Amazing video! You skipped a few things that (in my opinion) should have probably been in the video, like the Cryocharge for Railgunner, the fact that getting more corrupted items increases Void Fiend's base corruption, the glass frog after beating Mythrix the can unlock a portal to the Voidling (though, this is more of an easter egg), and maybe just putting descriptions of items on screen when you can't talk about them with commentary (like what you did with the complaints). Overall though, great video! I hope to see more Risk of Rain content from you.

completely fair, I was trying to be time-conscious and not talk about too many minute details. I was gonna talk about Cryocharge but it messed up the pacing of the montage so I just scrapped it lmao. more item descriptions would have really been a good idea, definitely would have made the video more watchable for people who don't know ROR2 super well. anyway, thanks for the feedback, and glad you enjoyed it ^^

Void Fiend likely didn't get any alternate abilities because it comes pre-built with 4 of them in its corrupted form. Might have been too much for them to try and add extra abilities for him (each of which would have to be a 2-in-1 as well by default most likely). I agree that the lack of unlocks is disappointing. They could have easily made half of the new items immediately show up and the other half require achievements. One problem I have with the void fields is that they're challenging enough and have enough cost now that I almost never do them anymore, and they can still get really boring with enemies not reaching the vents quickly enough sometimes and having to wait a bunch of time on each by default. Personally I think Hopoo is a little TOO enamored with the "stay in the bubble and fight enemies" gameplay concept, they use it on everything and half of the time it's immensely boring (Commencement pillars anyone?).

I thought Voidling was a pretty shitty final boss. He doesn't really put anything to the test outside your patience to camp behind cover and attack him while his cooldowns are off, and with enough patience on almost any build you can come out on top. In Risk of Rain 1, Providence was originally going to be a giant boss fight but was changed to his smaller incarnation because it made the fight feel more personal, and this design philosophy carried over to Mithrix as well. Voidling's design is almost exactly what they sought to avoid, as he doesn't engage the player in any aggressive manner and has no engaging attacks nor speed to really keep you on your toes. Instead, its just "take cover" and pop out and attack when Voidling's cooldowns are off. However, if you datamine a little, it becomes obvious that this wasn't the original version of Voidling's fight. The original fight was much different, requiring the player to attack Voidling's legs in order to get them to retract while Voidling's legs had their own attacks to keep you moving. Ultimately, the fight we got seems like an extremely gimped version of the original concept and while Mithrix does have his flaws, he's certainly better than Voidling in actually being an engaging fight.
@FreddoFilms2 жыл бұрын
never knew about making provi smaller to make the fight feel more equal, that's pretty interesting. that immediately makes me think of the abyss watchers boss from dark souls III - that fight really stood out to me because the watchdogs are more or less player sized, it really sticks out against the over-the-top ridiculousness (in the best way) that plenty of other dark souls bosses have. that being said, I don't think hopoo should box themselves in to having bosses that feel like equals - over the top space monsters have their place in the game too if you ask me. it would be nice to have a clearer story for the DLC though, I'm still not sure as to where the voidling fits into anything as that might give its size some symbolism.

@carloss76552 жыл бұрын
loved the video! I'd like to argue against two minor points you made for no reason other than I'm bored and I strongly disagree with them 1. healing items are NOT detrimental to Void Fiend's gameplay. the only healing item which you do not have control over is the Weeping Fungus, and to a lesser extent the Medkit. All other items you can stop from healing you by simply not shooting. Void Fiend only really needs his corrupted form for a few seconds so he can kill teleporter bosses, otherwise his uncorrupt form is far more consistent. Because of this, healing is purely beneficial as working around it pre-teleporter fight is not hard enough to justify scrapping or skipping items entirely. 2. Egocentrism is one of the best Lunar items. The bombs are extremely powerful on pretty much every survivor. You do have to alter your playstyle though, which is the point of Lunars anyways. The focus of your run will change from item quality to item quantity. red items are not worth farming for on stage 4. time spent at scrappers and printers is wasteful if not absolutely necessary. Lunar cauldrons? out of the question. making your run about collecting as many items as you can lets Egocentrism become an extremely powerful damage item. 360% damage with a 1.0 proc coefficient is NO joke. Being able to constantly scale up your damage regardless of your item RNG is quite literally a game changer. I'd like to hear why you think it's terrible though, as you didn't elaborate on it much

