If you want a nice, easygoing, fresh take on isekai, I highly recommend My Next Life as a Villainess. Summary: Girl is transported into the world of her favorite VN, but she plays the antagonist who is destined to die at the end of the story and does everything she can to avoid the bad ending. It sounds silly, but it’s super wholesome and inverts the harem formula, and the characters are all super lovable and interesting with their own motivations and backstories.

It doesn't invert the harem formula at all, it's played straight. But her dumb antics are great.

Great anime. MC is one of the best female leads I've seen in a while. She's cute and funny, but can also be strong as hell. And while madly and adorably in love with the Demon Lord, she's very independent (something that her lover finds both attractive and troublesome, as she's not a naturally very obedient partner 😉) and in my opinion is a way better depiction of a strong, independent female than the reverse-incels Western media seems to think are what strong women are.
@ryip1 Жыл бұрын
The only issue is... this is also very overdone in the otome isekai subgenre. Whether it's a game/novel or just convenient time travel, the protagonist is aware she will die and is aware of the events leading up to it and tries to keep it from happening. Meanwhile, she ends up happening to get the guy (a big chunk has a main male lead rather than a harem). They've only recently started adapting otome isekai into anime with the most recent one I can think of being Tearmoon Empire story. Much like isekai as a whole, there are some good ones (using politics in her favor to convince the nobles to side with her), there are the dumb but funny ones (protagonist just wants to survive and her every actions are misunderstood as being wise), and there are ultimately the dumb and boring ones (the protagonist is loving her boytoy of the week).

nice video, but 0 talk about the villainess isekai model, like seriously there is an entire (pretty much exactly as oversaturated) reborn as a vilainess trope going on. Some are pretty fun. Hell there's also the "reborn as an otome npc" one where the guy gets a harem of otome game villain and main characters and he has to deal with all their stories filled with the really weird male harem character and tropes. Campfire cooking in another world, no harem, just overpowered pets that stay around for the MC cooking (not even like female pets or monster girls, they are just straight up monsters) Ascendance of a bookworm is my favorite, but you have to be into slow development and world building, becauser it's really slow going and I love it!

@within_the_sky2356 Жыл бұрын
Thinking about "isakai" that don't involve actually going to another world reminds me of how in a vast majority of isakai the part about going to another world matters so little it sometimes doesn't factor in past the first episode, it could be replaced with amnesia or living a sheltered life or just some reason to be unaware of the world and it'd have the exact same effect on the story Ironically unlike the ones it inspired, SAO being an isakai continuously factors in, their goals are: to beat the game and escape, to free Asuna from the virtual world, to stop a murderer that can somehow kill people irl by killing them in VR. Now I'm not a fan of the plot but I gotta admit some thought was actually put into it

I think this is much like a chinese web novel in that the isekai is a reason for a 'loser' to basically get motivation to actually change their life and have a total personality flip because it's actually someone else taking over a just dead body.

Three types of isekai: Reincarnation- reborn as a baby in a fantasy world Transmigration/portal fantasy- you go to a fantasy world in your own body Possesion/Implantation- your personality/mind is implanted into someone else's body, taking over their consciousness or taking over their body after the original owner dies

@@TGPDrunknHick Someone else taking over a dead body sounds actually really cool. That'd be some juicy inner conflict tbh And then there's the perspective of the imposter, how'd they deal with the guilt of lying to everyone. This video got me thinking. Samurai Jack is basically an isekai in of itself. It follows a bunch of the formula, with a few exceptions. But because it tackles these tropes differently to modern interpretations, and ignoring the fact that it is a western cartoon and not an anime, it stands out when compared to each other. Like how Jack is an extremely skilled protagonist, but he had to earn his skills, and even learns new ones while he is on his journey. Just an interesting thought.

Average Abilities is much better as an LN than an anime. It's 90% fun SOL adventures, 10% entropy, extinction, and continuous civilization resetting. Those sudden dark shifts can strike readers with a little bit of haunting dread. 1 of the last dark moments I've read that stands out in memory is when Mile, the protagonist, gets dragged halfway to a portal to basically h3ll where there are no nanomachines which is the source of her over power. I don't dislike it (as I like fantasy), but most of the time, the story being an Isekai is a bad start. Since you've said your gonna react to FFF-class trash hero, I would say the more you're bored of the classique Isekai tropes, the funnier it get, and I have found the novel to be even funnier than the manga (as it more detailed about why he does certain thing, and the manga is a bit tamer)

Follows their stories on a Earth that has a very thin ambient chi/mana concentration, putting "some" restrictions on those protagonists. And hey, no harem!

Reading shit isekai is what keeps me sane. I just love learning all the world's and magic systems. It's like someone who rewatches their favorite movie 100 times but if they made one change to it and butterfly effect took over

What’s funny about Sword Art Online is that *the first half was actually hype.* Me playing Phantasy Star Online, I love the concept of nerve gear to go into a video game world. Everyone said it was fire… *THEN THE ARC CONCLUDED.* The second half of season 1 didn’t hit as hard as the first, and the villain being a super creep didn’t help either. Sadly that’s where I dropped Sword Arts too, but I heard Gun Gale and others after were cool too. Just you couldn’t say that or even say you like the first half of season 1, unless you want to be bombarded with hate comments lol.

