I have said this many times and I'm gonna say it again. Freestylers needs their own category where they can show off their skills without disturbing the beginners. This catagory will be diffrent where every move like reset or air dribble has its own point and the winner is the one who has the most points. It's 100% possible because we saw somthing like this in other games like BMX 2.
@the_str4ng3r8 ай бұрын
There is one. Its called accepting your wins, lol. The only thing that caused this "downfall" was purposefully tanking rank so they would be against freshies who couldn't even come close to defending themselves. All they have to do is take the W's. Easy solution that some (not all) freestylers couldn't grasp.

I think what the early freestylers were doing just became normal mechanics for pros and ssls. As more players became skilled enough to use those mechanics, freestylers had to start smurfing to produce the same level of clips. Daniel's recent goal against GenG is a great example. 5 years ago, that would have been classified as freestyling. Today, it's just a mechanical marvel in a pro match.

OG freestyling by Jhzer and MK were great. They played in their own ranks and tried to come up with cool goals. Nowadays I’d agree with the majority having high level players “clip” on someone you can see struggling to do basic mechanics is pathetic. You don’t need to drop your rank to do cool shots and tbh they make the shots a lot better watching players make smart decisions trying to save the ball. Look at Evample or Jhzer/MK recently they both grinded to SSL and made some nice 2s plays against their ranks.
@bastiaan5318 ай бұрын
jhzer and mk have been freestyling in low mmr casual lobbies since the start
@ragegaze34828 ай бұрын
That only goes so far so they have to smurf at some point, Like Evample has been doing the same freestyle shots for years now. Besides his style only works in 1s where you can freestyle regardless of rank, in 2s you couldn't do that same series. Defense just gets too good at high ranks, it's not that the freestylers don't have good enough mechanics, it's just that the defenders are too good. If you are purposely being as inefficient as possible you probably won't score. So they absolutely have to drop rank in order to hit anything more complex than what people have been hitting for years now
@thegauntlet908 ай бұрын
@@ragegaze3482Yep, and it's an actual paradox. In order to create enough time and space to freestyle you're pretty much required to be significantly better than your opponent, which means you're no longer playing at your rank. Like Vamp doing 'freestyle to SSL' is still kinda heavy smurfing but people don't complain as much because maybe they don't understand just how 'tall' SSL actually is
@seadee28347 ай бұрын
@@thegauntlet90 People don't complain about evample's freestyle to ssl because he actually tries to win his games. He's going for crazy shots instead of free open nets, but he's still trying to win, just with a different playstyle. There's a reason why the youtube series is seasonal, because he uses the seasonal mmr reset to be a lower rank again instead of losing 50 games in a row on purpose.
@rik_ko4137 ай бұрын
@@ragegaze3482 I don't see why this makes it necessary for them to smurf. If they want to freestyle, they simply have to commit to only freestyling on their account with party members so as to not throw. That way you never rank up far enough anyway because you're not going to win very much when freestyling, and you'll just end up with an unorthodox playstyle in a rank where you win 50/50. Either that or play casuals to freestyle.

It does suck that freestyling is dying cause of this change but when I was in lower ranks and getting alts freestyling on me very few of them were nice people. 90% of people smurfing trying to get clips get mad when your just trying to play the game then get toxic. Yea people would still be mad at getting clipped on and not being able to do anything but most of the time I didn’t care that much I just played to win still. Even in champ to gc you still get these high level players getting mad cause they can’t clip on you for free, then proceeding to say some horrible things. It does suck it’s dying but at the same time I can see why.

Idk about anyone else, but personally I like watching higher ranked freestyle clips from GC or SSL more than the ones where they try do as many mechanics as possible with 100 boost or even with unlimited. It's just more fun to see what can be done against proper opponents and I see it as an even bigger flex compared to getting like 6 resets and a musty and shit like that.
@alhuachi76147 ай бұрын
I also think when Psyonix made clear freestyling in lower ranks on purpose contributed to the "fall" of freestyling, but not just falling but creating the branch of clip hitting, or competitive clip hitting, also that might have been due to pros start showing freestyle shots on highest level were a thing and that people with real skill could perform them against anyone they faced. Unless other freestylers which had the mechanics but had to go lower and lower down the ranks when aerial play defending was easier because of their lack of gamesense.
@AustinGSF187 ай бұрын
To be honest. A clip against a good player is cool and a clip against some who can’t aerial is just as good as a training clip so I actually feel like this was the right decision and people just took it poorly. Counterpoint, a casual playlist should not be used to see what level you are. If they just removed skill based matching in casual then it would be fine but no game developer thinks that’s a good idea for some reason. Unfortunate.

