Interesting video lol thought it would’ve been about the Yeezy brand itself, but it’s just him 😅 I’m already interested after seeing the first minute. Let me get some food ready and indulge Edit: Ok, so a lot of the loose threads and unanswered questions are actually public knowledge if you followed his career as an artist during interviews. He spoke on the failed runway show and how he went in debt funding the whole thing, which made him create the cruel summer project (he got a budget advance from his record label def jam) so he could further continue his second collection. The Kanye West line didn’t continue in 2013 because that was the year he became the most notorious as an artist. This video actually provides context for me personally as to why he was so angry during that time. He released the Yeezus album and not only was this his most ground breaking album sonically, but the most unhinged he’s ever been publicly. He would constantly fight paparazzi, go off on irate rants in interviews, spawning the notorious “how sway” moment. This was sparked because of the question raised specifically on the topics in this video. Kanye was at his most viral and genre bending within his music career, which stemmed from frustration in the fashion industry, his own ego, and fight with classism / celebrity. I understand now why that album was such a stark difference from what he released before, it’s because he spent years being around creatives and outside of hip hop within fashion. I didn’t realize how quickly the turn around was because I learned in this video he worked on a 2012 collection, which did not even come across my radar at the time. Everything’s all coming full circle, thanks.

This was so good ty! Im actually surprised to hear your thought that he would have stopped the fashion line because of CSP tho tbh, only because it seems that would have helped fund it. It could have been a saving grace to the brand and his vision on fashion never compromised at all. Whatever the reason was I do think its plausible that his focus changed or maybe becayse it does cost so much, or I guess did cost so much, he just took the L so he could make the colossal success that was soon to be Yeezy. Either way, thanks for such an interesting comment 🤍

@@understitchYT I’m a fan of Kanye and was around for that era of his music. A lot of people didn’t understand what he was doing at the time and why he was so angry when he released the 2013 yeezus album, but this video paints a perfect picture as to why. To clarify something though, what I meant by his “cruel summer project,” I was actually referring to an album he released with his label mates at the time. It’s funny seeing he did a giuseppe zanotti collaboration, because this was a year after the album was released lol The timeline follows with this video perfectly, along with a bunch of other things-but he asked his record label for an advance to create the album, which he’s stated in an interview he only did that project to fund his fashion line (2012 collection) I could go on another tangent on what this in effect did to the artists who were on that project, but I’ll save it for another day 😅 Edit: I’d recommend giving his interview with sway in the morning a watch and you’ll get the clear answer as to why he didn’t continue in 2013. It’s irate and hostile, but it makes sense now in retrospect. He’s wearing a white long sleeve Henley shirt.
@understitchYT12 сағат бұрын
I knew that CSP was music yeah 😅 what I meant was the record sales could have been used to financially support the fashion line. Either way, Id love to see that interview where he talks about it ending. Was he explicit about the brand ending? Because I know he was really upset about it, even if it did come good soon after
@TrvisXXIII12 сағат бұрын
@@understitchYT yeah, he goes in depth about being in debt after failing twice trying to break into the fashion industry and got upset when the interviewer asked him “why can’t you do it yourself, you’re Kanye west” 😂 He name drops A LOT of folks and I think I might have to give it a second watch, because I haven’t seen it in years. After seeing this video, it’ll definitely provide context as to what he was referring to. I think you’d enjoy it because he made a ton of references to designers and notable behind the scenes folks in the industry, but viewers at the time had no idea what he was talking about and it just made him sound crazy and erratic lol Edit: not sure if KZbin would allow this, but here’s the interview kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWibpYeVjt15lcUsi=0_Y3U4SJ28Cn0CCZ

He should have got the Louis Vuitton menswear job instead of Pharrell. He was the original LV poster boy of the 00’s and he would have pushed it to new heights especially after the loss of Virgil. Everyone will have something to say about Kanye he is polarising but no one can deny he has creativity in abundance.

I think he would of if he was more commercial like Pharrell tbh, less controversial too. Because lbh Ye is a better designer than Williams

Considering P was more or less an intern under Karl, you would have thought he would have listened and watched on how to put a runway together. None of his collections are cohesive. Kanye shot himself in the foot when he threw his toys out of the pram when Virgil got Nike and LV. Kanye is fashion, even back in the all falls down era he was setting trends, working with Murakami himself to get the Graduation Artwork. I still think he will get that job one day. Please can we have a deep dive on Pharrells fashion resume.

I’m back for another comment 😅 the Yeezy ‘15 collection you mentioned, and also following the through line of his career gave me an epiphany. He released an album titled “the life of Pablo” the following year, which most likely he worked on in conjunction with the line. I never understood why it was called that and there weren’t any direct interviews where he’d give a clear explanation. But it all makes sense to me now after watching this video lol This man had his hand in everything, fashion, music, art, film, and other miscellaneous projects during that period. Like Picasso and his eras, Kanye felt like he was a modern day version of that because everything he played a role in had the Midas touch. Along with having periods that were impactful publicly.
@saintwinona13 сағат бұрын
the pablo concept also relates to his internal struggles being manifested externally as three different "pablos": the artist, pablo picasso; the religious family man, saint paul / san pablo; and the egotistical controversial provocateur, pablo escobar which/one sad album to listen to in retrospect especially since he kind of failed his own test irl. my favorite album from him tied w yeezus

I do agree. I think its absolutely fascinating how influential he has been. And while I cant say Im into music (any music, not just his), and of course with needing to ignore his personal controversies which seem to have held him back a touch more than he expected, he himself is such an incredible creative force that its impossible to ignore

I remember the coverage and photos from this 1st show. I didn't understand all if the fur for springtime. The clothes were derivative but not horrible. He tried and l have seen much worse. In later years with his partnership with The Gap. I know The Gap was desperate to stay relevant but Kanye was way too risky for a big corporation like that. We saw how that turned out. But it seems that Kanye still has enough fans that will support his future fashion endeavors.
@understitchYT12 сағат бұрын
I think the gap collection was just okay, but I think he was perhaps asked to make more commercial things than he initially had. Just my assumption. But also, Kanye is wuite good at learning and evolving from his mistakes so anything like this brand (whcih informed Yeezy) and the gap collection (which informed his current $20 projects) seems to be more pivotal than empty