My first was Magic Knight Rayearth, yes I am what you would consider "Old" since I am in my Mid 40's. I have always loved the idea of being transported to another world and seeing what effect that might have. I watch any Isekai I can find these days. Trash or not I love them all.

Honestly, I love isekai and thematically isekai anime like Dan Machi. They just make me feel happy. That said, I'm not blind- 90% of them are trash, but fun trash 😅I watch nearly all of them with a smile on my face

I sometimes think the isekai-story is real role-playing concept where the GM just goes all out. Pathfinder and (sigh)dnd are kinda isekai games when you think about it. I apply knowledge of my current state of mind into the game every time.

I think Gate is rather good. It's the imperial war and conquest era vs modern day military. The empire believes it's the best but then gets bitch slapped with modern day Japan military and weapons.

Isekais are a microcosm of anime and entertainment in general I guess. It has certain conventions that some all-stars break to make a name for themself

Mushoku Tensei has only aired feed recently, but it keeps the Isekai tropes cause... it was written back in early ~2010s when those were getting defined. plus MCs original life is often mentioned and greatly affects him in the new one, mostly on psychological level instead of typical mention once and forever forget ----- Regarding FFF class hero it has decent follow up, since the goddes is angry at him, failing his 'training' (MC is a piece of thrash) and forces him to redo his path. he's trying to cheat the grading system (ie. one of the marks is popularity, so he goes about brainwashing important people to skew the public opinion)

Okay so, I've had this idea rattling around inside my head where I took inspiration from isekai anime with some bits from adventure time among other types of movies and shows. It starts off with the main character being a cop with a military background of a small arms repairmen (he did repair more than just your standard infantry weapons like a vehicle or two there along with some artillery). He did see some combat due to the world he is in has had tensions along with battles here n there but that is besides the point, the main thing is that the world he is in is on the brink of nuclear war. This is over heard on the radio until boom, a blinding bright light envelops all around him as he was on a night patrol. The night sky becomes like day for a moment. Then the rumbling starts. After the shockwave catches up to him in his car he gets flown into the air, then in that moment he is transported into the far distant future by an eleven queen who used a spell to transport him into the future. Hell he ain't the only one either, there were others but he is the first that has what he has. Which is his squad car, a shotgun, a pistol and whatever ammo he had at the time. I want to turn this idea into a comic but sadly haven't found someone or a group of people to work on the idea fully. I would gladly like to write it but doing it by myself is straining, after this video I am not sure if I should do the idea

So i'm a spider so what got to be my favorite isekai just for the fact of the constant struggle of the main character sure they're overpowered but it's still a constant struggle of survival not knowing if they'll make it the next day making all their accomplishments feel really earned and not just because they were made overpowered and used their insane abilities to kill all their enemies

What if you were "Isekai'd" into a game with the following condition: 1) If your health falls below a third of max, you could faint and lose a "chance" (life); if you get caught after, you are cut-off from half of the world. But 2) If your health falls below 0 and you have no Phoenix Down nor Shroud Down, you die and get a game over. Oh, and 3) you are predestined to be part of a team that does actions "Marche Style" (Due to a bad deed or something; maybe you were Meme Semimayor and impersonated a Meme Mayor idk. Doesn't matter.). I'd like to hear from you your conclusion. Also, nice channel and show. Kudos and salutations.

I honestly love Isekai shows that don't have the MC fighting the demon king and instead just trying to do something unique. Rebuilding a Kingdom, Farming In Another World, Killing The Hero, Cooking in Another World or just trying to live a regular life even thou they are extremely over powered. Yeah Harems can be an annoying part of the Isekai troupe, especially if there are to many girls, but when you find that one isekai that has a good Harem, it feels like you've struck gold. Shows like Realist Hero, Tsukimichi Moonlight Fantasy, How Not To Summon a Demon Lord have really good harems that actually make you like the girls. All in all, the Isekai genre will never die, it will only multiply.

The Isekai genre to Japan is like the superhero genre to the U.S., both being weirdly specific genres that are popular as hell in their respective countries. Both started out with pretty damn good entries which boosted the genre to set up for later oversaturated garbage, and now both genres are factories for garbage like She Hulk and In Another World With My Smartphone. Is it just me noticing how crazy similar these genres are? There are even meta Isekai (don't really have any good examples) and meta superhero (The Boys). Well there are still some good things coming out of both genres, just sad to see that initial success of rather specific genres seems to result in factory production of trash and now less and less people want to dive in these piles of trash to look for the diamonds hidden in it.

I would say Mecha or Tokusastu as superheroes of Japan, not isekai. Isekai did not have the cultural impact like those genres and styles. I would compare it more to slasher craze of the 80s.

@@thomasffrench3639 isekai definetly has replacing mecha since like 2010s. last time we have good mecha is gurren lagann or code geass. then nothing in 2010s. 2010s is when isekai blew up and it not slowing down either