Freestyle needs it's own playlist to exist. Something like this: Think Tony hawk's Pro Skater, but back when it was good: You get infinite boost and it's your ball for one shot. You score points on combos, touches, Pogos, flip resets, double taps, ceiling shot etc...But other guy gets to defend his net and if you don't score you don't land it. Trade shots and at the end the guy with more banked points wins the match. It doesn't have to run on game time, it could be attempts.

Easier to say it than to experience it. When I started playing RL my first week was filled with mostly freestylers, I wasn't even at a bronze level and I was getting them in my games. All I could do at the time was sit in nets and watch them clip on me. I literally stopped playing and had no intentions of giving this game another shot, it was my friends who pushed me to continue playing it otherwise I wouldn't have endured it for as long as I did until I started playing more with players my own skill level.. I think the problem tournaments is the expectation that players will be able to hit shots they spend 10s of hours going for, in the time span of a 15 shots. If you look at rlfx for example, these players only get 1 or 2 shots in per month with some hitting over 100 hours in that month, being able to hit a crazy shot in 15 shots just isn't enough time. The bar was set too high.

There are freestylers who can hit clips in high GC like Henkovic and Jxsh, but what freestylers really want is as many opportunities as possible to hit clips, and they get that in low lobbies. Also who cares if it's a skill issue? It's not that deep. Freestylers just want to have fun and people are creating problems, aka "ur surfing" that do not exist. It's casual for a reason. Why is there no ranking system in casual? Because mmr does not matter. You can find diamonds in 1500 mmr casual, which is gc1 in comp. it's an endless cycle of bullcrap because nobody can realize the other side's points and they all just say "blah blah blah play at your own rank" without realizing that the shots we have to do take all 100 boost, tons of precision, and a perfect setup to complete the shot. And its not like we can get "crazy" shots every time, there's hundreds of fails. Doing that in any kind of competent rank is literally impossible lol. And for clips purposely hit in competitive, that's a whole different side of freestyling. In that sense, youre trying to win because it's your own rank in competitive, and the whole purpose is to outplay the other team whilst doing mechanics that are difficult to hit AT THAT RANK, not hit a crazy 8 flip reset triple musty double tap that takes 15 seconds of being in the air and easily pre-jumped, on top of most likely failing. I'm not sure why psyonix hasn't made us a mode or something yet, because there's obviously cheating in private matches & training which violate the realness of a shot. if there was a way for me to not play bronzes and have my clips be "real" still, I would do it. Its not like I get enjoyment out of trying to find a match with a bronze everyday, sometimes queuing for 20 minutes at midnight just to find another random new smurf account that ruins my setups because they need XP to smurf in ranked. I just do it so the community doesn't lash at my clip and call it fake lol, not in my control. I feel like there should me more emphasis on ranked smurfing though, because in casual you can simply just leave and move on with your day, not like the bronzes are obligated to stay in 30 minute overtimes, there is a leave match button, and you don't lose your rank. At the end of the day, there's good points on both sides, but I don't understand why there can't be a compromise mode implemented into the game for us freestylers if y'all wanna get all angry about it :p

Wah Wah I HAVE to abuse new players or I have no chance of pulling off this trick shot! So they should just be fine with letting me do whatever I want at their expense! wah wah. Cause it's OK to ruin everyone elses experience as long as YOU get to make your clips? You're trash.

