I honestly feel like one of the biggest problems for Brockhampton was that there was a huge toxic part of their fan base who refused to let them move on from the Saturation era that also wouldn’t accept anything else they did, and they were super vocal about it. On top of that, Kevin constantly announcing shit that would never actually come to fruition didn’t really do a whole lot to help save face with those shitty fans. All of the toxicity surrounding the group and the fan base along with all the trauma the guys (especially Joba) have been dealing with for years probably made it so that doing anything even related to BH was absolutely miserable for them. Honestly those dudes deserved better.

i don't understand why people didn't appreciate/like the following albums after the SAT trilogy. i loved each and every album that they put out because all of them were unique eras and showed that BH could never not produce a good album. i've been a fan since 2017 and they were my livelihood for many years. i'm sad to see that they chose to disband but it was bound to happen because they all changed and stuff happened over the years. it doesn't erase the good concerts, memories and feelings i have towards them as a band :)

I think they captured that teenage 15-18 feeling you have really well. That wonder and freedom that comes w the age. They also all graduated hs and some even went into college and eventually dropped out and i think a lot of people related to that. Dropping out of school to pursue your own dreams kind of message. Thats what made saturation such a huge hit in my opinion. ( Edit: They also talked a lot about generational trauma. I think a lot of poc related to that.)

Well said. They were the soundtrack to the end of my adolescence (found them at 17). They helped a lot of ppl in that age range go through life, process their emotions, find an escape and a community. I found myself alone a lot those years, and would play iridescence every morning because it was the only constant in my life. Despite everything that happened, I’ll always appreciate them for that

Brockhampton was my high school life dawg, need a doc or a movie about them fr. I love rewatching the vice land and short films they’ve had. Like brockhampton to pursue another media like film or even turn into their own record label. Thank you, thank you so much for making this video. Means a lot to me. Brockhampton really define the last of my teenage years (Age 17-19 years). Because of them I met a lot of great friends online who shared the same love for them. I'm grateful for them. I'm 27 now and found their music 3 years ago through Saturation 3 and Iridescence. I feel like I found them RIGHT at their peak and instantly fell in love. They were supposed to come to D.C. where I live now on St. Patrick's day this year and it would've been the concert of a lifetime. But they broke up 2 months before I ever had the chance to see them live. But I will follow the members who go solo closely and support all of their projects in the future as Brockhampton is an incredibly rare gem in the music world and will always remain a pivotal and precious discovery for me. I absolutely adore their music and will always be a huge fan

I think it’s safe to say SAT1-3 got me through my freshman year of college and the breakup that went along with it. I have such vivid memories of spending hours in the darkroom of my photography class listening to the trilogy, sometimes through a portable speaker when it was just me and my friends in there. I was a little less hot on iridescence and Ginger wasn’t my thing, but I never thought they fell off. I wish I had paid more attention to Technical Difficulties, but it was so under the radar that I barely knew it was happening before it was over. The disorganization of the group and all the broken promises from Kevin definitely put me off from the group whether I knew it or not, and I think it may have contributed to the group’s demise. I’m glad the rollout for RR was as coherent as it was, because that became my favorite album of theirs; polished but regaining their style and fingerprints. Here’s hoping the final album isn’t another fleeting promise, and that it stacks up to RR

I feel you completely, The Saturation Trilogy literally helped me through my senior year of high school, moving out, and my first year of university. I remember nights I’d be up working on homework listening to nothing but Saturation II and walking to my university campus bumping Saturation III. And days I felt out of place in such a new environment I blasted Saturation I. I’ll never forget the impact they had on music and how much they helped me grow into who I am today. A real shame after the trilogy it seemed they lost a lot of that chemistry and cohesion. The albums were good but they were always missing something to me, some kind of spark wasn’t there anymore. RR definitely was the closest I got to feeling how I felt when Saturation I-III came out.

As someone who was heavily involved in their Twitter fan base during the SAT trilogy, I think a big reason why most of the core fan base turned away was because BH released a documentary after Tonya was released. It felt very vulnerable and emotional considering they touched on everything that happened with Ameer. (From what I remember this documentary was never supposed to be released after the screenings, it was a one time screening in select theatres across the country??) I remember them talking about how betrayed they felt but after releasing the documentary they started associating with Ameer almost secretively which contradicted everything they said about him. There was pictures of him backstage at their shows after he got kicked out of the group and some of the members even refollowd him on Instagram. I also remember one of their members defending Ameer’s actions and it really upset a lot of people. They totally went through a whole “cancellation” at some point after iridescence which heavily contributed to their downfall.

bro i honestly almost cried at the end. i’ll never forget them. i first heard face as a soundtrack to some show i was watching when i was like really going through some changes and they mesmerised me. i remember listening to 1999 wildfire all the time when i got my first job. ginger came out when i moved away from my parents. roadrunner pulled me out of a horrible depressive episode. i was listening to matt champion’s burn when i couldn’t sleep. each project means so much to me, and is tied to a particular time in my life. i actually kinda loved the fanbase back when it was still small. the irony though is that by the time they decided to split, i already moved on to different things and stopped following them so closely so it didn’t like crush me as it would a few years ago. but they’ll always hold a special place in my heart. perhance they became victims of their own success.

