The Rise Of Hurrem #76 - Hurrem's Son Will Be Hunchbacked "WILL HE ALWAYS SUFFER?"

At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

I never realized what he said until now “ myou should get along with me for the sake of you and your kids.” It sounds like he’s saying that because he’s the oldest he’ll become sultan and will make decisions about their lives. Which is a little hypocritical because he never wanted to hurt his siblings.

He didn't mean a word of it- he would have gladly died for Maryam and his brothers. Aunt Sasha can test the patience of Mother Teresa. Had Hurrem been his mother poor Mustafa would have been alive and would have taken the throne.

3:37 is the start of the conversations that Hürrem has with Mustafa where you could argue that both are equally right. It's one of the better narrative conventions of the show, to be honest, since I think it reflects the reality of the situation and dynamics within the Ottoman Empire quite well.

@@tanjaceren984 This take when Hürrem is notably trying to convince Mustafa that he doesn't _have_ to be the threat others are turning him into, negating any reason she'd have to attack him if he only listened (but understandably cannot), is honestly so ironic I have to laugh. Like, this is _not_ the flex you think it is.

What makes this even sadder to me is that, in fact, Cihangir was Hürrem's fifth son rather than her fourth since Abdullah, born between Selim and Bayezid, is believed to have passed from smallpox while still a toddler. It's actually theorized that Cihangir's birth might've been in response to that passing, so I can only think of how terrifying it must've been to learn that, once again, your child's health would be in peril.

Hurrem (the movie-version) is acting very immature and stupid here. She knew the siblings loved each other... dearly. She had the chance to actually make Mustafa an ally and secure a good relationship here, despite of Mahidevran (maybe even, in time influence and change Mustafa's view on some things) but instead of doing the smart thing, she let her monstrous ego and pride get in the way and decided to threaten him and make things worse. The whole situation - in general - would have been half as bad, hadn't it been for the power hungry and cunning women in this series. Basically the women in this were responsible for at least 80% of the desaster and death... while all along everybody seeing themselves as the victim. Sad.