all in all it does seem like psyonix made the right decision in banning players that were lowering their rank on purpose. I get its a game and if the other person is better you obviously deserve to lose, but sometimes you might still have a chance to win against these guys if they only go for clips. but when the person your up against is within the top 0.05% of players, and is so far beyond you and everyone else mechanically that you don't even have a realistic shot at even scoring 1 goal, it ruins the game, it ruins the experience, and it can cause players to leave a game. Ultimately killing it if they don't take action. ideally, the rank that displays should be as close as your "real" rank as possible. when it comes to making a game thrive, smurfing ruins things for both the game and the players. nobody wants to be on the receiving end of a smurf, it takes away any of the fun. and it also takes away from trying to learn something from that specific game because the level of play is so advanced, low elo players aren't gonna understand what they're watching or how to play against it if they've never seen anything like it. sitting there and wondering when the game will be over after you realize you lost the game before it even started. feels like wasted time. It's especially bad on League as 1 game against a smurf could be 30+ minutes wasted on a game that you were going to lose no matter what. SBBM is a great thing, high level players just don't like it cause they're used to a near 100% winrate. Smurfing is bad and should be banned. no if's and's or but's about it. people get on a game to have fun, not to be tortured by a top 1% player. top 1%, is top 1% for a reason. its like putting an NBA team against your local high school's team.

screw freestyle friday i want f2 back but fr i think freestyling is dying because the game itself has gotten boring with nothing being added and nothing to work towards also people do not realize sometimes these shots you see take days to do and are not possible in matches if the opponent is even a tiny bit competent

honestly casual mmr deranking shouldnt be an issue. i should be able to be a 300 mmr in cas and gc3 in comp without any second thoughts specifically so i can freestyle in casual, where the game doesnt matter, but also play competitively in 2's, 3's, 1's, dropshot, hoops, etc.

I feel like it's just casual. Making casual leaving ban you also really ruined it for me. But it still makes absolutely no sense to freestyle against new players just let people freestyle by themselves alone. Psyonix should have some kind of proofing mechanism or gamemode that lets viewers of clips know it's the real deal

I think Freestyling is cool but as somebody who is sitting mid Diamond - low Champ, I really don't think it's cool for those players to drop down to Plat / Gold ranks just to hit clips on people. It's tough because I respect what Freestylers do and I for sure want them to continue to to have a place to do what they do, but at the same time the Ranked experience is important, and I don't think that anybody should have the right to ruin other people's game experience for the sake of showing off their skills. If you wanna Freestyle, that's cool, but it'd be better if you did it in Champ or something. I understand that Freestylers don't want opponents who will challenge them, because they want space to hit their shots, but frankly the *point* of Freestyling is to hit shots against actual people who are actually trying to save your shots. If you want your opponents to sit back in net, you might as well just be hitting shots in Free Play. You can't sit here and say "Freestylers need to play against actual opponents for it to be legitimate," but then turn around and expect your "actual opponents" to just let you hit shots on them over and over again. It's totally possible to Freestyle against Champs / GCs because I've seen people hit crazy shots against me / higher ranked players. To me, that seems like the ideal way to Freestyle, because you're not just hitting great shots but you're doing it against great defenders. I don't Freestyle, so idk maybe people think that's an L take, but as a Ranked grinder, this seems to be the best solution. I have nothing against Freestylers, but I do have a problem with smurfs.