Heard BLEACH at my restaurant job one night in 2018 and was instantly hooked. Deep dived into SAT 3 and then the whole trilogy. Them shits was progressively amazinggg. Had no clue of the the drama since I was late to the party but it was good to hear more from them in the following years. Finally learning about everything, I see the changes that I could once only hear in the music. They did what they had to do to heal in public and in private, but people do change so that's a good thing. Either way these guys were legends in their own right and I'll bump their stuff any damn day.

Undoubtedly ginger is the best album they ever produced. The sound, the visuals, the solidarity. It’s insane that so many hated something that in many ways is exactly what they were: a family of vocals making music for them not anyone else. And brockhampton fans and anti fans ruined it.

"Undoubtedly ginger is the best album they ever produced" Your opinion is not the truth my guy. I can only recall 2 songs from that album. For many, they picked with saturation. That's as valid as your take.

@michaelbwhiteside4135 2 жыл бұрын
@@crastofer that’s your opinion too, you can only remember 2 songs others remember the whole album but sonically it’s the most complete. It offers the most Vulnerability for each member on things such as their problems with RCA, Ameer, and Fame. I think it takes everything good from saturation trilogy and adds it’s own charm. But it doesn’t really matter what we think, it’s the artists favorite album. They’ve said it in multiple interviews and on social media and that’s what my comment gets at. Brockhampton was always good Becsuse it wasn’t about the fans, or money, or fame. It was about growing with your friends and making good music.
@crastofer

@@michaelbwhiteside4135 I never said I wasn't stating my opinion, so pretty pointless to point that out. Your the one who was trying to establish your taste as the sole truth. And now you're brining in their personal opinion to keep up the narrative (As if they'll ever say their favorite projects were the ones with a guy they kicked, lmao). The only reality is that Brockhampton never managed to achieve the success they had during the saturation era. That's a fact. Then in terms of opinion, to me that's because they were to immature and gave to much into social media opinions that ended up destroying the group from the inside. In a few years when they look back I'm sure they'll regret how the ameer vann departure was handle and end up derrailing their up bringing . I'll always say that Brockhamptons should have been as big (or even more) as Billie Eilish with all the strong points they had to appeal the "zoomers". But that's the difference between having people around you that can help you manage your career. Hope they can find some solo success...

i remember 2018 being an insane year as a fan. first they're on top of the world. all the talk that they'd never sign, they'd always stay indepedent. then RCA signs them. album after nearly finished album getting shown off then shelved. the stuff about ameer coming out and everybody wondering if it was true. the group still playing shows and crying on stage. and then iridesence finally drops. and i won't say it's a bad album at all cuz some of my favorite tracks are on it. but as a listener you can definitely feel the hole they're trying to fill emotionally. feels like the year just kicked them all out from under their feet and they never really got their full footing again. i wonder a lot what it would be like if they stayed on their trajectory and kept pushing out multiple albums a year including all the canceled ones, and if ameer hadn't done what he'd done or if it never came to light. but that's not really realistic either and it's the way things are. i'll always stay a fan but i respect them doing what they feel is right too. no artist has lit the internet on fire like brockhampton did bruh

A lot of people really didn’t like “i don’t like shit, i don’t go outside” by Earl or “Cherry Bomb” from Tyler and wanted them both to go back to their old sound and even release another Odd Future mixtape/comp. I believe strongly if they individually had more freedom for solo projects they probably could’ve done really good ESOECIALLY bearface. But I could be wrong saying this, but if I recall correctly Kevin made them sign a contract this didn’t allow them to do anything solo and Kevin was the only one able to drop a solo project. Again I could be extremely uneducated but from what I remember that was part of the contract and if so in my opinion would be a huge factor into them kind of “fading”.

Ordinary people can do extraordinary things. Well put. This video shows you don’t have to have hundreds of thousands of subscribers to make great videos. This is why the “algorithm“ is so bad. It doesn’t allow content to speak for itself and KZbin will often throw some attention your way, make you dance, and abandon you not long after. I don’t mean the community on KZbin, while they may think your content fell off, it’s often KZbin that gave them that idea, by no longer recommending your videos. KZbin does this to make their platform appear free, as in, they want you to believe you can make it big. It’s a lie. I think you should create a channel on odyssey, Lbry, and patroon (I don’t know of a pattern alternative off hand. People are more than willing to support content they love, and services like pattern allow people to do that 10x as much as KZbin ever could. Best of luck!

