emergencies in the islands ( evacuation helicopters, hospital stays).

Travel agent here- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PURCHASE TRAVEL INSURANCE!! Whether you go with Disney’s insurance, a cheap no frills basic insurance or a fully comprehensive policy- travel insurance is there for YOUR protection, no other reason. You can get cheap policies that covers what you need it to cover and nothing more for a few dollars if you really begrudge spending more but you need travel insurance. The chaos I’ve seen unfold as a result of people forgoing insurance is scary! Air ambulances alone can cost over £20,000 if something were to happen to you! And travel insurance protects you before you go too. God forbid you trip and break a leg day before you sail- insurance covers the cancellation of your holiday and you get that money back! It’s essential. PLEASE do not forgo travel insurance

The RIGHT way is to use a travel agent. Yes, you know everything so you don't need one. Use one anyway! Very likely you'll be glad you did. I won't tell anyone. Also DO get travel insurance! If you can afford the cruise, you can afford the insurance...but you don't want to afford the result if something goes wrong and you don't have it!

You also might want to consider joining an emergency evacuation club. Supposedly it will put you on a plane home when trip insurance doesn’t want to. You have to be going from hospital to hospital. It can literally be a lifesaver.

On my last cruise, I was actually able to use IMessages on the cruise ship Wi-Fi. It was on the Dream I think and I made sure it wasn’t using data. I haven’t heard of anyone mentioning that they were able to do that so I guess its not widely known or a fluke thing.

Just got back from my Alaskan cruise on the Disney Wonder. From talking with the sales staff at one of the stores it appears Disney has only just started in the last month signed a contract with Icy Straight Point. No one was sure how long the contract was or if it would become a regular stop. Not having done any other Alaskan cruise with a stop in Skagway, I cannot compare the two. I liked Icy Straight Point. However, it was the one stop where it rained the most on our trip. Our table neighbors loved the zip lines, which we did not do. I loved the gondolas which take you to the top to look around and really enjoyed the tram ride and information provided by the guide. Was more offered, most likely, but, due to arthritis, I did not take long walks to see what else was available. Uneven ground is hard to get around on. I hope Disney keeps Icy Straight Point on their stops. Cannot wait till I can take the Alaskan cruise again.

When you check in you put a credit card on file- you pay for everything with your room key and they charge you every couple of days

Oct 16-20 2023 Disney Wish will be my first cruise. I know specialty coffee at coffee lounges are an added fee, but what if you just wanted regular hot/cold coffee? Is that free or an additional cost?

Regular hot coffee is not an additional fee- it's available on the pool deck, at the buffet, and on the room service menu

Well actually not all agents are ones you “hire” there are some travel agents that cost you absolutely nothing to use them as they are paid commission via Disney. They may charge to book things they don’t commission for but for the most part it’s actually free so why not let someone else handle the details

You don’t NEED them but I found they can sure come in handy. Instead of being up at midnight a certain day to be the first to book things, they can just do it for you, free of charge. They also have tons of experience so can advise you on everything you might want to know (for me, being from Europe, I had lots of questions about tipping and things). It will be our first Disney cruise, could I have done it without a travel agent, sure, but it was a lot easier and a lot more relaxing with one for me.
