Am I the only American who likes original dubstep? Like Skream, Benga, etc.? I really just like deeper, darker, and slower dubstep.

Nah man, I been listening to Skream, Benga, and Rusko since '08. That doesn't make us any cooler unless you wanna get all music elitist up in hurr, but you certainly aren't alone in the American love of dub. I first heard Woo Boost by Rusko in 2008 and Dubstep has been my favorite electronic music since. Much love for this documentary and to all those keeping the art alive. All music is music to someone. I won't knock anyone's tastes, but it's a dear place I have in my musical heart for dubstep and resulting subgenres. Many of us, much like any newly emerging music genre, hope it never gets "tainted" by mainstream artists like Britney Spears, Ke$ha, Pitbull, etc. Music is not proprietary. If people are getting offended that something they love so much is getting such widespread use then I'm not sure why you spend the time to care as opposed to just LISTEN TO MORE GOOD DUBSTEP, whatever good is to you - subjectively. Whatever floats your boat. Whatever steps up your dub. I can't wait to hit some of the UK clubs for some dirty dub my next trip across the pond though. The feeling of sharing the elation of a heavy dubstep drop with a complete stranger is unparalleled. ALLMYWUBS.

I'm not American. I am British. And I've been into it since 2007 which is after it originated but was still how it started. It seems that nowadays all people are looking for is the drop followed by something that is meant to be the heaviest tune out there. But if you listen to people like Digital Mystikz (Mala and Coki) that's my idea of dubstep.

Colin Manson Saw Mala (and the Hyperdub crew) last year at the Elevate festival in Graz/Austria and it was the best dubstep show I have ever seen. I can only compare it to Modestep, Skrillex, Doctor P (Brostep) and I have to say I like the original sound way more. The vibes and everything are amazing. Sadly there aren't any Dubstep partys at my city. Missed Benga and Skream back in 2008 and sadly, Rusko cancelled his show at the Urban Art Forms 2014.

OrionSpeakz In the past months since this, I have learned it is very much not dead. It's just harder to find nowadays. All the good shit like the old stuff is now underground or under weird genres that don't seem to associate themselves with dubstep for some reason. Either way, I have found a lot that I like now and pretty satisfied. I guess it just takes effort, time, luck, and good searching.

I used to go into big apple and buy my garage vinyls, wicked little shop. Can't believe it's gone, was so influential on the garage scene as well. See benga in there a couple times, hatcha would serve me and even tried chatting up my mrs once lol! Skream grew up on my estate and went my school too, knew he was a dj but didn't know he was big till few years ago. Good ol days

In 1976 heavy rock'n'roll got commercial, but still there are a sh*tload of different genres I didn't even knew existed today. In 1999 hardcore/gabber went all about the money, it declined. From it hardstyle and jumpstyle formed. Hardcore got softer, but is still around even today 15 years later. So in a nutshell: As long as musicians produce dubstep, it'll be around.

Bass culture is an entirely separate entity than most EDM. You can keep your PLUR and candi or whatever bracelets. Don't get me wrong, I love most genres of EDM, dubstep is about just grooving to the vibe of whatever the beat happens to be. "Skanking" as it's called. Anywhere from Benga, to Reso, to Phrenik, to even dare I say Skrillex. That's why dubstep always gets its own stage is because it's meant to be different.

I think we can all agree on that. I mean people like skrillex still put a lot of time and effort into their tracks, it's just a shame that it's tainted the dubstep scene as people think this style is what dubstep is. I miss the minimal, dub sounds, I have a dark dubstep mix on this channel that is more old school!

he still takes the genre & change its meaning to all these hipsters & mainstream ppl. I asked someones fav producer & 90% of the time it's skrillex or a respectable producer that sticks to the actual genre & the people that say more oldschool type artist are the ones that have been around. I'm disappointed what ppl are doing to the genre it's not even dubstep now it's more electro glitch pop not dubstep.

Though it was in 2010 I started listening to Dubstep I didn't just listen to more of the mainstream stuff I went backwards in dubstep because I liked the feel of the genre but the oldschool style was more suiting. I mean yeah I listened to Excision, Downlink, & Datsik first knowing they were pretty much out there but they kept it real unlike Skrillex with this choppy glitch po electro shit considered to be dubstep. Like calling his music dubstep though there is talent & some good songs

What i meant from my first comment, is dubstep that went americanized thanks to skrillex, and others became commercialized, and soo bad to were you hear it everywhere, worst when you hear it on comercials, thats when you know somethings wrong. Basicly saying what they said in the video. Dubstep is geting big, and soon the ignorant will think all edm is dubstep, just like they used to think it was all techno. Dont get me wrong i like chilled dubstep its beutifuly remixed music.

bro step will die out eventually, it's basically heavy metal music for people who want to do mosh pits and only care about a massive drop. It has nothing to do with the soulful stuff where it all started, with slow beats, deep basslines. While bro step is blowing up around the world, there is still tons of inspiring and creative stuff going on in the underground, especially with house music and techno taking influences from dubstep and DnB with the big bass and tight percussion.

I know the meaning of PLUR and what it encompasses, I was just pointing out it's a completely different type of electronic setting. And I mean yeah some, key word some, of the quality of music is destined to drop in quality when it goes mainstream but just ignore them. There's a plethora of good dubstep/brostep/ambient (chill) artists still available. I've been doing promo in DFW for almost three years now and it just keeps getting better IMO. It's what you make of it.