Okay, about egocentrism, it's not a bad item. You just can't be spending 15+ minutes a stage cause all your items will be lost. It does tend to eat your reds a lot but as long as you have a lot of items that should lower the chances of it happening. Also unlike the void items, it can be gotten rid of if you don't like it if you find a lunar pool on any of the stages that can of them, plus that's a huge stat buff and you're bound to get at least a irradiant pearl or two from doing it especially if you've got a lot of ego. Imo it's an almost always take on a lot of characters due to striking down any enemies that get too close to you and having the ability to proc any items you have at the time. A synergy I like with it is the void missiles + transcendence because its like the ego strikes a second time, even better with ICBM. Very fun combo that I recommend trying out on a character like acrid or huntress Edit: forgot to say it but great video by the way!

@Crazykidthree332 жыл бұрын
Totally disagree about Cryocharge. It has two things over Supercharge that make me feel like it's a valid alternative and in a good place. To start with the biggest thing, it's cooldown immediately starts counting down the moment you press the button. Meanwhile, Supercharge's cooldown restarts and stops counting when you go into overheat then starts counting down after the 5 seconds you're left vulnerable at base attack speed. This effectively makes Cryocharge have a significantly lower downtime when compared to Supercharge because it doesn't wait to start counting down at any point and, in fact, you'll already be partway through it's CD by the time you've charged it up and shot it. Secondly, a smaller use case is the fact that it doesn't have the overheat part means you can better utilize the push back you receive from it and Smart Rounds as a mobility option. Both of these skills apply backwards knockback on to yourself when you use them. Supercharge also has this knockback, but the overheat means you can't use the boost from Smart Rounds without significant attack speed upgrades. A minor improvement, but still something Cryocharge has over it. These two points make me actually use Cryocharge over Supercharge. The cooldown especially makes it so that having half the damage as the original isn't so bad since you're getting more shots of it out. Supercharge effectively has a 22 second cool down with 2 seconds of charging up, and 5 seconds in overheat, and it will be longer if you don't immediately shoot the shot by the time it's done charging up. Meanwhile, Cryo effectively has a effective 13 second CD because it starts counting down while in the 2 seconds it takes to charge it up and fire that doesn't lengthen if you decide to wait a little before shooting. You shave 9 whole seconds from the downtime of your special by using Cryo.

oh, right, that makes sense, I must have forgotten to delete that part from the subtitles. maybe I should give it more of a go, then :P I admittedly only really tried it on the first stage a couple of times to get a feel for it (part of why I cut it from the script). I will say though that if it's branded as being a 'cryo' ability, it's main utility should probably revolve around freezing things (not just as a lower damage, lower cooldown alternative.)

I think the voidfiend healing thing doesnt actually matter at all. Like unless you dont find any crit at all then its not gonna be much of an issue even with healing. Even if you do have issues with the healing i dont actually think theres much risk in scrapping it like you said since there is like a lot of printers on each stage, and majority of the time there will at least be one scrapper if not 50. If its a green healing item then yeah its a little less likely you're gonna find a good one but at the same time if its actively hurting you then it would just be more beneficial for you to scrap it. Theres no risk in it if even if you dont find a printer its just better. Also you could just go to newt place with green scrap and get free red. If you get something like rejuv rack then i guess yeah thats not amazing, but again if its actively hurting you then there is no risk in scrapping and turning it into just something that doesnt. I also dont think egocentrism is bad. It does shit tons of damage and like as long as you dont take 3 hours to pick up items its like not actually gonna effect that much.

The only ones like that would really matter that much is lepton daisy(which you should just scrap on anyone tbh) and maaaaayyybe medkit, but medkit doesnt really set you back by that much since corruption comes so fast, and its also very easy to just not get hit in your normal mode in general.
