As a passionate of the history of the eastern bloc armed forces I would like to thank for the upload of this documentary. Interesting to see how the Americans perceived the Soviet Navy at that time - also from this point that we Poles were once allied with the USSR (though this alliance was often strained and uneasy).

There is a lot of hidden propaganda against the USSR. This episode is coming from a country that said "we won't tolerate Comunism in our backyard. The" Backyard" being Sovereign Nations. How hipocrate is that?????? Real Comunism will rise against the capitalism. It's the only way to Human sustainability. Russia will never achieve the Soviet Greatness. Russia, nowadays, is a laughable Mafia-capitalistic experiment

It's probably so, because those films were made for servicemen. I can say that in the Poland of that era there were also materials and films like this about the fleets of NATO. I have docs regarding the western submarines progress in sound dampening and technological trends as they were perceived in the 80's (courtesy of my father -former Polish Navy officer). Almost no propaganda. Servicemen know all too well that accurate information on the background and hyp. enemy capabilities saves lives.

Well, as russian i find this footage very interesting. I mean, i have watched soviet films about Red Fleet, but it always interesting to look on things from the other point of view.

We were shown this movie when I was in SONAR school . When I went to the fleet one of our jobs was to shadow the Moskava shown in the first part of the movie.

I believe she was commissioned in 68. We tagged her in the Med in 70. The only time we broke off was to make a run to the Black Sea.

Moskava had steering problems as did her sister ship Leningrad. Both have been scrapped now.

What, no Kresta's?! Whiskey boats R pretty 💜. No clearly ID'ed Sverdlov's either. Kashin's R actually destroyers, while Kynda's should B rated (overarmed) destroyers as well. The Soviet sub fleet, in the earlier '50s, numbered nearly 500 units, scaring NATO planners Real Good (Hitler started WW2 w/ 57 U-boats, as a way of setting scale).

Good footage and facts, the anti-Soviet slant is sadly congruent with pro fascist sympathy, and shows how principled thought is severely lacking in the western view of WW2 history, and it’s contribution to saving humanity from barbarism.
