In this case, burning the library may well be what preserved it! Clay tablets in ancient Mesopotamia were not traditionally fired, so being subjected to such a fire actually made them more durable and likely to survive for millennia. Later libraries would suffer much more greatly, since their texts were on paper or parchment.

the problem is: almost nobody is really interested in that. the mass of the people don't even know that Assyria existed. The best chance to see Assyria on the big screen was Will Smiths plan for a movie about the pharaoh Taharqa. But it remained a project only.

I think a major problem is the casting. Like Gods of Egypt, 300, Exodus: Gods and Kings, Clash of the Titans, Cleopatra, or The Immortals? What’s with all the American and British actors? 🤷‍♂️ It’s very rare to see a historical film with actors that are casted that actually look like the people they’re portraying. Usually investors don’t want to gamble their money on a movie they think audiences won’t watch. I think they should give it a go and see what happens, but I’m alone on that one.

@Faris Fasil They are literally the same people just different identity. Babylonian came after Assyrian Empire fell, and Akkadians are people who preceded Assyrians. There are Assyrians today who still read and write Sumerian cuneiform, and Akkadian tribe was part of Sumerian civilization before they revolted to create Akkadian Empire. Go to Iraq and Syria and ask anyone who the original people are, they will tell you its Assyrian. How come they know this, and you dont?

Assyrians didnt remove any culture, we were the only people preserving Sumerian culture until modern day and now many people worldwide are helping to do the same. @@Lucas-yf1es That's completely wrong. The bronze age began in 3300 BC. The first iron swords were made in 1200 BC. Thats 2100 years between. 1945 was the date the first nuclear weapon made. It took 3145+ years to go from iron swords to nuclear weapons.

Good eye, MorfeoRenaissance! Romans eventually phased out using the phalanx, but from the founding of their city-state until the close of the 2nd century BC, the Romans found the Greek-style phalanx suitable for fighting in the plains of Latium. (Before they transitioned to the more well known legion). Love finding history buffs here in the comments! :)

TED-Ed The sarissa was never used by the kingdom of Rome. Well, at least it wasn't widely used since there are only two (I could be mistaken but meh) Roman sarissas in the whole Latium dated before 300aC. On the contrary there are many archeological findings, near Tursculum and Tuscia, that show us spears and oval Etruscan shields in use by the Roman warbands. Tldr: were there roman warbands that used sarissas? Maybe. I wouldn't bet on it. Was that common? Nah. But the original point is: what is the point of showing "roman phalanxes" when Rome is worldwide famous to this day for the legions? It was just a writing error, that's all. No need to justify it.

He , Professor Paolo Menozzi and Alberto Piazza spent 8 years collecting data for their study on the genetics of almost 2 thousand entries. Their analysis shows that the Assyrians as a people represent a unique genetic profile that distinguished them from other peoples. I wonder why every time a empire disintegrated, the collective knowledge always get destroys in part or completely? Every time there an civil war or peasant revolt, the library (and the palace) always get sacks and the works and knowledge of an entire empire for hundred of years get wipe out. Is this why it takes so long for mankind to grow out of the early state of human civilization?

My theory is that part of it is from within. A desire that no one get what "we had" without earning it. Usually the invader is stronger but not smarter than the invaded, so people without the knowledge of the ancients, but that they had a grand empire might ask some who remain and have preserved a fraction of what was lost to lead. Then there the is the factor of religious texts and documents on other forms of government being present in those libraries, a dangerous thing to those who hold power. If people can read these things and learn on there own another way, then the leaders they have now could be toppled. A monarchy is only secure if the King is the only one who knows how to throw it down. Then there is the factor of location, many libraries were built along walls and when the walls went, well there goes the library. In a desire to win, well they just kept going and didn't bother to pick the books back up or read them. Which is why several ancient texts were literally found to be stomped on.

It's not necessarily that it's all destroyed. Likely much of it was taken during the sacking and sold to others. But we just don't have records of those works remaining today. This was likely made more likely that knowledge would be lost due to the fact that few people knew how to read or write and materials to do so was quite expensive.

This is why we lost more knowledge than we ever had, because wars destroy everything for resources and people for power, though the knowledge from generations before pass on to us is eliminated I assume is to keep us in fragile state not to revolt. Opposed rise to oppressors, winners right history, the strong devour weak, endless cycle have we not learned from history. We keep making same mistakes me learn very little and call it something different though it may look, sound, feel better, does not make it true. Humanity will be free of mind body and spirit once we end wars, borders, oppression, slavery, gender inequality, status and value of life.

Benedict Manzin obviously you need to do some research because the Romans did use it they actually learned it from the Greeks and improved on it hence why the original used shields that were round the Romans used tower shields which covered more of their bodies and also improved the turtle manouver.
