Thank you for your compliments. I'm an American of Assyrian descent. We are still around at about 5 million strong. We are near extinction because we are some of the first converts to Christianity. Centuries later the Middle East became predominantly Muslim and the persecution of Assyrians began and persists to this day in Iraq, Syria, Iran and Turkey

You're right, we were by far the most warlike and blood thirsty people in history but it's important to note that the iron age was the most brutal era in history and more significantly, Assyria was literally the most dangerous neighborhood in the world as it had no natural barriers. The neighboring marauding nomadic peoples invaded Assyrian towns, consequenctly developing a warlike and violent warrior race in Assyria that would go on the offensive and conquer the kingdoms that once oppressed Assyria.

After the Babylonians and Elamites captured and executed Sennacherib's eldest son Ashur-nadin-shumi, whom he had proclaimed as his new vassal king in Babylon, Sennacherib campaigned in both regions, subduing Elam. As such, I know what you meant. HOWEVER, bearing in mind that I greatly admire and respect the Assyrians, all of their kings were extremely brutal to defeated enemies who failed to surrender immediately. I really fell in love with the four ancient Mesopotamian civilizations - particularly Assyria. By the way, my favorite persona from antiquity, was the fabulous king, whose name you elected to share: Aššurbanipal - the greatest member of the Sargonid dynasty!

The Assyrians are the copyists of the Babylonians, when the Assyrians settled in the North they began borrowing and adopting everything from the Babylonians. Like turning Inanna into Ishtar for example or hambubba into lamssu and re-writing the Enuma Elish and making Ashur the head God of the story and not Marduk. they plagiarised the entire religion.

The mention of the Chaldeans in the Book of Genesis is one of the key indicators of when, and possibly where, Genesis was written. The Chaldeans were a group that existed only for a short time (900 BC to 500 BC) and in a specific place: the extreme South-East of Mesopotamia, roughly in the same area as ancient Sumer. They were foreign migrants who originally came from the Levant, possibly as refugees from the Bronze Age Collapse, and the reason they settled where they did was because that region was largely uninhabited at that time, due to increasing desertification of the area. After the 500s BC, they were absorbed into the native population and ceased being a distinct group of their own. The fact that Genesis mentions them as an existing people indicates the authors of Genesis lived and wrote in this time frame 900-500 BC, and probably in Mesopotamia, where the Chaldeans were known.

There are two choices when referring to countries in ancient history: 1) The country name at that time 2) The country name today An example would be whether you call France in medieval times "France" or "Gaul" Considering he called it "Babylon" and not "Iraq" it is odd he called it "Israel" and "Palestine" considering that 1. At the time the regions were called "Judea" and "Sumeria" 2. The region only started being called "Palestine" around 100 CE 3. Even if you want to go by today's standards (which would be inconsistent -- see above), Palestine is not recognized as a full member state by the UN

Assyria was no more warlike than any other civilization. It’s a really unfair and reductive characterization. There are so many other things you could attribute to Assyria, like they created the first massive library, built the first aqueducts, had brilliant art and culture, etc. Think about it, are the Assyrians any more warlike than the US? Not even close, think of the counties the US has destroyed, all the lives of innocent civilians; and on a global scale. Look how they targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure in Iraq, Serbia, Libya, Syria, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, the list goes on. Yet Assyria’s culture and contributions to civilization are always eclipsed by this warlike label. It’s extremely reductive and unjustified framing. They were brutal in war, sure. But the world was a bloody brutal place back then, and it still is. Grow up, sunshine. And don’t accept this western centric framing of everything from Asia being automatically barbaric.

Assyrians fell because they were too proud of being conquers until it was upsetting to the God of the Hebrews. you are, the convenience of finding iron more easily probably allowed the Assyrians to mass produce weapons and armor, and deploy more armored troops in an era after the Bronze Age collapse, when trade routes were ruined and tin was very hard to come by. CORRECTION: Today there is a small community also calling itself "Assyrian". These have NOTHING to do with Assyrians of the past. They are NOT Assyrian but Arameans of Nestorian Church stealing that name. In WWI in a British conspiracy, these Aramaic wannabes around Urmia (far away from ancient Assyria), agreed to ADOPT the new ethnic name of Assyrian from the bible. Surely you know that was the name the ROMANS gave to Judea after expelling the ppl of Israel in 1st century AD. It's Latin for "philistine", the ancient enemies of Israel. There are two choices when referring to countries in ancient history: 1) The country name at that time 2) The country name today An example would be whether you call France in medieval times "France" or "Gaul" Considering he called it "Babylon" and not "Iraq" it is odd he called it "Israel" and "Palestine" considering that 1. At the time the regions were called "Judea" and "Sumeria" 2. The region only started being called "Palestine" in 100 CE 3. Even if you want to go by today's standards (which would be inconsistent -- see above), Palestine is not recognized as a full member state by the UN
