Correction:. Afiyat is an Arabic word which means wellness and safety. It is said as 'Sihha wa aafiya" meaning wishing you good health, well being and safety. It has nothing to do with enjoy your meal.

@@huseyinbabaturk8219 In Turkish it is mostly used in that meaning though. In Turkish "Afiyet olsun" basically means "Eat with pléasure". And I am not making this up, this definition is from the official Turkish Language Institution.

The word “afiyet” is not a Turkish word. It is Arabic word and I have the correct meaning. It absolutely does not mean enjoy your meal. That is an incorrect translation of an Arabic word to Turkish. Even if there is no meal involved it still is used as “Allah afiyet versin” to wish a good well being. 1:00

@@huseyinbabaturk8219 It is not Turkish but it is still a widely used word. You can also use it as "Afiyet şeker olsun". And we use it like how I said. ıt might be incorrect compared to Arabic but it is how we use it here in Turkey. Turkish and Arabic are different languages and meanings of words can change over time. It is wrong in Arabic but its correct in Turkish. And we are talking about Turkish here, not Arabic.

As someone who worked as in flight chef at Turkish Airlines for 6 years, I can say that we are real chefs. We have culinary diplomas and many years of experience in the industry. Planes dont have microwaves :D we are cooking in ovens that go up to 170C. All those food you eat on board we know how to make it. We are also working at the main catering factory when we are not flying. So for those who says we are microwavers and such just stfu.

Thank you for sharing your Turkish air experience. You are right about the lounge, which is over crowded, same buffet food all the time, the airport is extremely warm, and their private bed conditions are very unfair to passengers whose 2nd is shorter than 8hrs and layover more than 4hr. So, most of the time, we would never get the bed. You could get a shower, but one needs to wait around 45mins to 2hrs, which might not be worth it if the layover is short. Also, you are right about the annoying pre recordings which are mechanical and looses the human element. About the old bread claim by Turkish air is spectacle since they claim they use the 12000 yr old recipe, based on their intro ad they play when you switch on the monitor. I wonder if the people who made the ad verified if the first bread originated in turkey or Jericho 😂

Well done! You told a compelling and engaging story of THY's history. They were once avoidable, and now they have an impressive global network. Their catering truly is mindblowing, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I do hope they can work on some of the people skills. I've never found them to be rude, but they can be a bit detached. It also seems like your boarding experience was a bit less arduous. Perhaps it just seemed more frustrating in the old Ataturk Airport with its cramped gates and busses instead of bridges. Who would have ever dreamed that a nonstop Istanbul-Denver flight would be financially and logistically plausible? Perhaps Orlando is next on THY's list.

I sometimes envy the countries who do not aim to be an international hub. Like Finland, Switzerland. Even The Netherlands. Those countries curb flights for environmental reasons, whilst Türk Hava Yolları brings a lot of exhaust to İstanbul. And a lot of COVID during the pandemic times... What is the point of channelling all that crowd via Turkey?

Great video and subscribed. You are really giving flying together feeling with your descriptions, really liked it so keep them coming! About Turkey-Türkiye difference, the country's name has been always 'Türkiye cumhuriyeti' or 'Repulic of Türkiye' since it was established. But the government was using English translation, Turkey in UN same as most countries. Until recently that it applied to UN to use its actual name, Türkiye. So the country's name didn't change and everybody can use whatever translation it is in their languages. Unless they are UN or NATO officials only then they must use Türkiye.
@m.e.c.5837
@m.e.c.5837 5 күн бұрын
The country's name was never Republic of Türkiye in English. It was Republic of Turkey. Because the word Turkiye doesn't exist in English. The spelling of the English translation has now changed. Republic of Turkiye did not exist prior to 2021. So you cannot say "it has always been" that since it was established. Yes it has been that in Turkish but not in general at all. However country's international (English) name did change because even on Google maps now it is called Turkiye. It is not a UN/NATO specific thing. It's literally a rebranding.
@ggoddkkiller1342
@ggoddkkiller1342 5 күн бұрын
@@m.e.c.5837 First of all there isn't such a thing called 'English name', every country has a single name that they declare during their establishment. Check out every single international agreement to see if it is written as 'Repulic of Turkey' or 'Türkiye cumhuriyeti' you will see it is written as Türkiye cumhuriyeti simply because that's the country's name. While the government has been using English translation in UN same as most countries. So nope country's name didn't change nor it is a reband. Google began using Turkiye perhaps because they use UN recognization to display those country names and borders, huh? NATO also didn't have to use Türkiye but they do as it is UN recognized name anymore..

