Eh, the trains haven't been so good lately though have they? As in release times and whatnot, they used to do 2 every 4 years and a cargo train 2 years after the first 2 would come out, and if you wanna compare to what was available in the 80s and 90s... the stations, add ons, expansion carriages and wagons

I bought 3 Trains last year. The Cargo Train, a Yellow Passenger Train, and the new Green Express Passenger Train. All of them had full tracks. The UCS Harry Potter Train is pretty badass, just pricey.

I had that train too…idk why but i broke it down for parts and not even a year ago i scavenged some parts, images on google and i rebuilt it with a few mods and because i was missing one wheel piece i made something called Jacob’s bogies for it…works well, still powerfunctions powered and still awesome

Okay, to be fair that Hogwarts Express set isn't a TRAIN set, its a Harry Potter set that happens to be a train. The Hogwarts Express' purpose isn't to go around a track, it's purpose is meant to fill a scene within Harry Potter, and it was always like this since the first Hogwarts Express released in 2001. While the first Hogwarts Express came with instructions on how it can be powered, all other Hogwarts Express models that came out after it were never intended to be powered without personal extensive modification. However, you look at a modern train set, such as sets 60337 and 60336, its purpose is to go around a track, therefore it comes with a complete circle of tracks for it to go around as they are designed to be powered.

even though you can cause a short circut with them (idk how it happens but apparently its a thing) theyre vastly superior to the plastic tracks, and besides they're more like real model train tracks in the way that they deliver power to the train

@@WesternMDRailfan It's very easy to cause a short circuit with them: Both rails are a different electrical phase (or one is neutral and the other one is "hot", I don't remember, but that doesn't matter), so you can't have a track layout where the two rails are connected. e.g.: A single track that ends in a balloon loop

The original end of the 80's 12v was the best era for Lego trains. Remote contolled crossings, switches and decouplers, and with some simple mods remotely powerable track parts. Nothing after that comes close.

oh it is not just the amount of tracks... The tracks also went from being electrified with two metal rails and a central station that could adjust the speed and direction of all the trains on them to being solely made of plastic and the trains powered by batteries. And then Lego even started to remove the individual remotes for them, relying only on apps. That is of course, if you actually get a motorized train and not a display set that's meant to rot in some shelf.

For Christmas in 2022 I got the 60336 City Freight Train and it came with a circle of tracks, the loop was even bigger than the white bullet train one, and a siding.

Just for clarification: Train loops are only exclusive to the Lego City line, as they are designed with motors for play and are therefore useful. However, other train sets such as the Crocodile Locomotive, Hogwarts Express and most recently the Orient Express are meant to be for display (however with the option to actually run them on a layout), and thus only come with a few sections of molded tracks or a special display track built from scratch.

In theory selling the track separate is not only beneficial to Lego but the consumer as well.By having the track come separate collectors don't end up paying for track pieces they don't need. This also benefits Lego because on kit like the Hogwarts Express Warner Brothers gets a percentage of the profit so if the track is sold separately without the Harry Potter branding Lego is the only one profiting.

Sets like The Hogwarts express and the Orient Express are primarily pieces for collectors, they don’t come motorized so there’s not really a point in selling it with tracks, however that dose not mean they are incompatible with rails

Honestly i've always preferred the playmobil train sets over the lego sets. One part because i like the bigger scale of playmobil compared to lego and another reason is that i had the older sets which came with a ton of things to play around with as a kid. My all time favourite train set being the set with number 4018 followed closely by 4019 (which had a lot more parts to play around with).

It's only the smaller, non-powered train sets that don't come with full tracks. If you buy any of the ones that have the electric motors in them, they all have enough tracks to make one complete loop. You're just not looking at the right sets.

They never implement quality-degrading cost-cutting measures, sell things at a remarkably low price given the manufacturing cost, and actually listen to fan input, unlike brands like Hasbro.

They still give you full loops the reason why the Hogwarts express did not have a full loop. It’s because it is intended to be played with on the ground. That is why it is not motorized.

The Hogwarts Express is meant to be dragged around the floor, hence the ramps on the track piece, so the train can be dragged onto the track easily, so it can pull into the station properly, wich is meant to be attached to that track.