I can’t even pick a fave album… those 3 1990 songs! 😍. Also, I would argue that this was not a “fall” because it seems to be on their own terms (besides probably being forced to put out one more album). I had never stanned any artist before them. When I listen to their music in the future, it’ll bring me back to my early 20s 🥰

i first heard abt them when they dropped buzzcut and i actually started to listen to them around the time they broke up and i was pissed cuz i was so behind, and the whole reason i decided to listen to them was cuz i saw they were coming to my city and i thought i might as well get into some of their stuff. Now i realize i should've tried listening to them when i first found them since they're my favorite group of all time now.

I think some people overstate how badly Roadrunner performed compared to their other albums. SAT 3, iridescence and GINGER all benefited from the old billboard rules that counted bundles as sales- which massively overinflated so many artist’s numbers. basically only Taylor Swift and Adele haven’t been affected by the rule change- literally the biggest artists in the world. considering how huge Sugar was it was obviously a disappointment, but I think it’s more of a stagnation than a regression exposure wise. tbh it’s easily their best album for me alongside SAT 1 and iri.

Losing Ameer Vann was definitely the catalyst for the falloff, and that’s really undeniable to me. He brought a certain ruggedness to the group that prevented the “boyband” from actually sounding like one. I genuinely think if he was still there they’d still be ascending. They were better together.

I remember finding them after my first breakup (after Saturation 3 but before Ameer’s Allegations) and it was just an incredible experience. Everything was just amazing and they just hit a perfect balance of artistic intent and mainstream appeal. Then Ameer happened. And they signed to RCA. Then…they lost their bullet.

Rumour has it one time Oloff was sat next to Jar Jar Binks on a flight. Jar Jar kept kicking the chair in front of him and generally being obnoxious, nobody knew what to do. Eventually one of the flight attendants came over and asked Oloff if he would perform one of his songs to calm Jar Jar down, and when Oloff began rapping the first verse to Doing It Stealthy, Jar Jar immediately relaxed. To this day the two are still close friends.

I think they did go out with a bang. The middle few albums after saturation were enjoyable but not memorable for me, but roadrunner was a fantastic album easily the same quality as the saturation trilogy. I'm kind of pissed they cancelled the tours though, I waited 2 years of covid and it being pushed back, they even announce more tour dates, then cancel all except London for clearly bullshit reasons, then shortly after announce the breakup.

I found most of Saturation to be closer to what you’d hear on mainstream rap but on an indie label. And it was made independently. But iridescence was a masterpiece in the regard of being unique and sensitive. For me, it’s hard to top that album. Not a lot about “hoes”, objectifying women, or just being about money and flexing. And not too over the top depression catering like Lil peep or xxx (they were obviously hurt souls but t wasn’t subtle enough imo RIP both tho still talented). It was the perfect balance for me. Reminiscent of some 90s rap. Great band and great record.

Seeing so many comments about people enjoying BH during their teenage/high school years makes it very clear to me that one of the main reasons this all happened was because most of the fanbase were teenagers... it is entirely normal to grow out of everything you like when you're a teen in as little as six months, so it makes sense so many people left... then you add that to the current state of being a "stan" of something, turning into a hater after growing out of it, you know, basic fandom behavior that nowadays has blown out of proportion due to the normalization of being a stan and social media, it makes so much sense to me, esp since I watched all this unfold as a fully grown adult... all my friends who still love BH and liked the new things they did after SAT were all adults too.. teenagers today (not to sound like an old boomer but it is what it is) have terrible parasocial relationships with the people they stan and niche behavior like fandom culture has become so popular.. and the guys were all very young and discovering themselves too... a lot of teenagers looking up to people who didn't even know who the fuck they were and idolizing them, looking for perfect people who were incapable of failing... a recipe for disaster. but I also think BH will forever live as a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon and history won't forget them and all that they did.. they will indeed become legendary in the industry from now on, this is only the beginning of their careers after all.. i just hope all the people who dropped them with a bitter taste in their mouths can look back to these years and this music and let go of the bad memories they made while stanning them and remember how awesome their music was and will continue to be, there's nothing worse than having terrible memories associated with things that were important to you as a teenager :/

Huge props on this video dude. Well researched, well delivered and paced, and like your passionate but laid back VO. Two bits of constructive feedback, but probably other ppl already mentioned, would be better mic quality (if u can) + normalise volume between VO and clips. Also maybe slightly less jarring funny cutaways, maybe like just overlaying funny clips over the existing frame so it doesn't pull you out too much, but just a thought. Fr fresh and exciting, subbed and hope to see more shit from u ✌️

Honestly in my opinion it's the fans fault majority of the fan base is so toxic and they were very vocal about the fact that they did not want them to move past anything saturation related. They tried and they tried and they tried and they tried but the fan base literally would not let them evolve. Actually They did evolve but the fans did not like it. That's today's music you used to be able to have a fan base back in the day and you were allowed to grow as an artist you didn't have to drop every month to stay on top. Now if you aren't making the same music over and over again and if you aren't releasing a song every week then you fell off. I won't lie Kevin always announcing stuff is a problem too but I feel like the majority of the bullshit that went on is because of the toxic fans