@isaakvandaalen38997 ай бұрын
@@l1bric Got an explanation why?
@l1bric7 ай бұрын
@@isaakvandaalen3899 i didnt wnna get all nerdy but a couple things 1. "but frankly the point of Freestyling is to hit shots against actual people who are actually trying to save your shots." if this is true explain to me how the point of every freestyle tournament ever is solely about giving freestylers the space to hit whatever shot they can 2. im not even saying that ur saying this, but people REALLY need to understand that freestylers aren't hitting clips on low mmr players in casual just because we like shitting on people who cant save our goals. i have no idea how this idea even started because it literally makes no sense. like bro i know that this random guy in casual named CoolPear293 will never save any of my good attempts, but im not doing it because i think it's cool or something to clip on people who i know stand no chance, im simply doing it because it still counts as a real game (i explain this later) 3. ive never understood how us playing in low level casual is considered as "smurfing." yes, there is casual mmr that determines who u play against, but it never gets associated with a specific rank like it does in competitive. in my understanding, smurfing is when you're playing in real games that have real stakes which could potentially ruin someone's real rank, of which there are none (ranks) in casual 4. this part is not a very strong argument but is important nonetheless: it is INCREDIBLY rare for a player to get into a game with freestylers. the ratio of regular players to freestylers is so incredibly small that most players in casual probably wont even meet a freestyler in the first place. however, ive seen multiple people claim that they "have friends who quit the game because they got freestyled on in casuaL!!!! OMG FREESTYLERS ARE SATANIC!!!!!!!" that's equivalent to me saying that i would quit the game because i lost a singular, trivial game of comp where i got smurfed on. but does that sound logical at all? (surprise, it doesnt). and, at the same time, i see so many people say that because casual players have no idea what's going on, it's morally wrong to clip on them... if they have no idea what's going on, what difference does it make if i hit a corner on them or if they get beat by other casual players? i need someone to tell me plz 5. and finally, ill address the extremely popular idea that freestylers should just hit clips in training because it makes no difference playing there than in games where the casual opponents cant defend. there are a few important facets to this, one being the fact that when playing in casual games you kind of replicate the flow of a normal game while still allowing for freestyles to spontaneously happen in the spur of the moment, adding a sort of randomness and luck element to it (while this is very subjective, and that many shots that are planned beforehand are still very good, i think many would agree that the best freestyle goals happen when the goal isnt planned out beforehand). also, if im playing in training or private matches, i can much more easily fake a clip than i could if i had played in a real match, especially with the tools available these days. another thing that isnt as important but is still important is that if im playing in training and i hit a clip, that eliminates the possibility of me saving the replay file for the clip, allowing me to go back and record that shot without the HUD on. yes, i could shadowplay it, but almost every official freestyle montage released in the past 2893 years has been made by using rocket league's surprisingly good replay system. YES I KNOW U CAN SAVE REPLAYS IN PRIVATE MATCHES, BUT I OFTEN FIND MYSELF HITTING MORE CLIPS SPONTANEOUSLY IN TRANING/CUSTOM TRAINING THAN I DO IN PRIVATE MATCHES!!!L>>>> to be honest with you, as long as freestyling exists, this problem will never get fully resolved, and freestylers will always hit clips in casual just how CSGO clip hitters will always use cheats to hit clips in game, but i suppose it helps to try and justify it rather than just forcing people to accept it. that being said, i know the arguments above are at times very subjective, but i still think many of them apply even if people try to argue they don't. yap session over.
@isaakvandaalen38997 ай бұрын
@@l1bric I think a lot of those arguments don't invalidate my own argument. Most of your points are related to freestyling in Casual gamemodes - I really don't have a serious problem with this. While in a perfect world sure I think it'd be nice if every low-level casual game was filled with genuinely low-level players, I also agree that when people queue for Casual games they're doing so with the understanding that whatever they're getting into shouldn't be taken too seriously. I very regularly play against high Champs, GCs and even the odd SSL in my Casual games and while usually they handily beat me, I'm not out here complaining about smurfs in Casuals. My problem isn't with people who Freestyle in Casual playlists, my problem is with people who Freestyle against casual players in Ranked playlists. As I said in an earlier comment, my perspective here is as somebody who mostly grinds ranked. That's where most of the value in RL lies for me, and it's what I'm most concerned about. Also to address your point 1. Freestyle tournaments are obviously different to queuing online games. In Freestyle tournaments there are a set of expectations that each competitor has, which are very different to the expectations that a Gold 3 has when they Q a game of Ranked 1v1s. As for your point 2. I agree that Freestyling is not the same as Smurfing - but you can do both at once! While I appreciate that most smurfs aren't trying to ruin the experience for others, when you play against very low MMR opponents, that's effectively what you're doing. Once again, I'm talking about Ranked here. If you want to ball out in Casuals and just do whatever, that's totally cool man.

If you have to lower your rank so much just in order to be able to clip against a player that has no chance against you, the clip is about as much worth as a clip in freeplay. Nice to look at mechanically, but worthless playingwise. Therefore, they can stay in freeplay to record their clips. It doesn't really make a difference if you score your flip reset on an empty goal or a silver player, whose match you ruin.