@@ggoddkkiller1342 I mean, literally look at all the English pages of official Turkish government websites, they all say Türkiye now. Before 2021, they said Turkey. All Turkish brands, from Turkish Airlines to products labeled ‘Made in Türkiye,’ are now using Türkiye. The government clearly wants the international/English name to be Türkiye and is actively promoting that so that, in 10 years, people will only know it as such. It’s absolutely a rebranding effort. If you can’t see that, well, that’s on you. And Türkiye isn’t the first to do this. Côte d’Ivoire ditched ‘Ivory Coast’ in 1985 to stick to its French name. Iran swapped out ‘Persia’ for its native name back in 1935. Sri Lanka moved away from ‘Ceylon’ in 1972, and Eswatini did the same in 2018, dropping ‘Swaziland’ for a name truer to its identity. Even the Czech Republic shortened things to ‘Czechia’ in 2016 (which btw was called Bohemia in English long before that). It’s all about national identity.
@m.e.c.5837
@m.e.c.5837 4 күн бұрын
@@ggoddkkiller1342 Your statement is way off. Historically, international agreements referred to the country as ‘Turkey’ or the ‘Republic of Turkey,’ not ‘Türkiye Cumhuriyeti.’ The 1923 Treaty of Lausanne and the 1963 Ankara Agreement both use ‘Turkey,’ as do pre-2021 EU agreements. The shift to ‘Türkiye’ in official contexts only happened recently. Find me one historical agreement before 2021 where ‘Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’ or ‘Republic of Türkiye’ was used? I'll wait. Yes, there IS a such thing as English names for convenience in international contexts. Countries like India, known as ‘Bharat’ domestically, use English translations for easier communication. Similarly, Türkiye now wants its native form respected internationally. But let’s be clear: this is a rebranding. ‘Made in Türkiye’ labels and Turkey and Turkish brands' adoption of the name are about aligning global perception with cultural identity. Most of your points are valid, but the rest? Way off. Just let it go, bud, you don’t get it!
@ggoddkkiller1342
@ggoddkkiller1342 4 күн бұрын
@@m.e.c.5837 The problem your examples are actual country name changes! While for Türkiye it was always called Türkiye so you have no right to claim the country's name changed or 'English name' changed. You can however claim the government wants to promote Türkiye over Turkey that i would 100% agree, in fact this was the whole reason of UN name change. However this is not reband as the country was never called Turkey at first place..

The negative: Me and my parents always used Turkish airlines since the 70s for traveling between Germany and Turkey. We did that even in times when it would profit us more if we to use other planes. Which was the case for most Turks living outside of Turkey. We wanted our country and people to get 100% of the profit. But in recent years the Islamist leaders sold about half of the company to a bunch of Arabs in Katar, which is why this is also kind of a tragic story from our view.

Actually, it's not true. Turkish airlines are not subsidized. It's called Erdogan construction contracts like destroying the old airports and redoing them for profit. If what you said is correct, Erdogan's government would own the majority. It's not; it stated it was private, which makes it impossible. Erdogan would love to touch Turkish Airlines' profits and IS Bank's, but it's private, and it still complains to this date. It pays all its dues, how do we know? We know from other airlines and FCC updates and Star Airlines annually financial disclosures. Please don't makeup stuff you do not know about.
